Chapter 48 Drink Till You Puke!
"Y-you, you're alive?!"
"GASP!"
They stood next to a tombstone. It read ⎧ᴿᴵᴾ⎫: "Here lies an innocent soul, claimed far too soon by this cruel world." Talk about touching… or not!
"RUUNNNN! Jack screamed as he rushed past them, almost coughing his lungs off. There was so much rock dust!
F-Rank Adventurer Joe's body instantly reacted… ZOOM! He ran for his freaking life! What else was a weakling like him supposed to do?!
He quickly caught up to Jack and almost got a heart attack as he heard him.
"Damn it all! How can a Mountain be THAT feeble?!" Jack was cursing the cheapskate Fate God as he ran. Had it been made of papier-mâché or something?!
"W-what happened?! How can a Mountain just fall like that?! It doesn't make any sense! What the in the name of Dawn happened here?!"
"I conquered the Fate Trial, that's all" Jack shrugged.
Not only was this baby speaking, but he was so nonchalant about it all… how?! Surviving the Fate Trial was already near impossible… but demolishing it?! WTF?!
But he wasn't the only one with questions.
"You, who are you? Speak, NOW!" The Sparkling Blade blocked their way. Only now did she realize how foolish she had been… Everything had been this baby's doing!
He turned incredibly stern.
"Have you ever heard of the Fate Envoys?"
All trace of frivolity left his eyes as he forced himself to appear as heroic as possible. "Listen, and listen well. I'm one of the few Fate Warriors trying to save this world!"
A savior, really? Wasn't this a little too convenient? What if he was actually a filthy terrorist?! Zoe's clear eyes became clouded with wariness. Yet, he wasn't done.
"Zoe, right? We gotta go before D.L. arrives! They'll try to steal the Fate Legacy I obtained for sure! I'll explain everything later, just not now!—" He looked so sincere.
"F-fine! But don't even think about getting out of it! Meet in Dawn." She spat out, disappearing in a flash and leaving a relieved duo behind.
"It's just you and me, eh? C'mon, let's go!" Jack took the lead.
Their new party left hurriedly. But just as they were almost out, they suddenly noticed blurry silhouettes coming their way. This was BAD!
Anyone that saw them leaving would instantly ID them!
After all, it didn't take a genius to know people leaving a crime scene in a rush were likely guilty! Fuck, if only they had Zoe's speed! Avoiding them was already impossible...
Jack solemnly turned to Joe, his gaze as steady as steel.
"Our survival will depend on you!"
"W-what?! Me?!"
"YES!"
Jack pointed at the man's "water" (alcohol) gourd. It was time for him to showcase his extraordinary talent. At this moment, they needed a DRUNKARD!
"Drink, drink till you can't stand! Drink till no one thinks of you as a culprit. Drink till you ain't a reliable witness anymore. Drink till you become insignificant! Drink till you puke!"
"…"
What kind of request was this?! Never had Joe felt so humiliated! Yet, it was abundantly clear that Jack was dead serious about this! He even gave him a thumbs-up: "You got this!"
Thus soon appeared the strangest scene amidst the stone dust. One full-fledged adult was chugging vodka from his "water" pouch while a nearby baby encouraged him.
"Chug! Chug! Chug!"
Anyone seeing this would have doubted their sanity; it was a plan so stupid that it border-lined genius! After all, who would expect it?!
Soon, a Drunkard could be seen struggling to put one foot before the other as he left the Collapsed Mountain… while carrying a baby!
He looked so silly and out of place that everyone in their path couldn't help but gasp in shock. "Joe, you're Joe, right? What are you doing here?!" They'd all ask.
"Burp! M-me?! Mission… yes. MISSION! I came here for a mission… I think? But before I could complete it… BAM! The mountain went BOOM, then CRASH, and RUMBLE!"
Even as he recounted his "true" experience, he'd take swings of vodka as he kept complaining. "W-what am I supposed to do now?! No Mountain, no mission, no money!"
Suddenly he started sobbing! "Nooo money!" He was the perfect sobbing drunk! No matter what anyone asked him, they'd only receive sobs and a whiff of alcoholic breath.
"Tch— He's useless! We're wasting our time!" Seeing the state he was in, many grumbled as they hurriedly left. They wouldn't care about the ramblings of a drunk!
A baffled Joe watched them leave, shellshocked.
"I-it worked?! Wasn't this a little too easy?!"
"Eh, don't jinx us!"
Joe didn't know what "Jinx" meant, but he knew one thing for sure: he'd better freaking listen to that Magical Baby! After all, they'd both be in trouble if caught!
Thus it didn't take long for them to reach back Dawn City. But as soon as they arrived, they were instantly ambushed by Sparkling Blade Zoe.
She gestured for them to follow into a nearby alley, her meaning evident: 'run, and you're dead!' A shivering Joe and a composed Jack soon faced her.
"You said you're a Fate Envoy, right? Prove it!"
She had a savage light in her eyes. Were he to try and fool her, she'd end him right there and then. Without waiting, she threw a small device his way.
It looked exactly like a silver coin... No, wait! The head and tail drawings on it seemed to be alive?! The inscriptions appeared to be swimming in the metal.
"Since you're a Fate Envoy, you should know what it is, right?" She gave him a cunning smile; she was unto him!
Jack could already hear an alarm Ghost Ringing in his head.
"Kid, this is a Fate relic! Only Fate power can activate it. Without the Fate God's direct blessing, it will be bloody impossible! We're so goddamn screwed!"
The Old Ghost was already trying to come up with survival plans. At this moment, he regretted so much having lost his physical body. His current self was far too weak!
But just as he was about to make a move…
"That's it? Sure!" Jack chuckled as he pressed his hand against the coin. Then a second later, the thing started glowing red on both sides as if red-hot iron!
"W-what?! You were telling the truth?!" Zoe exclaimed, shocked.
Didn't this mean that D.L. was really after his life?! Who was he actually to have been Chosen by the Fate god at such a young age?! Little had she realized it shone, but the wrong color.
Jack had made the thing react… but not for the reason she believed! No, it was all because of an ability he had received after destroying the Fate Temple!

He had become the Evil Version of a Fate Envoy! Luckily, Zoe didn't see through him at all and misunderstood everything!
"Sorry, I'm so sorry. I should have believed you in the first place!" She was already apologizing, feeling bad about how suspicious she had been.
"No worries, take care. I have things to do." Jack casually dismissed the offense, appearing as forgiving as a saint. But inwardly, he was already boiling with excitement!
He couldn't wait to test his newfound Fate powers…
