Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle

Chapter 183: Threat

Crack! Crack!

Raze's attempt to call for Shane's attention was abruptly shattered by the sound of splintering wood and the earth trembling beneath her feet.

She turned towards the commotion, her warrior instincts kicking in as the trees in the distance began to topple one by one, heralding an approaching menace.

Graaggghhh~

A Giant Zombie emerged from the forest, its grotesque form towering above the treeline.

It was a behemoth of rotting flesh and exposed bone, a monstrosity that seemed to defy the laws of nature.

'What a huge Zombie… No wonder that Phoenix died in its hands…' Raze thought as she recalled Kendra's story… She also wouldn't want Roan to face this kind of zombie. She felt once it caught Roan, it would easily tear him apart!

There was no way she would allow that to happen…

'I wonder how they'll kill this thing…' She mused for a moment as she looked around.

Although everyone heard the warning, most of them were still at ease, as if they already knew the outcome of this siege against their shelter.

Raze then turned her attention back to the Giant Zombie…

Its eyes, if they could be called that, were hollow pits of darkness, and its gaping maw was a chasm of decay.

The creature's steps were ponderous, each one was probably leaving a small crater in its wake as it moved inexorably towards Springriver Manor.

The estate's warning bell stopped after some time, as it was enough to inform everyone about the threat…

At this time, Raze also recalled that the estate had an invisible barrier surrounding the shelter. She didn't notice it but Roan had informed her about the existence of this barrier.

Boom!

The Giant Zombie probably didn't see the barrier as well and it collided with it with a thunderous impact!

The impact sent shockwaves through the air, but the magical shield held firm, repelling the creature's assault.

From atop the watchtower, Shane took aim with his Sharpshooter's Laser Sniper Rifle, the weapon's advanced targeting system locking onto the zombie's head.

Bzzz~

The first shot seared through the air, grazing the creature's skull and leaving a charred trail across its flesh.

The Zombie was actually lucky as it had missed a step and was able to dodge the first laser charge!

Undeterred, Shane adjusted his aim and fired again.

Bam!

This time, the laser found its mark, piercing the Giant Zombie's head and burning through its brain. The behemoth stumbled, then fell with a ground-shaking thud, its reign of terror ended as swiftly as it had begun.

Raze couldn't help but feel so impressed… Perhaps, if the Sniper Rifle didn't have very limited ammunition or charge, she would've purchased this item as well.

"Mhmm?"

Nonetheless, the threat was not over. Roan, now alert and ready, hissed a warning to Raze. "More are coming," he said, his voice a low growl.

Raze's eyes wanted to find these Zombies so she swiftly stepped into one of the watchtowers that doesn't have a man guarding it…

Soon, she spotted a group of Jumper Zombies bounding towards the estate with unnatural speed.

They didn't even get close before Chaloem, the Buddhist Monk clad in his vibrant orange robe, stepped forward.

"A monk, huh…" Raze muttered as she felt curious at what he was about to do against the Jumper Zombies.

Ha!

Chaloem got ready in his fighting stance. His presence was seemingly calm amidst the storm, his hands coming together in a gesture of peace before unleashing his power.

Haaa!

Chaloem's movements were a blur as he charged towards the group of zombies! What was even more amazing about him was that he chanted a mantra while doing so!

His palms emitted bursts of radiant energy, which was his Ki, striking the Jumper Zombies mid-leap and sending them crashing to the ground.

His robe fluttered around him, untouched by the chaos, as he moved smoothly, his movement technique made him look really untouchable by the Zombies!

One by one, the Jumper Zombies fell before Chaloem's might. His technique was a blend of martial prowess and spiritual discipline…

As the last of the undead was defeated, Chaloem returned to his meditative stance, his breathing steady, his spirit unshaken.

Just like that, the estate had easily weathered the storm, its defenses proven once again.

If it was another clan who had faced such a powerful attack, they would probably fail to win without casualties on their side.

However, the top 1 in the Leaderboard Ranking truly deserved his spot…

"No wonder you're at the top, Shadow Strider…" She whispered.

Raze was in awe at the display she had seen just now. This was indeed a safe haven, a fortress against the undead, and she knew that here, under Shane's leadership, they would be able to thrive!

At this time, Shane descended the spiraling stairs of the watchtower, his mind already on the task ahead…

The fallen zombies outside the estate's barrier held valuable loot, and he was excited to see them, especially because he could use his x5 loot today on the Giant Zombie!

There was no way he wouldn't look forward to this…

As he passed Raze, he offered a brief but warm greeting, acknowledging her presence with a nod. "Good morning, Raze. I'll be outside for a bit," he said, his voice carrying a hint of excitement as Chaloem was already gathering the corpses outside so he could easily loot them later.

Raze waved at him and watched him go…

As she thought of looking for Lyra and Jaxon, her thoughts were interrupted by Roan's sudden unease.

"Someone is watching us… They're dangerous, be alert…" The dragon's voice echoed in her mind, a tremor of apprehension beneath his words.

Raze's instincts, honed by many battles, flared to life.

She scanned the surroundings and followed the directions that Roan pointed out. Soon, her gaze was drawn to the manor's rooftop.

There, silhouetted against the morning sky, stood a figure exuding an aura of power and menace.

If she wasn't mistaken, the butler mentioned that this person was Shinja, the Warlord and the Hero that Shane had summoned.
