Dead Man Walking: Living By Day, Dead By Night

Chapter 287: Amazonians

It took Zane a long while to come to terms with everything he had learned. Other than the two new powerful skills he gained. He also had walked away with Tier II undead servant, and a legendary weapon that was capable of killing corporeal and spiritual beings.

In addition to this the weapon could not be blocked by ordinary means. Meaning that it was bound to cut through weapons and armor with ease. There were also new features to the system such as inscriptions, something he was previously not aware of. Nor did he have any real understanding of their nature.

Either way, Zane took some time to fully come to the understanding of his gains before getting out of bed and getting his day started. He honestly had no idea what Elena, and the others were up to. Or for that matter how the Horde Kings were doing in the background.

Regardless, he would continue with his plans to hunt the awakened. And, perhaps even raising a few of them to test out his new skill and its limitations. Because of this, Zane quickly descended from his room and gathered his companions all of which who had stayed on watch for the night.

For the time being Zane wanted to protect this mansion, and because of that he asked Darren, Lawrence, Jett, and Zander to keep an eye on it. Meanwhile, he would go out into the city with Gwen, Eliza, Beatrix, and Evilyn to watch is back.

Evilyn was a great companion to keep with him at all times because she could vanish into thin air, being completely invisible to all living beings, if she so desired. Even lower ranking undead would not see her outright.

One would have to be a horde king to fully gaze upon Evilyn's spectral form, and even then, they would have to be close enough to see her. Because of this, Zane was comfortable with her watching his back at all times.

It was only after he had issued his commands did Zane and the rest of them wander out into the city looking for a fresh new victim to make their newest companion.

---

Zane didn't realize it, hell nobody within the Las Vegas Area really did. But not far south, in between the ruins of Las Vegas, and Phoenix Arizona lie another bunker complex. This was home to the Remnant Chapter whose area of responsibility was the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts.

This remnant bunker was far more isolated than the one up north in Oregon, and far more passive in their means of surveilling the so called corrupted who dwelled on the surface. They sent individual teams of operatives who specialized in reconnaissance out into the desert to keep an eye on the survival communities that were spread across the region.

These operatives blended into the local environment as normal wastelanders. They were not awakened, and because of this they carried firearms with them. Which still proved deadly to any awakened human whose constitution was below the level of 20. Which was the vast majority of them.

If one wanted to kill a superhuman level awakened, they would need something like a 20mm anti material rifle, and to shoot them at a distance where they were unaware that you were even firing at them.

As for someone like Zane, whose attributes were all 25 or above. Even if you hit him with an RPG, he would walk away with his life intact. Such weapons were rapidly becoming obsolete as humanity progressed in power.

Even so, the Remnant clung to technology rather than the newly discovered magic to survive. Advanced their weapons rather than embracing the new world for what it was. Currently, the matter of the Arena being destroyed was being discussed by the higher ups within the Sonoran Chapter of the Remnant.

"As you can see, the sports arena which used to be used by the Raiders football team, and has since been housing a faction of corrupted outlaws by the same name, has completely imploded on itself.

After our scouts surveyed the wreckage, they found that the building was targeted with high yield explosives at its structural weak points. Meaning that whoever destroyed it likely had a proper understanding of the arena's layout. And access to powerful ordnance.

We suspect one of the other major factions is responsible for such as the so called Undaunted within their settlement they refer to as the Jungle. Or more likely the Amazons in settlement which they refer to as Themyscira.

The Amazons are a faction of corrupted outlaws formed by a group of student feminists in the old University of Nevada, Las Vegas. They built their fortress out of their old campus. They seem to have a particular disdain for men, especially now that they have awakened their powers and can fight them on equal fitting.

This is something that would have been impossible if not for the fact that they have consumed blood crystals. Further proving that they are a perversion of the natural order.

Out of all the groups in the area, the Amazons are the only ones who refuse to trade with the other factions. Or at least until their conditions that all men are expelled from the area is met. Naturally, the other Factions consider the Amazons to a be a bunch of harpies. And they largely are left to themselves.

Still, if a man steps foot near the old campus, also known as Themyscira, they will immediately be marked for death by the women in the area. Because of this, most other Factions simply stay away from the old university.

Considering the fact that the Raiders were essentially the exact opposite. A group of men raping, pillaging, enslaving, and murdering everyone they could. It is highly likely that the Amazons were the ones to target them.

Especially since early on, many of the Amazonian outlaws were captured and enslaved by the Raiders. Their grudge was irreconcilable. And it makes the most sense that they would be the ones to attack."

The Governor of the Sonoran Chapter nodded his head in understanding of the situation and was quick to ask about what exactly the plans were to deal with these out-of-control women.

"So… What exactly is our strategy here? The Las Vegas area is one of the more heavily populated regions west of the Rocky. An estimated 50,000 outlaws live in the area. Having seemingly found a way to keep the undead at bay.

If the Amazons are one of the larger and more powerful factions, then they easily have 5,000 or more rabid women who are willing to attack any man in sight? Now that the raiders have been dealt with, they need to be the next faction to go if we wish to retake the region, correct?"

The man in charge of reporting the latest intelligence from the Las Vegas territory was quick to respond to this, affirming that indeed their Marines were ready and willing to put down the awakened outlaws who referred to themselves as "the Amazons."

That is correct. The Colonel assured me that his battalion is on standby just waiting for the order to attack. If you give me permission to do so, I will have our marines assault the Campus in the hour!"

The Governor of the Senoran Chapter was convinced that this was the best course of action and quickly ordered the attack on the old campus of UNLV.

"Very well, permission granted. Let's eliminate these outlaws and restore order to the Las Vegas area!"

With this said, Zane was about to have his second contact with the Remnant forces as he accidentally found himself in a battle between the so called Amazonians and what remained of the former United States Government.
