Chapter 331 Shopping
Lysandra could tell that the chains being used by the guards weren't simple. It must be one of the specialties of this shelter. After all, Survivor-Type Zombies were quite intelligent and wouldn't let themselves get captured. They would normally retreat if the odds weren't that great.
The man, a middle-aged merchant with a kind face, glanced at her after hearing her question and then back at the scene.
"Ah, they're indeed capturing different types of Zombies every now and then... These ones they captured weren't placed inside a cage, so they're probably more intelligent and harder to deal with than the regular ones. Anyway, I heard that the guards bring them in for research and containment."
"Research?" Lysandra echoed, intrigued.
"Yes," the merchant nodded. "The shelter's scientists and engineers study them to understand their behavior and find ways to improve our defenses. Who knows, they might even be studying how to remove the virus in their bodies. It's dangerous work, but necessary."
Lysandra watched as the guards secured the zombies inside the facility. They didn't stay too long from the public's eyes. Their movements were efficient and practiced, so they seemed to have done this a lot, just like what the merchant said.
"I see. Thank you for explaining." Lysandra replied.
However, in her mind, she knew that it wasn't as simple as that. Capturing one or two of the same kind should be more than enough, but they decided to capture five of them for research. Nonetheless, there was no point in asking the merchant since Kang Zhen and his administrators would probably not tell the truth to the public since they deemed it unnecessary.
The merchant smiled. "No problem. It's always interesting to see how newcomers react to our ways. Welcome to the Ivory Gear Shelter."
Lysandra nodded while her mind raced with thoughts.
The shelter was more complex and advanced than she had imagined, and she was eager to learn more about its inner workings.
With a final glance at the facility, she continued her exploration…
In any case, she believed that Shane was also taking his time in the Alchemy Warehouse and the Mechanical Workshop.
Anyway, as she continued looking around the Ivory Gear Shelter, her curiosity led her to every corner of the bustling community.
The shelter was quite mysterious since it had a blend of old-world charm and unusual cutting-edge technology…
She wandered past a blacksmith's forge, where the rhythmic clang of hammer on anvil filled the surroundings.
One of the blacksmiths, a burly man with a mechanical arm, was crafting a set of finely detailed armor. She'd probably get interested in such armor if it doesn't look too heavy and uncomfortable to move around.
Nearby, she heard laughter echoing through the streets. It was a group of children playing with mechanical toys.
She had already seen this a while ago, but as she observed their mechanical animal toys, she knew that they were also highly advanced, even for just a toy.
As she walked, Lysandra's attention was drawn to a shop with a sign that read "Advanced Prosthetics."
She had seen this place together with Shane a while ago. Experience more on empire
Intrigued, she stepped inside. The interior was bright and clean, with shelves lined with various prosthetic limbs and devices.
The shop really showed the shelter's technological prowess, each item a blend of mechanical engineering and magical enhancements.
A young woman, who seemed to be the shopkeeper, greeted her. "Welcome to Advanced Prosthetics. How can I help you today?"
She asked while looking at Lysandra's limbs. It looks complete, and she doesn't seem to have any problems. However, she also considered that Lysandra had probably obtained high-end prosthetics that had human skin cover to hide her disability.
Unaware of the shopkeeper's thoughts, Lysandra glanced around. "I'm just looking around. This place is incredible."
The woman nodded. "Thank you. We take great pride in our work. Each prosthetic is custom-made to fit the needs of the wearer. But recently, we've been making adjustable ones to provide faster service. As a matter of fact, about 30% of the soldiers in this shelter who needed prosthetics would come to our shop."
As she said this, she pointed to a few prosthetics made of gold and steel. They were very attractive to the eyes, so it was no wonder they were put at the entrance.
"I see…"
Lysandra simply nodded and moved to a display case showcasing a variety of prosthetic arms. Some were sleek and simple, designed for everyday use, while others were more complex, with built-in tools and even bladed weapons.
'Whoa… This will definitely be popular once other Survivors learn about it. One arm caught her eye; it was made of polished metal and adorned with intricate engravings. "This one is beautiful," she said, pointing to it.
"That's one of our more advanced models," the woman explained. "It's designed for combat, with reinforced joints and a hidden blade. It's also enchanted to enhance the wearer's strength and agility."
Lysandra marveled at the craftsmanship. "It's amazing how you've combined technology and magic."
The woman smiled. "That's our specialty. We believe in creating prosthetics that not only restore functionality but also enhance the wearer's abilities."
As she continued to explore the shop, Lysandra found a section dedicated to prosthetic legs. One leg was designed for speed, with lightweight materials and a spring-loaded mechanism. Another was built for strength, with reinforced joints and a sturdy frame. Each prosthetic was a work of art tailored to meet the specific needs of its user.
'At this point, they might even start making an army of robots.' Lysandra joked in her mind as she felt that they could just add a torso and start assembling these things to create powerful humanoid robots.
Anyway, in another corner of the shop, she discovered a display of prosthetic hands. Some were simple and functional, while others were equipped with tools and gadgets. One hand had a built-in lockpick, perfect for someone who needed to bypass security measures. Another had a small compartment for storing items, cleverly concealed within the palm…
Furthermore, the prices were actually so low!
