Chapter 705 Partners
Chapter 705 Partners
Meanwhile, on a faraway island, a luxurious mansion stood facing the vast sea, with a magnificent garden surrounding the palace like place. With every spec of the place resembling modern royalty, it looked nothing less than a place the wealthy would die to spend a day at.
With the waves hitting the shore and the wind carrying the sound of the waves and the smell of salt while the sun kissed the sea, giving it a golden touch, the place resembled a paradise one would want to visit once in a lifetime.
However, at the same time, it was a place one would never visit if one were ever to step on the island. Every part of the land was under surveillance, with armed security personnel at every ten yards.
On a closer look, it was more like a hellish training ground and anyone who trespassed would not be prosecuted but instead electrocuted.
The guards kept walking in and out as they shifted the items one by one inside the mansion, making sure not to make any noise while working. Besides their labored breathing as they continued to work, there was no other sound inside the mansion.
However, that could not be said the same about the study room on the second floor. A heavy tension loomed inside as the two men stared at each other, neither willing to back off. While one of them glared, the other just stared at him in amusement, his lips curving up into a smirk.
"How long will you continue to glare at me, Preston?"
"Why did you bring me here, Jared?" Preston spat, his eyes narrowing further in fury.
"If you have forgotten, let me remind you that I saved you." Jared still did not stop smiling and that irked Preston all the more.
"And if my memory serves, I was supposed to be with my colleagues. Your action of saving me has now put everything we have done to waste. What will others think about me?" Preston gnashed his teeth and leaned on the table, his hands supporting his body as he glowered over the man seated on the other side.
"You do not have to be so hostile with me. And don't worry, I do not think anyone knows about you. They won't suspect you at all." Jared's smile widened and he clasped his fingers as he raised his brows playfully.
"Easy for you to say. It's been quite a few days and I have gone missing. I'm sure someone out there must have started suspecting me." Preston seethed and ran a hand through his hair, pulling them lightly in frustration.
"Relax, I have it all planned and arranged. You just need to follow my words. You'll be fine."
Preston suddenly let out a chuckle, his eyes filled with ridicule. "Are you sure you have it all planned? All your plans have been foiled all this time, courtesy to many people. The list is huge, you know. How did you offend so many people?"
Jared's smile slipped as soon as he heard Preston's words and he narrowed his eyes, shooting daggers at him. "You are lucky you are my partner. Otherwise, you would be thrown into the sea by now."
"Oh...well, I'm honored to be your partner." Preston sassed and took the chair beside him, his shoulders sagging in defeat.
"Why did you bring me here? Be honest this time." Preston did not allow Jared to continue being playful and compelled him to turn serious.
"I wanted to discuss the next plan of action with you. You know what all has happened and how I lost everything."
Preston nodded in understanding and recalled all that had happened.
"Everything was in control. If things had turned out well, the world would know you to be the King and you would be the most feared person on land. Where did we lose?" Preston mumbled and thought about it.
From David Peters to Frederick Clarke, they had carefully plotted everyone's downfall. Even the war between the two countries has been planned brilliantly. They had played their schemes openly while they built the empire slowly. Although Jared had been put into the limelight due to their actions, it was all within their expectations. But every plan of theirs was foiled and now....they had to go into hiding.
"It's all because of Maggie, Valerie, Ivy and Aria." Jared seethed, his eyes filled with hatred for the four women who had made his life a living hell.
As soon as Preston heard Aria's name, his eyes softened, but it was only momentary.
"How did you not know about Maggie? She was working for me all this time and you had no idea about it." Jared glared at Preston, who was staring blankly before his voice brought him out of his trance.
"Did you ever bring her name before me? Moreover, was I not banned from attending your meetings? How would I ever know that she was the spy?" Preston fumed in return, his anger for Jared, Maggie, and everyone else returning in massive folds at that moment.
While Preston looked on, Jared huffed and took slow breaths to calm himself down. "What do we do now?"
"Just stay here for a few weeks. Let the situation calm down. We will think about something by then." Preston suggested. His mind was blank at that moment and he could come up with nothing.
"Fine, I'll do as you say. It will be better this way. Our prey will be anxious, while the predator will take his time to plan the hunt. I will spare no one once I return. No one." Jared promised and Preston gave him a profound look.
"Are you sure about that? What about Maggie?" He raised his brows and Jared's eyes flashed with ruthlessness.
"Especially her. She was the first one the betray me. I will not let her go this time."
Preston nodded as he went back to think. "Now, I need to get back to my colleagues and cook a brilliant story about my disappearance. I hope they will believe me."
"Don't worry. I have the perfect story for you and with an accomplice. You have nothing to worry about."
Although Preston was doubtful, he did not say a word and allowed Jared to make arrangements this time.
