0035 – Athena Met Another Players

0035 – Athena Met Another Players

Athena Ravencroft was surprised in her heart, but her face remained as steady as a mountain.

She cautiously observed the delicious food in front of her, making sure that both the food and wine were genuine and not poisoned before daring to take a careful bite.

Fortunately, only the people were fake, at least the food was real.

Setting down the beer in her hand, she pushed it back towards the female mercenary.

"Wrong, it's not 681."

The swordsman and the young wizard were impressed by the female mercenary's ability to answer the question, but then they heard Athena's answer.

"Tch." She had just made up a number on the spot and hadn't expected to be found out.

The female mercenary picked up the beer Athena had pushed back and gulped it down.

Athena grinned at her, knowing full well that without the system's kill confirmation, she couldn't possibly know how many monsters they had killed at the time.

But she didn't tell the truth either; the number 468 was also just something she had randomly made up.

Tearing a roasted chicken leg from a whole chicken and putting it into her mouth, the crispy skin and tender meat released a burst of juice, leaving a lingering taste.

No matter what the others did behind her, Athena paid no attention, focusing solely on enjoying the food.

She tore off another lobster and popped it into her mouth, calling the young wizard over.

Under the pretext of punishing him for teasing superiors, she ordered him to do many unreasonable things.

Unexpectedly, all three of them wore expressions as if they had anticipated she wouldn't let them off easily. But Athena wasn't naive enough for that. She observed for a long time and still didn't find anything special about the young wizard.

If the commander could be a living person among a group of skeletons, it might be due to the absolute pressure from the superior and the hidden terrifying power.

So what about this seemingly dumb and clumsy wizard?

Called Max Ryder, his name wasn't anything special either.

But there was another problem at hand: Where was "Galore"? Although the food here was delicious, she hadn't forgotten that she had come here to complete the system's urgent task.

And now that the protagonist was missing, her mission couldn't progress.

To witness its demise.

Athena had thought the system wanted her to witness the demise of "Galore", then upon learning that this might be a dead city, she had a different speculation about this witness.

A soldier who looked like a communication officer hurriedly entered the room and found the commander who was drinking heartily.

He whispered something to the commander, who then stood up and walked outside.

"What's going on?" the young wizard asked.

He wasn't the only one wondering; Athena wanted to know too.

Soon they found out because the commander brought two strangers inside.

Yes, two living people, a man and a woman.

The man was dressed entirely in black, his hair covering his eyes. The woman wore a large floral coat and had her hair tied up in a high ponytail.

Athena calmly took another bite of the roasted chicken, trying to suppress the turmoil in her heart.

These two people who came seemed out of place compared to everyone else; they were wearing winter clothes from Blue Star, had no golden eyes, and had typical Asian features.

Players.

They were players other than Athena.

When the young wizard looked at her, she deliberately showed some curiosity towards the two.

"Wow, captain, where are they from?" the young wizard asked curiously.

"I don't know," Athena casually replied.

Her acting skills were terrible; aside from her words sounding curious, there was no hint of curiosity. How hadn't she noticed this before?

The innocence in his eyes didn't match that of a sixteen-year-old, it even resembled that of a three-year-old child.

The commander soon provided an answer, instructing everyone to stop what they were doing and focus their attention.

"These are people from the Third World. Let them introduce themselves."

The girl seemed like she didn't want any trouble, "Hello, everyone, I'm 001, and I come from the Third World."

"Hello, dear friends, how are you? This is my first time seeing a world like this. It's really beautiful here. Me? Are you talking about me? If you want to call me, you can just call me 'Madman'."

"Hehehe."

Athena's face remained cold; whether he was crazy or not, he was quite eccentric, and the title was obviously made up on the spot.

The girl clearly mouthed "I'm a player" but what they heard was "I come from the Third World". This might also be why the people here referred to players as people from the Third World.

Previously, she had disguised herself by using an extra world stone. If she hadn't used it, she might have been just like them.

She, together with these two individuals, might have altogether deployed three players to Sun City.

The top-ranked players in their respective regions.

Unless necessary, she doesn't plan to expose her identity. Whether they are friend or foe, as players, remains unknown.

It's rather the attitude of the commanders and others that's intriguing. They seem accustomed to the idea of players being transported here, as if it's just the way things should be.

The victory banquet lasted quite long, during which Athena sampled various delicacies.

It wasn't until around 1 a.m. when the celebration ended. Apart from some soldiers on night duty, the rest returned to their accommodations.

Their "accommodations" were nothing more than ruins next to the city wall, providing barely enough shelter from the elements, with a spot to sleep.

Athena's assault squad leaders were among those left behind, along with the two players. The commander looked at the two players, indicating they should choose which team to join.

The girl looked around and found only Athena as a female team leader, so she chose to join Athena's team. The boy next to her agonizingly pulled out a handful of hair, then ultimately followed suit and joined Athena's team.

The commander didn't say anything about both of them joining the same team. "Familiarize them with everything," he instructed Athena before dismissing everyone.

As people dispersed, 002 approached.

"What tasks will you assign us? Will it be monster killing, or something else?"

"Why are the night and day separated here?"

"Do you know a monster called Garole?"

002 asked many questions, but Athena had no intention of answering, because she didn't have the answers either. Indeed, these two were here for the system task related to Garole, but so far, everything remained peaceful.

If they stayed here until noon tomorrow, would the monsters in their shelter area still respawn? However, this string of questions did give Athena some ideas. She led the two straight to the lodging of the female mercenary they had seen earlier.

Successfully catching her before she could sleep, Athena, leveraging her usual persona and position, said coldly, "These two have quite a few questions. You come and answer them."

001 and 002 were somewhat stunned on the side, not expecting to actually gather intelligence so easily.

Athena's current identity asking such questions that everyone takes for granted was suspicious. Normally, it would be very difficult for outsiders to obtain intelligence from this world.

But Athena had chosen a different path.
