Chapter 2: Devil's Praise
Chapter 2: Devil's Praise
The boy cheered. Nothing was more satisfying than eating.
Lanny untied the bag and took out an ordinary round bread. It does not contain any special ingredients and is placed on the floating island of Babylon. It is a disdainful food for noble people. But on the surface, it was an incomparably precious food. Because it didn't emit any radiation and carried a faint fragrance of wheat.
Wheat was as legendary as dragons on the surface. As far as Lanny knew, only the enclosed agricultural base of the floating island could produce this kind of rice and wheat without any pollution.
She looked at the child who had taken the bread from her hand with an almost devout expression, and then carefully tore the bread off one by one and put it into her mouth, even licking the oil on her fingers carefully. Lanny suddenly felt sad. If it wasn't for her so-called persistence, wouldn't this child be able to live a better life now?
However, there was no going back.
After feeling sad, there was a strong rage. If it wasn't for that man, today wouldn't be like this. Thinking of this, Lanny clenched her slender fist tightly.
She took out a dagger from her bosom and put it in a black leather sheath. Lanny gently pulled out the dagger. The dagger was single-edged, and there was a golden pattern on the back of the dagger. Its shape is very simple, only at the end of the grip decorated with a red gem. The gem was carved into a demon's head, so the dagger had a very apt name.
The devil praised!
A small room.
A few wooden beds and a patched but clean blanket were all that was left of the room. Getting off the bed was the door. It was more like a cabin than a room.
Alan sat on the bed, leaning against the corner of the bed. The electric lights on the roof cast an orange light on the boy's little face. He had an extra dagger in his hand. He had just learned from Lanny that this dagger was called the Devil's Praise. And, about father.
Father was a strange term for Alan. From birth until now, he only knew about his mother, but he didn't know even the slightest bit of information about his father. Lanny didn't say anything about it, the only exception being last year's fight with the town's children, who called Ellen a fatherless child. When Alan came back, he asked Lanny. Lanny did not give him an answer and only gave him a few slaps on the butt.
Alan later equated his father with the beating.
But tonight, Lanny was a little abnormal. When she handed the dagger to her, her usually gentle mother's expression suddenly twisted and she shouted, "Alan, this knife was given to me by your father. I'll give it to you now and stab it into your damn father's chest with it! Can you do it?"
Alan instinctively nodded, but he didn't know why his mother had such an expression.
A five-year-old child still couldn't understand how this kind of emotion was called hatred. Many years later, Allen realized that this wasn't just hatred, it also contained love that was so deep that it was impossible to breathe.
Hate from love!
He groped for the sheath of the dagger, which was the best present he had ever received. Alan had long wanted Wootz's knife on his waist, and Wootz said he would give it to him when he was ten. But now, he had a better treasure. Alan swore that he had never seen such a beautiful dagger in town. The leather sheath that flowed with a gentle luster under the light, as well as the Abyss Devil Gem that refracted the light.
If you have to describe it, you can only use a sentence you just learned: This is simply too cool!
Alan couldn't help but pull out the dagger. The silver blade and the dark golden pattern on it made the little child's breathing slow. Allen could even see his face intertwined with surprise, excitement, and other expressions in the smooth blade. He licked his lips and gently wiped the dagger with his small hand.
A trace of coldness came from his finger, followed by a slight pain. However, a small cut was made on the tip of his finger by the edge of the blade.
So sharp!
Not only was Alan not afraid, he was also very happy. He quickly put away the dagger and used his mouth to suck the blood from his fingertips, allowing the smell of rust to melt away in his mouth. Then he slipped into the blanket and let out a low laugh or two. Very quickly, he fell asleep.
The boy did not know that the tiny traces of blood that remained on the edge of the blade suddenly began to swim and seep into the edge of the blade. As a result, the dagger in the scabbard returned to normal. However, the devil gem on the handle quietly flashed a faint rainbow light in the darkness of the quilt.
Three weeks later, the town welcomed its first winter snow. Silver-white snowflakes fell from the sky like gifts from heaven to the earth. They painted ugliness, concealed sin, and decorated heaven and earth with pure white.
The world is recovering.
After breakfast, Alan came out of the house. There was already a thin layer of snow on the ground outside the house, covering the black and yellow road, leaving behind a dazzling silver path. Alan raised his head and found that this winter seemed to be different.
Along with the snowflakes falling down, there were also some strange fluorescence floating in the world. Red, green, blue, purple, multicolored light floated in the air between the snowflakes. This was the most beautiful scene Alan had ever seen. He excitedly moved a tall chair out of the room, climbed up, and tried to reach out to catch the fluorescence.
The fluorescence seemed to be intelligent. Even though Alan's little hand was grabbing in the air, not a single one fell into the little boy's hand. The boy was not depressed, but had a brilliant smile on his face. Finally, a fluorescent light fell into Alan's hand. It was ice-cold and went into the boy's hand, so Alan saw a blurry light flash past his palm, forming a pattern that looked like a loop.
The pattern of light flashed.
"Alan! God, what are you doing here!"
Her mother's voice suddenly sounded, startling little Alan. The boy hurriedly jumped down and Lanny carried him into the room in a bad mood. "Didn't Mom say that staying in the snow would make you sick?"
Alan's little face was a little red from the cold. He exhaled a mouthful of hot air and said, "Look, I'm fine."
He was so stubborn that Lanny could only glance at him. Alan pulled his mother to the door and pointed at the sky, "Mom, what are those?"
"Snow."
"No, no, I mean the things in the snow. They have a lot of colors and they shine!"
Lanny flicked his head with her fingers. "Don't talk nonsense. There's nothing glowing."
Alan touched his forehead and looked curiously at his mother, then at the sky outside. The fluorescence was still there, but no one seemed to notice anything unusual about today's winter snow.
At this time, Alan didn't know what he saw.
That was Origin Energy, the energy of the Origin of the universe. None of the humans could see Origin Energy with the naked eye!
Something's awake.
It had to be said that the world was often repetitive and monotonous. It was like life in a small town, day after day, year after year.
Three days had passed since the first snowy day.
That night, when Alan was sleeping blankly, his forehead felt cold. It was as if someone was touching his forehead with a cold finger. He tried to open his eyes. In the dim room, there was a blurry figure. Alan said in a dreamy voice, "Mom?"
The man said "hmm" but didn't say anything. That slightly cold finger gently jumped on the boy's face, and his rhythmic movements caused Alan to fall asleep again as if he had been hypnotized.
The next day, the boy had forgotten what happened last night.
But today, Alan felt a burst of unexplained nervousness.
At night, this feeling became even more intense. It was so intense that Alan couldn't fall asleep, his heart pounded, and the hormones in his kidneys were more than twice the usual amount, causing Alan's pupils to unconsciously dilate a little as he looked out of the window. In those bright red eyes, tonight's moon was especially round and big. One could even see the magnificent mountains on the moon. Just as the boy was staring at the moon, an explosion suddenly came from far and near!
The boy was shocked and stood up from his bed blankly. Following which, a rough gunshot came from outside the window, and the man cursed angrily. There was a scream or two from a woman or a child mixed in between.
Lanny almost crashed into the room and quickly climbed onto the bed and closed the small window beside Alan's bed.
"What's wrong, Mom?"
The mother hugged the child tightly and forced a smile, "I don't know, maybe the dangerous species broke into the town. It's okay, Wootz and the others will deal with it."
As soon as he finished speaking, a few explosions sounded from outside, and the sound waves seemed to be much louder than the previous one.
It wasn't that the Dangerous Beast hadn't intruded into the town, but in the past, battles would end very quickly, and their voices would be far away from the town. But tonight, the explosions and gunshots seemed to have spread into the town and were moving towards the center!
That's not a dangerous species! A cold voice said in the boy's heart.
Dong dong dong--
Knocking sounds rang out like a shower. The frequency of knocking seemed to be about to knock down the thin metal door.
"Stay here and don't come out, darling."
Lanny jumped out of bed and patted Alan's head. She turned around and got out of the room. She opened the door. Outside the door was Wootz. Wootz's entire body was covered in blood, and he didn't know if it was his own or something else. Lanny only saw a long and narrow wound on his face. The wound was long and deep, and bones could be seen!
"Heavens, you're injured. Come in quickly, I'll take care of it for you." Lanny said subconsciously.
But when Wootz caught him, the cowboy shook his head and said, "There's no time. Listen, Lanny, I want you to take Ellen out of here."
"This" Lanny looked outside the house. The town was filled with flames. "Are they dangerous species? They "
"No, Lanny. This time it's not a dangerous species, it's a predator!" Wootz hurriedly said, "The men in town are all blocking the entrance to the town, but we won't be able to hold out for long. You have to take advantage of this time to leave. Leave this place and go to Gaule City or somewhere else."
He took two more things from his body: "This is a pistol, you know how to use it? And this is a grenade, pull out the safety bolt, throw it out, and blow up everything that has ill intentions towards you, okay?"
Putting them in Lanny's hands, Woods suddenly smiled as brightly as he had smiled when he first met her five years ago. On this night of blood and fire, it was as if sunshine had fallen on the ground: "I love you, Lanny."
Lanny's entire body trembled before she gritted her teeth and said, "I know."
He laughed and left the hut without saying anything. The figure that pounced towards the town entrance did not hesitate to look back!
