Chapter 658: Chapter 657: Finally Realizing the Seriousness of the Situation, Hoping It’s Not Too Late to Salvage
Jiang Linyan had always been displeased with the way her grandfather treated Wen Huai with such caution.
Although Wen Huai was a junior, he never displayed the proper attitude expected in front of Old Master Jiang; instead, it seemed like Old Master Jiang was always accommodating him. This had irritated Jiang Linyan for a long time.
“You don’t understand anything, so don’t talk nonsense. Take care of yourself and stop causing trouble. Is the injury on your face because you offended Wen Xin and got beaten up?”
Old Master Jiang looked at Jiang Linyan warily; he was genuinely worried that Jiang Linyan would do something foolish again. After she had returned from the Mu family’s last time, Old Master Jiang had warned her not to provoke Wen Xin, but she seemed to have completely ignored his advice.
“Grandfather, how can you be so biased against your own granddaughter? What does she count for, then!”
“I’ve told you to shut up, if you don’t want the Jiang family to really be over. Keep quiet, or the Jiang family might indeed be destroyed by the hands of you sisters!”
Old Master Jiang didn’t want to explain anything to Jiang Linyan. He snorted coldly, turned around, and walked toward the exterior, speaking coldly to the butler at the door of the ward.
“Arrange for someone to watch them closely; don’t let them go anywhere without permission, and make sure they properly recuperate here.”
After finishing, Old Master Jiang left the ward, annoyed. He had initially planned to check on his health, but now he had no intention of doing so; all he could think about was how he could appease Wen Xin’s anger.
Back in the car, the butler had already arranged everything, positioning people outside the hospital to prevent Jiang Linyan and her mother and sister from causing further trouble.
“Master, I’ve taken care of the young mistress’s matters. About Miss Wen… What do you plan to do?”
The butler had already overheared all the conversations in the ward. Upon realizing this matter involved Wen Xin, his first reaction was shock. The young mistress and the second young mistress managed to provoke someone not even their master could afford to offend.
“What to do? What can be done? The last time at the Mu family, that girl’s attitude was already crystal clear; she’s nothing like Wen Huai in nobility, and I can’t simply smooth things over by invoking the friendship with her parents!”
“That girl is too hard to control. I heard she went to Independent State a few days ago and even had a falling out with old fox Wen. Do you think he would grant me any face?”
Old Master Jiang leaned back in the car with his eyes closed and spoke in a slow tone.
“I’ve always thought Little Yao of the Mu family wasn’t easy to provoke, and now there’s another girl, and the two of them are joining forces. It seems like the Mu family will truly rule Beijing in the future!”
“Then, master, are we just going to let Miss Wen continue like this?”
The butler looked at Old Master Jiang with a worried expression. He had previously regarded the warnings transferred by those men in black as a joke, but now it seemed it was no joke at all; Miss Wen had the capability.
“That girl, I don’t really understand her personality, but from her way of handling things, she indeed isn’t someone easy to provoke.”
Old Master Jiang hadn’t encountered such a wilful young lady in a long time. Honestly, he didn’t know how to handle this situation now; the only option might be to go through Mu Chengxi.
Even though Mu Chengxi’s personality wasn’t easy to provoke either, he was likely more considerate than a young and impetuous girl, perhaps leaving some room for negotiation.
“Have someone inquire about Mu Chengxi’s current whereabouts, and if they can’t find him, go directly to the Mu family’s old mansion. Perhaps the Old Madam can put in a good word.”
“Yes, sir. I will make the arrangements now,” Housekeeper Jiang stepped out of the car and made a phone call, hoping to locate Mu Chengxi within half an hour.
An hour later, Housekeeper Jiang had not found any trace of Mu Chengxi. Eventually, Old Master Jiang could no longer wait. He lowered the car window and coldly said to the housekeeper standing outside, “Come in, it seems we won’t find him, just go directly to the Jiang family’s old mansion and see Old Madam Mu…”
Initially, Old Master Jiang had not wanted to compromise with the Mu family over this matter, but now, it seemed he had no choice but to submit to them. The only way to resolve this issue was through the Mu family.
Old Master Jiang’s appearance at the gate of the Mu family’s old mansion took the butler by surprise. He was momentarily at a loss, unsure whether to inform Old Madam Mu or to invite Old Master Jiang inside first.
As he hesitated at the gate, the butler saw Mu Bei alight from the car and instantly had an idea. He immediately waved at Mu Bei.
“Mu Bei, quickly go to Master Xi’s courtyard and invite Master Xi. Tell him Old Master Jiang has come to visit.” Having said this, the butler approached Old Master Jiang’s car, respectfully opened the door for him, and, along with Housekeeper Jiang, helped Old Master Jiang out of the car.
Old Master Jiang had heard the butler instructing Mu Bei from the car. It seemed his visit to the old mansion was indeed timely.
“Is Young Master Chengxi at the Mu family’s old mansion today?” Old Master Jiang asked the butler tentatively.
“Yes, Young Master Chengxi has been at the old mansion for the past few days. He went out for a while and came back a bit injured, so he’s been resting at home, not bothering with the outside world’s chaos.”
Being intelligent enough to serve as a housekeeper in a major family, the butler had guessed Old Master Jiang’s purpose of visit upon his arrival. Thus, he directly revealed what Old Master Jiang intended to ask.
This saved Old Master Jiang the trouble of having to probe further.
Indeed, the butler’s response was too quick, leaving Old Master Jiang momentarily speechless. His intended questions were stuck in his throat, unsaid, and he quietly followed the butler into the Mu family’s old mansion.
Mu Bei hurriedly entered Mu Chengxi’s courtyard. At that moment, Wen Xin was lying on a rocking chair under a wisteria tree, holding an ancient book in her hands, occasionally opening her mouth, waiting for Mu Chengxi to feed her watermelon.
“Master Xi, Miss Wen, the housekeeper said Old Master Jiang has arrived and asked me to invite you to the front hall.”
Mu Bei, observing the harmonious scene, felt reluctant to disturb it. The sight was simply too picturesque.
“Old Master Jiang? Why would he come here?”
Mu Chengxi looked somewhat surprised at Wen Xin, who continued to read her medical book expressionlessly as if she was not surprised at all by Old Master Jiang’s appearance.
“What else could it be? Of course, he hopes Master Xi could plead with the Jiang family, ask your girlfriend to show mercy, spare the Jiang family, and agree to whatever terms he is willing to accept.”
Wen Xin lay lazily in the rocking chair, her slender fingers gently pinched a page of the ancient book, slowly turning the page with a movement that looked both comfortable and nonchalant.
