Chapter 206 Disappearance
Crackle. Crackle. Crackle.
Zayne paced forward, as the shattered asphalt of the bridge broke beneath his feet. He used the dance, the most powerful skill he had, to end the battle, but he hadn't made a single move yet, leaving it to Elein.
"Shit... I have to move... I can't let it end like this..." Elein muttered; she was used to fighting to the very end and was going to follow that rule now, but she didn't have the strength for it.
As soon as she tried to move, she felt great pain all over her body, and blood trickled from the corners of her mouth. She'd spent all her energy on the last attack, and now the best she could do was stand on her feet and lean on her katana.
Whooooooooooooosh.
Elein's eyes went wide when Zayne was suddenly in front of her. It took him a while, but Elein just didn't notice him as she was thinking about something else entirely.
"This is the end." Zayne said confidently, looking at Elein with his dark eyes.
Elein gulped. She knew she was about to die, and she didn't want that like any human being. For the first time in her life, she felt such fear, and it was the worst thing that had ever happened to her.
Zayne seemed a merciless warrior, even though on the outside he was an ordinary young man. Then, no one in the audience doubted what Zayne was about to do, they were quite sure of it.
However, the few people who had been watching the fight intently since its beginning guessed what Zayne might have been thinking.
Crack.
Zayne raised his fist to strike, stepped sharply forward, shaking the ground beneath him, and attacked.
Elein shuddered as a chill ran down her spine, trying to force her to do something, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't even lift her arms. All she had to do was stare at the crushing fist heading straight for her face.
'I'm going to die!'
The only thought that flashed through Elein's head before Zayne's fist came to an abrupt stop.
The impact, caused a shockwave that raised a torrent of wind, making Elein's hair flutter like a storm.
The few pieces of debris that were near her were swept away by the shock wave, unable to withstand the pressure that was exerted on them.
Elein, her eyes wide open, blinked as she stared at the fist that stopped right in front of her nose. She didn't understand what was happening, then Zayne's hands flashed blue energy, but it quickly disappeared.
"Next time don't you dare put my sister in danger, or I won't be as kind as I am now." Zayne said coldly, staring intently at Elein.
Elein just nodded. She didn't know what to answer, since all she could think about was how lucky she was to be alive. She wanted to live and just now Zayne had given her that opportunity. Another man in his position might not have spared her.
"Well, looks like the show's over and it's time for the lead actor to disappear from the stage." Alex muttered, hiding his face with his hood and rushing forward.
Luke, Alice, and Galahan exchanged glances, nodded, and scattered in different directions. Today they had accomplished all their tasks and seen what they had not even expected to see. Now it was time to take a break and look at the consequences.
Zayne took a step back, staggering slightly. Though he won, it was not an easy fight for him. On the contrary, after the battle against Enar and Selania, it was the longest and hardest fight of all. He was tired and he needed rest, or rather a place where he could hide from the thousands of eyes that were watching him right now.
"No way! He actually won!" Someone left a comment.
"Hah, looks like now no one will say that Zayne Fellen is just lucky! He's pretty damn good!"
"Fuck! How could Elein lose?! It just wasn't possible! Her last attack was unbelievable!" Someone was seriously upset.
"Well, you have to understand that Zayne was just a level up. Lucky for all of us, he turned out to be a reasonable person and didn't kill Elein."
"Yeah, I agree with the dude above. If he hadn't stopped his last punch, Elein's head would have just exploded! Ahahaha!"
"Damn... Guys, is it just me or did this go too far? That wasn't a scene from a movie... that truly happened, right...?"
"I agree. I hope the government does something about it. It looks like we'll have to accept that the world has changed considerably now, but we can't let something like this happen again."
"Pfffffffft! Don't you dare dash the hopes of millions to finally change something in their lives! Guys, don't listen to this idiot! The best thing you can do now is to start playing Fallen Fate Online and learn as much as you can about this game! You will be amazed when you see how this game can change you, in every way!"
The comments seemed to be endless. All over the world, people were discussing what Zayne and Elein had done, as well as what happened that night all over town.
Some were not going to accept this reality as it meant that all their past achievements were no longer as meaningful as before. But, at the same time, for others, it was a call to action.
The two men had just shown powers that only superheroes in the movies could have, and each of the viewers could one day reach a similar level. It was exactly what tens of thousands wanted, these people wanted power and freedom.
"You're all taking this too personally." Someone wrote, "I'm sure the police or military will come to the bridge now and Zayne and Elein will be in big trouble. They are real criminals and should be sent to jail for the destruction they have caused to our city!"
At the same moment, people's eyes went back to their television screens or their phones. Zayne and Elein were still on the bridge, and they certainly couldn't leave on their own.
Whoooooooooooooosh.
At the same moment, a silhouette in a long black coat appeared among the lights, heading straight for Zayne.
'Agh... Looks like I wasn't wrong to agree to cooperate with them then, right?' Zayne muttered inwardly as he looked at the man approaching him.
Zayne couldn't see his face under the hood, but from the two blades hanging from his belt, he could tell it was Alex.
Seconds later, Alex appeared right in front of him, threw Zayne on his shoulder, and jumped off the bridge, disappearing into the darkness like a shadow.
The reporters in the helicopters reacted quickly and tried to follow Alex, but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how much they shined spotlights on the areas under the bridge, they couldn't see anything.
"Shit! We missed him! How did that happen?" One of the reporters exclaimed, pounding his fist furiously, "Who the hell was that? Zayne Fellen had accomplices the whole time? Have they been waiting all this time for the fight to be over? What nonsense!"
The others had a similar reaction, they had just missed the main celebrity, but they still had Elein, so the helicopters quickly returned to their seats, pointing the lights at her.
Elein was breathing heavily, not even Zayne could get off the bridge himself, so it was definitely impossible for her.
'Fuck... If this keeps up, I'm going to be in big trouble. If only I had some strength...' Elein inwardly muttered while everything in front of her eyes blurred.
Elein lost her balance as she began to fall, the katana just falling out of her hands.
'No... I can't fall now... It's all over now... I just need to go home... I want to go home...' Elein thought before her eyes closed.
Whoooooooooosh.
At the same moment, a black blur appeared behind Elein as if made of ink. A silhouette with broad shoulders stepped out of it, wrapped one arm around Elein, grabbed her katana with the other, and disappeared into the hole with her.
Everyone's eyes went wide. No one expected this to happen and also what to do now. Both fighters escaped from the battlefield, with someone helping them, and reporters had no way to follow them. The situation was hopeless.
"Well, well, I guess I did all right. Though I was a little unlucky with the location of the second part of the fight, I'm the only one with unique footage." The reporter that was outside the hospital muttered with a sly smile on his face.
He didn't try to get to the bridge since he couldn't have captured anything better than the other reporters anyway, so the whole time he was just enjoying watching the fight as a regular viewer along with his assistant.
"Where do you think they are now?" The assistant asked with a worried expression.
The reporter shrugged, "I don't know, but I'm sure they're fine. They definitely need their rest after something like this. They deserve it."
