Chapter 128: Covering Their Losses
Chapter 128: Covering Their Losses
"I object," Bai Ye Qing said immediately. "I will not be covering for their losses!" he swore.
Jiang Hanyu tugged at his cousin's sleeve to make him sit down. The discussion between the three men in the room grew heated until Yun Qian Meng swooped in to save the day.
"How about this? Let's change the last part of the clause that is causing so much problem. I can settle if you promise not to sue Venus, Miss Mo, and I, never demand anything from us again and bear any damages it does to you. I will not ask you to bear the losses incurred by Venus, Miss Mo, and me." She paused. "How does that sound?"
Li Jun was quiet, acting like he was not appeased by this settlement. But in reality, this was the result they had been meaning to get from the beginning.
It was easy to dupe a fresher. The wording made it sound like Bai Ye Qing was winning almost everything, but it also stopped them from creating a fuss later on.
"Agreed." Both the opposing client and lawyer said at the same time.
"Great. I like finishing my work fast. Please wait for fifteen minutes and I will type up the settlement agreement. We can sign directly and get this over with," Li Jun said coldly.
"Excellent," Yun Qian Meng noted. She still had twenty minutes before Mr. Bai arrived, so she didn't have to worry about it for now.
Her phone chimed and she pulled it out. Her eyes lit up as she read through the message.
[Miss Xiong demanded I take my medication. The driver picked me up for the meeting. Feeling better.]
That was it.
[Settlement Agreement being written out.] She informed him.
She suddenly looked at the solitary number on top of the conversation and felt the urge to change his name. She rapidly typed into the phone. Now, the contact name read: Scoundrel Husband
Apt.
The call came in and her eyes widened. The room had been eerily silent until it had rung. All eyes were on her.
Li Jun had a clear view of her screen and raised his brow in question. The name change had brought on more embarrassment within the first five seconds than she had imagined.
Murphy's Law had worked again: whatever could go wrong was going wrong.
"Hey," she said immediately after picking up the call.
"You let that ring for a long time before picking it up," Mo Qingchen grumbled. His voice was still hoarse, and he sounded lethargic. But it was a lot better than last night.
So, he must have listened to her and slept well. She didn't need him to drop unconscious or die from overwork. He looked like the type who forgot everything else and worked himself to the bone.
"Still in a meeting. Why did you call?"
Her eyes moved around the room and she saw the curious and furious expressions. It was easy to figure out who the furious one was. She wondered who Bai Ye Qing thought she was speaking to.
"I finished mine. The deal has been settled and the company incurred no losses, not that you asked or wanted to know." Qian Meng wanted to laugh but her company demanded she didn't react. Mo Qingchen was sulking.
"Do you need anything?" she asked again.
"The lawyer wrote up the prenuptial agreement. I'll have it delivered to you. By when do you think you can send it back?" he asked.
"That was fast," she said softly. He really wanted to get married to her quickly. "Send it to me. I'll go through it and respond within a day or two. Is that okay with you?" It should be.
It was not like he would hover over her shoulder until she handed him the executed copy of the contract.
"Perfect. I'll send it over by the evening. I just want to check it one last time."
Qian Meng heard shuffling in the background and frowned. He had been talking freely about a wedding in front of others. But here she was, in front of her enemy, hiding her biggest trump card.
Should she call herself a fool or a genius for keeping her tricks under wraps?
"Okay. I'll discuss this with you later," she insisted. "Hanging up now," she added softly.
"Hmm," was all he said. She listened to his even breathing for a couple of seconds before pulling the phone away from her ears and cutting the call.
She could see the curiosity on everyone's face.
"Is it done?" she said finally, turning to Li Jun.
"Yes. Li Min went out to get printouts. We'll notarize it after both of you have signed," he responded. He glanced at her cell phone before giving her a hard look.
She pretended not to see it.
They waited for another two minutes before Li Min pushed through the door.
"Here," she said professionally even though she was handing over the papers to her biological brother. If people saw them together, they wouldn't think they were related or on good terms. Outside company time, they were joined at the hip, though.
Strange siblings.
Li Jun looked through it and passed the copy to Bai Ye Qing. Yun Qian Meng took a look through it and signed her name immediately without further thought.
She got exactly what she wanted.
Bai Ye Qing skimmed through the agreement and followed suit in signing. They exchanged papers and that was that.
"I'll notarize these and the executive copies will be handed out. As per the information I gave you yesterday, we thought about making the announcement today. But, because of changed conditions, we will let you know when we make the final announcement." Everyone stood up and shook each other's hand.
Expect for Yun Qian Meng, who refused to breathe the same air as Bai Ye Qing. No one faulted her, either.
"Boss, Mr. Bai is here," Li Min whispered. The room was quiet enough that the words traveled to Bai Ye Qing's ears.
