Chapter 124: Dont Want to Fall Asleep

Chapter 124: Don't Want to Fall Asleep

The husband, a sleazy looking man gave tearful speeches. Yun Qian Meng's family was missing from the scene. Yun Sui Bo was dead. His wife had left the country to visit her son who was studying abroad. Not one person who knew her was there except this dramatic husband of hers.

He watched the man carefully and wondered what she saw in him. He wasn't successful by any means. He could barely grow a business or sustain it. Did she love him?

He moved away from the crowd for some silence. The rest went to eat at the buffet. Something about binge-eating at funerals and bringing peace to the death.

And he heard it.

The husband.

Bragging.

About killing Yun Qian Meng.

He froze in his spot as he heard him speak on the phone with someone, calling them terms of endearment, talking about a child.

Mo Qingchen followed Bai Ye Qing for the next few days, abandoning his work, obsessed with finding out the truth. And he found every little detail out.

The contract between Yun Sui Bo and Bai Ye Qing stating that their companies would help each other out. That Yun Sui Bo would take control of Venus when Yun Qian Meng gave birth. And then how this scumbag had killed so many people to grab whatever he could get.

He had drugged Yun Qian Meng so that her health depleted. She was depressed and unable to carry children. She was miserable.

Yun Qian Meng was miserable because she cared too much about family and being loved.

He understood his obsession and he distanced himself.

News about an accident killing Yun Qian Meng's step-brother came a few months later. The news spoke about the devastation of a family that died shortly after one another.

Mo Qingchen poured his soul into his work. He worked hours that were not humanly possible. He coded and recoded until everything was perfect.

Years and years passed. He was forty. He barely slept.

He was working, he said as an excuse.

His family rarely saw him.

He never married.

He worked until he couldn't think about anything but work.

He didn't know why guilt gnawed at him.

It was not like he could have done anything.

It was not like he could have saved her from this horrible fate.

He finally finished the project that he had been working on for years. He went home that evening at seven. He was tired.

He wanted to sleep.

So, he fell asleep.

When he woke up next, he was back in time. Everything remained constant, except for time.

A glitch in the matrix? He wondered. But a glitch wouldn't explain how every detail remained the same.

So, he went back to Einstein and Quantum Physics. He thought about String Theory and a small vibration in the fabric of the universe shifting it drastically.

He had somehow traveled to another universe parallel to his own.

He saw an interview with Yun Qian Meng in a financial magazine shortly after. Her answers were powerful and spoke true to her ideals.

It was a shame. It was a shame that a mind this bright would be extinguished.

Before it happened. He wanted to meet her once.

When his secretary brought in the proposal from the planning and accounting team with a proposal to shift their office, he noticed a building close to Yun Qian Meng's headquarters.

"This one," he had said instinctively.

The move happened.

Yun Qian Meng kept climbing to glory.

A few months went by but he never saw her.

One day, finally, his secretary came in with a proposal from his father. Something about going on a news show to battle out something on construction and housing laws.

"You know I don't do these things," he said gruffly, shoving the file away.

"Your father insists you do it."

Mo Qingchen looked up from his work and glared at the obviously pregnant woman. "Get out," he commanded.

"You'll be going against Miss Yun, a shareholder of Yun Corporation. Your father asked me to inform you that this is about family honor."

Mo Qingchen grew silent.

Yun Qian Meng.

He mulled her name over in his mind. His pen twirled between his fingers.

"Are you sure she is coming?" he asked.

The secretary stiffened but nodded. "Yes, I received word from the news station that their side has confirmed."

He nodded and looked back down. "Okay. Make sure to keep my schedule cleared."

There was silence for the longest time.

"Leave," he said after a minute. The secretary scurried away, wondering what the hell was happening. So easily convinced?

And the ball rolled on and on. He wanted to meet her and talk to her, give her a wake-up call. He never expected her response.

She seemed to hate him for no reason.

Another meeting.

Another coincidence.

And then he sought her out.

Sought her out until she was living under the same roof as him.

The only thought he had in the moments before his eyes drooped were these: "I don't want to fall asleep. In this universe, Yun Qian Meng is alive and happy. I don't want to go back. I want to stay right here."

Li Jun finally received the contact details of Bai Ye Qing's lawyer. He was someone by the name of Jiang, meaning that he was probably a maternal cousin of Bai Ye Qing. He worked as an associate lawyer in the top firm in the country.

Li Jun picked up his cell phone and called his senior from the university.

"Senior," he greeted when the other picked up the phone after a couple of rings.

"Li Jun, what a surprise! Why are you calling me this late in the night?" he asked. He sounded excited and happy so Li Jun didn't apologize.

"Oh, it's just a case that I am working on and the name of your firm came up… so I wanted to check with you," he began.

"A case?" the senior responded, confused. "You don't take up small cases and if you are calling me, it should be something complicated. What is the case and who is the lawyer?"
