GENE DEVOURER

Chapter 39: Gene Devourer

Chapter 39: Gene Devourer

[Genes have been successfully usurped]

[Genes have been merged!]

[Installation successful!]

[You have acquired an evolved skill—Venom dance!]

[Evolved Skills]

[Venom dance]

[Rank 1: move unpredictably around enemies while dealing full stack of poison damage]

[Poison reserve: 100]

[Cooldown: 0.00 sec]

[Skill points: 2/5]

Marcus wasn't a bit surprised, he had known that he would get the same ability as the Rogue Ant given that the gene cores were from the same mutant beast.

"It seemed that chance stone was the reason"

Marcus recalled what the system had said about merging two gene cores from the same mutant beast together.

There was zero chance of getting an evolved skill.

"This skill is even ranked, it seems I will have to acquire more skill points to increase its rank"

His gaze landed on the last message floating on the dead mutant fire ant.

[Consume its gene remains to craft a gear]

"Well, I'm a Gene Devourer, why won't I devour the gene remains"

Marcus gave the floating message atop the dead mutant Rogue Ant a long gaze, then he used his broken dagger to cut some chunk out of the monster's body.

Marcus consumed it in one go.

"Eek!!"

"This never tastes better"

Marcus had forgotten to disable his gustation like last time.

"Eating this monster's meat is like having a meal in hell, well, not that I have been there before tho"

[Gene remains has been consumed and disintegrated!]

[Which gear would host like to craft?]

The message of some gears popped up.

[Stinger blade Dagger]

[Venom Claw]

[Deadly Fang]

"Dagger again? Wait a minute, I'm a little curious" Marcus scrutinized the floating screen, what he wanted to know was how he would get the dagger when crafted, as for the Venom Claw, and Deadly Fang, those would probably grow like his nails and teeth.

"How would I get this dagger?"

Come to think of it, the chance stone loot was used when he wanted to acquire an evolved skill, it was like it wasn't a physical entity.

And while he would need to have a biting power just like beasts to use deadly fangs, venom claw was still way more feasible than using one's jaw to fight in a battle, not when the opponent was armed with a weapon that could slice that particular jaw.

Marcus was somehow curious.

But first, he had to check the details of these gears.

"Huh, I can't?"

Marcus tried to view the items' details just like how he had always done when opening notifications with a mere thought, but nothing happened.

"Why??"

The system didn't answer, all he had in front of him was the floating purple screen. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"Okay, stinger blade dagger"

[Crafting has commenced]

[Time remaining: six seconds]

[Ding!]

[You have crafted a gear!]

[Stinger Blade Dagger]

[Uncommon Item]

[An item compatible with Awakened with poison powers]

[+50 poison]

[+10 Crit]

Marcus blinked in surprise as the system interface hovered before him. He carefully read through the options, his attention drawn to the newly crafted [Stinger Blade Dagger]. The dagger shimmered with a faint green aura, a clear indication of its poisonous nature.

Then a window solely appeared.

[Poison reserve: 100]

Marcus realized the window theme had changed from purple to green, and come to think of it, was it because of the faint green aura that swirled all around the dagger?

"The system just likes to have things its way, I guess the poison will add up when the dagger is equipped"

"So, how am I going to take it?"

[Buy at store!]

A window that seemed to vibrate upon Marcus' question appearance.

"Buy at store?"

Marcus was demotivated at once

"So I will need to buy it at the store with gene tokens after all, what is this system deal anyway?"

Marcus gazed at the store that had just appeared.

[Random gene chest]

[Price: 100 gene tokens]

[1000 Dragon gene crystals]

[Price: 50 gene tokens]

[Newly crafted stinger blade dagger]

[Five gene tokens]

When Marcus wanted to buy, he noticed that the system asked him to specify the quantity of what he wanted to buy.

"Wow! This means, anything I crafted here, I can buy more than one in the store. It's like the system can replicate items according to how many I wish to buy," Marcus murmured, excitement flickering in his eyes.

In this case, it was quite convenient. If he had many gene tokens, he would just have to buy as many of the gear as possible, and it would then be transferred to his inventory. The possibilities were endless. Stockpiling powerful gear meant he could prepare for any future battles or challenges without worrying about wear and tear on his weapons.

Marcus opted to buy two with his ten gene tokens immediately.

As if responding to his thoughts, the inventory window appeared in front of Marcus and under each category of items, the ones that fell into the same class were displayed, although most of the space was still empty.

Under the weapon category, Marcus found the dagger and then viewed its details.

[Stinger Blade Dagger]

[Uncommon item]

[An item compatible with Awakened with poison powers]

[+50 poison]

[+10 Crit]

"Huh? Am I supposed to take it just like that?"

Marcus steered at the dagger with a swirling green aura around it.

Come to think of it, the inventory window hadn't appeared solely like this before, the only experience he had was the stat window appearing solely, perhaps it was because he hadn't had the opportunity to take anything from it aside from his built-in exoskeleton that he can just manifest with mere thought which was like a part of his body.

Was it because it was built-in, or did it mean other gear that wasn't built-in would need to be taken physically?

"Let's test it then"

Steadily, Marcus stretched forth his hand into the floating inventory window, directly at the dagger image. As his hand penetrated this so-called inventory, the space the window was occupying midair seemed rippled like a water surface.

"That is new"

Then Marcus felt his hand grab something.

"A handle?"

Carefully, Marcus pulled what his hand had grabbed outward, after all, this was his first time experiencing such a phenomenon, it was indeed like pulling something out of a fluid like thick water, but Marcus felt no wetness whatsoever.
