Ch: 152 [Devil Bat out of retirement]
Ch: 152 [Devil Bat out of retirement]
[Wayne Tower] [1:00 AM]
"Master Thomas, don't you think it's better for Miss. Elana and her team to guard tonight's shipments? You are getting to the age where it would not be wise to do dangerous things," Alfred asked after noticing Thomas wearing his new nanotech bat suit after years of retirement. Now that Bruce is on another mission, he finally found an excuse to cut loose from his daily boring job at the office. He wants to do something fun with the new gadgets Bruce developed.
"What are you talking about Alfred?" Thomas looked at the old butler with a happy grin as if he was finally where he belonged. "Don't you always say, age is just a number? Besides, in this nano suit, what could possibly go wrong? And as you know, tonight's shipment contains a very special tech for Project Ocean View."
Project Ocean View was a plan in which a bunch of underwater facilities were planned to be made using newly created metal that cannot rust, so these structures would be there for ages and the reinforced glass windows would provide a clear look into the wonders of the ocean. For now, they plan to make three underwater facilities. One for marine biologists and other scientists, then a touristy facility so that normal people could be able to explore the great ocean in the best and safest manner possible, and finally, an underwater restaurant.
Tonight's shipments contain those new metal and reinforced glasses, so security must be tight. And no better way than having the legendary Devilbat there to guard the goods.
"Very well then, be safe," Alfred slightly shook his head. Thomas has always been that same guy since childhood. Once the thought of a particular activity crossed his head, no matter who or what's trying to deter him, it would not work. So, the old man's suggestion fell on deaf ears.
"Don't worry, Alfred. And don't tell Martha I am doing this, please," Thomas said as he turned his nano suit into a regular suit before leaving.
"When have I told her about your nighttime activities, Master Thomas?"
"Hehe, thanks, Al. Then, see you tonight," Thomas bid his farewell to Alfred while taking the car keys and driving to the Wayne Enterprise's warehouse.
The materials will be transported to the harbor base, and the project will start within the next three months. So, this time he has to protect it better because he can't have some small fry interfering with this project and delay it for months, if not years. This was his passion project.
By the time Thomas arrived at the warehouse, Elana and her team were already there, overseeing the loading of goods in the truck, 'Perfect,' he internally clasped his hands. 'Things are going smoothly.'
He walked up to Elana, "How many left?"
"Just six more to go."
"That fast?"
"Yeah, I guess we have our new toys to thank," Elana pointed at the human-controlled bots, carrying large pieces of metal blocks with the ease of 100 people, as if they were nothing but wooden sticks, showing that they were not at all fragile.
Soon, the loading was done and the trucks left the facility. The guards were going through reinforced SUVs, surrounding the six trucks. Elana was in the front truck while Thomas took the rear.
Things went smoothly with no hindrances until they got halfway through their journey when they heard a series of gunshots ahead and several of their cars were struck by RPGs. However, little did the attackers know that those cars were made using the same materials as the Batmobile. So, explosives like that, though effective against other vehicles, will not put a single dent in it.
Nevertheless, the attack got Thomas in the right mood, and he instantly activated the bat-suit mode. Then he opened the door and went on the truck's roof, "Don't stop. Keep going. I'll take care of these kiddos." He scanned the route.
The enemies were in six minivans with machine guns attached to the roof. According to his scanner, there were a total of fifteen enemies inside the vehicles. Two in each and seven more were in one of them.
"Awww, and I thought, this day would be like any other," Thomas grinned under the mask. He has no idea who these guys are, but they attacked his stuff and interrupted his schedule. "And here I thought we got rid of all criminals from Gotham. Seesh! Every day someone new pops up."
The trucks and SUVs didn't stop as they kept moving toward their destination.
Those guys from the minivans open-fired. The machine guns raged non-stop, not aiming mostly at the tires, but sadly the energy shield Bruce created using the Kryptonian ship parts was protecting all of them.
'Bruce made something interesting. But the charge is dropping too fast,' Thomas analyzed the bullets, 'Custom-made bullets, specially made to pierce through armors. Not exactly your regular armor-piercing ammo, but these are three times deadlier and stronger compared to the usual ones."
Noticing Batman on top of the truck, those thugs shifted their attention to him. They rained down an endless storm of bullets at Thomas, but all the bullets bounced off his armor. He jumped up from the truck and flew toward the first minivan at the rear of the convoy. With a forceful landing, he struck the rooftop causing the minivan to slide to the side due to the momentum of his landing.
Then, the criminal's fate was sealed.
Thomas flew up in the sky and launched a mini-missile at the second van.
[Booom!] In just a flash, the missile hit the van, exploded, and sent the entire vehicle and thugs flying up in the air before the wreck fell down to the ground, causing the four remaining van drivers to panic. They tried to run away from the scene by splitting up.
"Elana, send a team behind and capture the alive ones. I'll take care of the rest of these chumps. You focus on getting the shipment to the base," He called Elana and said the order in an attempt to end the fight quickly and get over to the harbor.
The four mini-vans took four different routes, however, only if they were as fast as his suit.
He zoomed in on the third car going toward the reformed slums.
Thomas manipulated his nanites to form an EMP grenade and threw it at one of the fleeing vehicles. Electricity busted out of the grenade and enveloped the vehicle, soon the car came to a stop as if the battery had just run out of power. He swooped in, tore the doors with ease, and grabbed the driver, pulling him out of his seat, followed by a hard punch.
"Sleep for now," He said with a smirk.
"Get him!" The remaining thugs got out and began to shoot at Thomas. The bullets bounced off his armor as usual.
"You gotta do better than that," Thomas rushed in, and with a few punches and kicks, two men fell down. Their guns shattered to pieces, followed by some of their bones breaking too. He took out electric cuffs and handcuffed their hands to their backs.
The last thing he needed was to chase more people, so the electric shock was for disabling their movements and preventing any trouble.
Thomas flew up in the sky. His visor pointed at the fourth and fifth vans. It would seem that they regrouped together and are going toward an abandoned private airport that used to belong to Lex Corps. He flew toward them while keeping an eye on the sixth van which was going outside the city to the forest region.
After arriving at the airport, he noticed the vans were parked near the entrance as the six thugs were running inside. He noticed that there were reinforcements inside the airport. His scanner picked up another ten life signs. Upon further scanning, he became certain that there were no civilians inside the airport.
'This must be their meeting point,' Thomas thought. 'Well, as much as I would have liked to play with them...' He activated his homing mini-missiles, 'I gotta another car to catch.' He locked on to the sixteen thugs and launched the missiles. The nanites on his shoulders shifted, revealing the mini-missiles within. They flew out silently without making a sound.
Zooooooosh.... Zooooooosh...
Thomas watched as the missiles took down all the sixteen thugs together, causing multiple mini-explosions. Then, he flew up and chased the sixth car which went to an old, deserted place that used to be a quarry.
