Chapter 14: Beaten Up
Chapter 14: Beaten Up
After Lu Li left, Pei Xin stood there dumbfounded. She couldn't help but tremble.
She had forgotten. Yes, today was Ling Xue's birthday.
Similarly, today was also her birthday.
For the past five years, she had forgotten the day of her own birthday.
During her time in prison, she often thought that if she had died on the day she was born, many things would not have happened and she would not have suffered so much pain.
Unfortunately, those were just wishful dreams that would never come true. There were no ifs in this world.
Pei Xin settled Ling Lin down and the nanny brought her the clothes that Lu Li had prepared for her. It was a black dress that had thin straps to hold it together,
She went into the bathroom and scrubbed every part of her body. She picked up the dress and carefully observed it. It had been five years. She hadn't worn a dress for five years. She was certain that she was no longer qualified to wear such a quality dress.
She unconsciously touched the scars on her arms and legs, then put the dress back into the box and put on her own clothes.
Pei Xin walked out of the bathroom and handed the leftover snacks from yesterday to Ling Lin. She told him to settle down while eating in case he got hungry later. She advised him that if he were to encounter a bad person, he must remember not to fight head-on and to learn to endure the hardship. Then, she walked out of the house, turning her head back three times with each step.
She tried her best to stand further away from the room. She knew that Lu Li wouldn't say anything nice when he came. She didn't want her child to hear those dirty words again.
Soon, Lu Li appeared in front of her. He looked at Pei Xin — who was still wearing a white shirt and tattered jeans — with disgust. He couldn't help but feel annoyed. "Where are the clothes I asked the nanny to send you?"
Lu Li had obviously dressed up today. He was donned in a suit that accentuated his fit figure.
However, in Pei Xin's eyes, it didn't cause any ripples. The heart that used to beat wildly because of him was eerily silent.
Pei Xin lowered her head and didn't look at him. She stammered, "I'm not used to wearing something that flashy."
She knew that she was going to face a new round of insults and abuse once she was there. What did it matter what she wore? No one would care if she was dressed well.
Sure enough, Lu Li just shrugged and didn't force her to change. He went straight to the car.
Pei Xin walked over carefully and subconsciously reached out to the passenger seat. However, she suddenly remembered something and retracted her hand. She opened the back door and hopped in without saying a word.
Lu Li saw all of Pei Xin's actions and felt a little shaken up.
Once upon a time, his front passenger seat was exclusively for Pei Xin. Even his boys were not allowed to sit there, but now everything was different.
Lu Li shook his head and pushed the thought out of his mind. He then stepped on the accelerator and drove the car. It didn't take long for them to stop at the entrance of the Platinum Crystal Hotel.
The moment the car stopped, Pei Xin opened the door and got out. It was too suffocating to stay in the same car as Lu Li.
Lu Li got out of the car and looked at Pei Xin, who had her back to him. In the end, he mustered up the words to ask, "Pei Xin, have you ever regretted it in the past five years?"
Pei Xin stopped in her tracks when he said that. Then she heard Lu Li continue, "If you kept yourself clean back then, I would never have left you. Even if the Pei Family pressured me to the ends of the world, I would have done everything in my power to protect you."
With what was just shared, Pei Xin somehow felt like laughing for some reason.
Lu Li wasn't there when she was going through the hardest time of her life when her identity was exposed. He wasn't there when she was drunk and violated. He never believed her when she tried her best to explain her truth to him. What right did he have to ask her if she regretted everything that was done?
Pei Xin turned around and stared into Lu Li's eyes as she said, "Lu Li, I don't owe you anything. The only regret I had was loving you."
Those words seem to have sawed through Lu Li's heart, as if he was being provoked. He reached out and grabbed Pei Xin's wrist. "You don't owe me anything. You fooled around with someone and even gave birth to a b*stard child. I became the laughing stock in Beijing overnight!"
Pei Xin was in pain and tried to pull her hand away, but it was in vain. She desperately fought back. "You deserve to be laughed at. My son is not a b*stard. I won't let you call him a b*stard!"
Lu Li's vision turned red as he slapped Pei Xin's face. "You're a wh*re that slept around with different men and your son will be a b*stard for the rest of his life. That will be a fact you have to live with for the rest of your life."
