Chapter 573: Attack
Chapter 573: Attack
About three days after the adventurers started to head out to explore and categorize the surrounding flora and fauna Nick got a report that made him quite angry. The war bands that he had chased off previously had come back in even greater numbers. Not only that but they had finally made it clear what it was that they wanted by capturing or killing most of the adventurers that had left the settlements walls. They put forth demands of surrender and even asked for Nicks head in exchange for the hostages back.-
There was not a riot because of stupid people in the settlement because anyone who thought that was a good idea was quickly convinced by the smart people living there that it was not in fact a good idea. Nicks anger caused his presence to crash down on his surrounds which drew Hephaestus out of the workshop to check on him. "I am sorry that my outburst disturbed you. I am merely angered by the audacity of these people despite my generosity. They made pests of themselves out of greed or ambition and I mercifully chased them away without any injury at all."-
"Now they have come back in greater numbers and not only killed or captured my subjects but even dared ask for my life to free those they took!" Nick said angrily. He had tried to give these people a chance to turn themselves around or at the very least become someone else problem but instead they escalated the situation. "You have done your duty as a good ruler and tried to limit the loss of life but now it is time to take it instead." the goddess said coldly. Unlike Nick she was a bit better at controlling her power so despite her own anger at the audacity of these people she did not effect her surrounds.-
Nick knew that her anger came from a place of closeness as she had clearly grow attached to him so the idea of someone wanting him dead upset her. "I know , They will be dead by the end of the day." Nick spoke firmly as he stood up and his staff appeared in his hand while his armor assembled itself on his body. "For a first time warning such as this a quick death will suffice." Celebrimbor said from the mindscape from experience.-
The elf lord was once a ruler himself so he knew what to do in matters such as this. 'I will be killing them quickly anyways but first I need to rescue the hostages.' Nick thought and the elf lord gave an approving nod. Flying out of the barrier around his island Nick went straight to the settlement to find a few people for the next step. The hostages are likely being guarded heavily so simply sneaking into the place they are being held was going to work. As a result Nick planned to draw out all the people guarding the hostages as a distraction while the team he was getting now grabbed the hostages and retreated.-
The team was going to consist of Sirius , the twins and three muggles that had proven themselves excellent in combat. Sad as it was those born with the talent to be warriors before the ritual reset everything simply couldn't excel at anything else and struggled in the world. Now however they could fully unleash their talents so long as they had the opportunity. Nick was more than happy to give them exactly that with magical weapons and armors made to close the gap between the magical and mundane in terms of combat.-
"Hunters" they had been dubbed by those in the settlement who saw them training or fending off the occasional magical beast that got too close to the settlement. There were roughly four sorts of hunters from what Nick could see , not because that was all that could be but by their own design. The first sort were the assassins that used short but fast weapons and stealth to try and finish their prey off quickly. The second were the juggernauts that focused their entire skillset on pure defense and as a result were slow and used heavy massive weapons for more damage if they hit but were also less likely to actually land a blow.-
The third sort was the rangers that focused their entire skillset on long range attacks via either magical guns or in a few rare cases bows. These ones were arguably the most dangerous as if you weren't aware of them they could kill you without you ever seeing a single sign of them. They final sort were the Death dealers people that took parts from the other three and fused them into a combat style that could perform in every circumstance but were not as good at each part as those fully specialized in it.
