Chapter 108 Ruffling Feathers
After that whole thing with Rachel, Eddie and Zack, Xavier didn't have much left to do for the day, so went to Connor's dojo to start with, and took part in an intense training session, always seeking to improve himself.
He chose Connor's dojo to begin with as he sought to improve his physique.
And who better to train with to do so than the giant man that was built almost entirely of muscle?
But that wasn't all the training that Xavier was planning on doing...
-
He no longer had the option to slack off in any way, as the progress those he had recruited were making was absurd, and if he wanted to keep up, he'd also have to work hard.
That's not to say his progress was anything to scoff at, and he had started to realise that he was no longer anywhere near the level he was at when he had recklessly decided to attack the Black Hand Gang alone.
And even when he was watching those at the top of the rankings at the Wild Dog Fight Club, Xavier was confident he would be able to take them down one way or another.
Of course, he made sure to learn from those fights, and one thing that always allowed Xavier to excel in anything he put his mind to, was his desire to learn and improve at all times.
He also no longer considered failing or losing a possibility, which made his sparring sessions very intense.
-
Since he started at Connor's dojo, he fought Connor first, and they didn't take breaks in their spars, as they weren't preparing for professional fights, but street fights where anything was possible.
And in the end, Xavier managed to get the best of Connor, just like he had always managed to do, however, that wasn't what was important in sparring.
Winning or losing was far less significant than improving their skills and technique, as well as seeing how much each other had progressed.
While Connor, and his unit who watched the spar, expected nothing less from Xavier.
Of course, they'd continue to follow him even if Connor had beaten him in the spar, but it just went to show that he wasn't all talk and that he was right to be in the position he was in as he bid them all farewell.
And after he did, he set off to Sam's then Achara's dojo, training with those in the unit, then sparring against the unit leaders the same way he had done with Connor.
However, at each of the dojos, he also had something he had to tell them, and he wanted to remain as transparent as he could with those that had dropped everything to join the Outlaw Gang.
-
At all 3 of the dojos that each of the units trained in, Xavier apologised to everyone in each of the units about the delay in him returning their money to them and also paying them.
He promised that it wouldn't take more than a few days for their money to be returned to them and for them to receive some money to fund their lives, especially since they had given him a lot of their savings to bet with.
However, to his surprise, they all told him to take his time and that they trusted him and their unit leaders, and even if he lost the money, they said that they could always earn more.
The attitude and trust that they had warmed Xavier's heart, and the Outlaw Gang was quickly becoming the gang that he had envisioned, as he thanked them dearly, but also maintained his status as their boss.
And since they had all made great improvements and things were all going well on their end, he had to make sure it was the same on his end of things.
-
Cleaning himself up after all the arduous training and sparring, then eating an absurd amount of food, Xavier put on his mask and pulled up his hood before heading to the venue where the Wild Dog Fight Club was going to be held that night.
And just like he had done the past 2 nights, he placed large bets early on and whenever he lost a bet, which was rare, he didn't let it get to him and continued betting.
He had even started to account for the fights that had match-fixing, which he noticed were usually the fights that had a lot of hype and didn't make significant changes to the rankings.
Although it was almost impossible to be right every single time and predict everything, Xavier had studied all the fighters in advance and had gotten a lot better at placing the right bets.
And towards the end of the night, Xavier heard a notification from the system that was like music to his ears.
[Congratluations! You have completed your mission and have been rewarded with Expert Precision, which is a passive ability just like the Martial Arts Talent you were previously issued with.]
Hearing that, Xavier struggled to hide his joy and was eager to test out the so-called 'Expert Prevision' he had been granted by the system, but once again, he didn't feel any noticeable changes in his body.
However, he had learned not to doubt the system and also wasn't planning on leaving the fight club just yet.
Despite tripling his money 3 nights in a row as per the system's mission, there were still a few fights left that night that Xavier had prepared to place bets on.
And although he knew that being greedy might end up backfiring, and it was usually best to quit while you were ahead, Xavier had already accumulated a large amount of money over the past 3 nights.
So what did he have to lose?
He had already completed his mission and was pretty confident in his bets, while he could also afford to lose some money even if he was completely wrong, so it was better to keep on going.
And he did exactly that, without doubting or second-guessing himself, which led him to earn even more money to the point that he started to receive some unwanted attention...
-
By the end of the night, from Xavier's estimations, his total winnings had surpassed a million dollars, which was a crazy amount of money to have earnt just by gambling for 3 nights in a row.
The first 2 nights he had requested to keep the money in the fight club since it would be troublesome to carry around the money that he was going to use to gamble the next night anyway.
But now that he had completed his mission and had also earnt enough money, he wanted to cash out, and when he informed the fight club worker that he wanted to do so, she nodded her head before leaving to prepare his money for him.
However, just as he expected, while winning so many bets and earning so much money in the process, he had ruffled the feathers of the one-eyed demons 5 elite guards who were running the fight club.
And it was none other than them who had to authorise and hand out winnings that surpassed a certain threshold...
