Dead Man Walking: Living By Day, Dead By Night

Chapter 293: Ambushing the Amazonians

While Dani and Emily were busy working alongside the rest of their former sisters, or what remained of them, to pack up their supplies that had survived the assault in an effort to abandon the Las Vegas area entirely. Zane and the others were lying in wait at the ambush point just outside Victor's territory.

The Domain of Horde King was sacred and unique. It took great caution to avoid them while within the borders of the territory they controlled. And if Zane tried to kill these militant feminists while they licked their wounds within the ruins of their destroyed home.

It would attract way more attention towards himself than he wanted to do so. But once these bitches were outside the boundaries of Victor's control, there would be no way for him to really monitor the situation.

Unless, of course, he had his own agents watching over the Amazonians. But this did not appear to be the case. Because of this, Zane had a strong feeling that if he massacred the caravan outside of Vegas and its outskirts. Then the local Horde King would not find out he was hiding in his domain.

As Zane sat with his stealth mode activated, perched on a rather large red rock in the desert, Gwen popped up behind him and asked him if everything was going according to plan.

"So did our new recruits managed to convince these whores to walk into the trap?"

Because Zane was connected on a spiritual level to his Death Knights, he knew everything they did or said behind his back. And he silently nodded as a result, causing Gwen to break out into excitement.

"This is going to be a bountiful harvest! With so many Death Knights by your side, leading your already powerful Horde. I doubt a single Horde King below the second tier will be able to challenge you!"

Zane did not say a word in response to Gwen's fangirl squealing. Instead he continued to keep an eye in the distance towards the path which Dani and Emily would lead their former comrades down, ultimately to the demise of the entire group.

And sure enough, after several hours of waiting, a large group of awakened humans walked through the desert. Effortlessly carrying their bags on their back, a total weight that would be difficult for an ordinary human woman to carry alone and for such a long distance.

Once Dani and Emily reached the proper ambush point, they stopped in their tracks, causing their former comrades to gaze upon them with confusion. Something they were quick to voice.

"Why are you stopping? We have so much more to go until we find someplace safe to rebuild our community!"

Dani and Emily both looked at the women they still considered being their sisters with looks of pity on their faces as they apologized in advance for what they were about to do.

"We're really sorry about this, but we don't have a choice!"

Zane snapped his fingers, the audible click being overheard. As he and his companions surrounded the group of less than a hundred Amazonians, their weapons remained in their hands as the Amazonians shouted at their sisters who betrayed them.

"You fucking sluts! You dared to lead us into an ambush? Are you fucking stupid? There are dozens of us, and maybe eight of you? Did you really think you would –"

The head of the woman shouting, who was the strongest of the Amazonian warriors immediately rolled off her shoulders. A burst of blood spurting from her neck where her head had been just a moment before.

Gwen had moved so quickly that neither blood of her fresh kill had stained her, nor had anyone other than the other Horde Kings detected the slightest trace of movement from her. She remained standing still from their perspective during the entire attack.

The women broke out into tears and screams as their most respected and powerful warrior died on the spot. All the while Gwen licked the blood off of her scythes with a haunting expression on her otherwise pretty face.

"I really hate annoying bitches who never shut the hell up. Big Brother, are you going to join in the fun?"

Zane simply shook his head, deeming the slaughter of such pests to be well beneath him. This caused Gwen to pout for a moment, before shifting her expression to one of joy as she expressed such a sentiment.

"Well, I guess that means more for me! Come one everyone! It's feeding time!"

The Amazonians tried to muster a defense, but against Tier I horde Kings, and two Tier II Horde Kings, it was useless. Dani and Emily watched as their friends and comrades were torn apart and devoured by the undead in front of them. Undead who were more powerful than anything they had ever seen before in their lives.

And despite this, the more blood that was shed, the more hungry they became. Zane looked at them with a curious glint in his eyes before patting them both on the back and granting them permission to dig in with the rest of his companion.

"Leave the hearts for me, but everything else is all yours… Go, enjoy yourselves, you have both earned it."

As much as the two women who had only recently been resurrected as Death Knights fought the urge to feast upon the flesh of those they once considered to be sisters. In the end, it was too strong for them to resist. And they too began to clean up the mess they had made. Leaving no trace that the Amazonians had gone through this war, or were even butchered at this location.

Once even the blood itself was licked clean from the Earth, Zane raised his hand and issued the command to raise the fallen as Death Knights in his service.

"Unholy Knights of Death, rise again as servants of the Prince!"

Though the corpses had been devoured by the Zane's undead companions. The bodies quickly manifested out of nothingness, revealing all of the women who had just been slain. They were all in shock and terror. As they realized suddenly why Dani and Emily's appearance had changed.

They too now all had pale skin, black hair, and abyssal eyes. And no matter how much they wanted to scream at Zane, or condemn him for murdering them all. They could not do so. Instead, they were forced to kneel before him, and bow their heads in respect as they chanted the oath of servitude that all of Zane's minions owed him.

"What is your command, my Prince? We are but your humble servants!"

Zane gazed upon all the women who had joined his servants. As he suspected, the overwhelming majority of them ranged from level 15-20. While the most powerful of them all was level 21. And just like the other two Death Knights he raised first. Their attributes were the same as their level. Or at least started out this way.

As for Zane, he callously pulled out a heart from his inventory, and ate it in front of his new Death Knights, filling them with a complicated sensation. No doubt it was one of their hearts he was eating, but why did they also have an intense urge and desire to eat it as well?

Their mouths were practically salivated at the prospect of doing so. But Zane would not let these mere Death Knights feast on his bounty. Instead, he simply responded to them with a callous tone in his voice.

"For now, go back to the void with the rest of my Horde. I will incorporate you within their ranks soon enough. When I call upon you, do not be surprised if there is a need to further shed blood…"

After saying this, the Death Knights, including Dani and Emily, all vanished from Zane's sight. Returning to the void where Zane's horde rested when they were not summoned into this plane of existence.

As for Gwen she quickly approached Zane and made a comment on his newest acquisitions.

"You now have more officers for your army than you require. I fear that if you do not expand your horde soon, then you will find yourself having chaos among your ranks!"

Zane could not agree more with Gwen's sentiment. However, he now had a fresh supply of a few dozen awakened hearts at his disposal. He could easily gain another five levels and distribute the rest of his gains among his companions. After all, Eliza and the others also needed to level up if they were to hunt bigger and better prey.

Because of this, Zane ordered his companions to return to the Mansion. They had concluded their objective and left not the slightest trace of their actions. When Victor learned that the harvest he intended to pluck before the other human factions could make a move had vanished seemingly into thin air. He would thoroughly lose his mind over the prospect.
