I Became the Henchman of a Novel’s Villain

Chapter 38 - Yeah, Your Stepmom Sure Knows Me Really Well!

Chapter 38: Yeah, Your Stepmom Sure Knows Me Really Well!

Bai Zhou pushed open the door and almost burst out laughing. In front of him stood a man with his head wrapped in bandages, looking like a pig’s head. He was wearing baggy shorts, a tank top, and flip-flops, excitedly gesturing and boasting about Bai Zhou’s “heroic performance” from last night.

On the sofa, Ye Qiantong sat with a smile, watching Li Yonggang. Sitting next to her, holding hands, was a woman who appeared to be a few years older than Ye Qiantong.

This woman gave Bai Zhou an impression of elegance and grace, with a kind and gentle demeanor. Although her looks couldn’t quite match Ye Qiantong’s, Bai Zhou still rated her an 88 out of 100.

Nearby, a young girl dressed as a maid spotted Bai Zhou and immediately went to Li Yonggang’s side, saying: “Young Master, Brother Zhou is here.”

“Hm?” Li Yonggang’s bandaged face turned towards them, with just his eyes visible through the gaps.

He happily rushed over: “My good brother, you’re here!”

What the hell, good brother …

He grabbed Bai Zhou’s arm and threw his arm around Bai Zhou’s shoulders, leading him toward the two women, saying: “Stepmom, Auntie! Let me introduce you properly—this is my good brother, Bai Zhou!”

Still calling me good brother?

Bai Zhou waved his hand and said: “Young Master, just call me by my name.”

“No way!” Li Yonggang dramatically shook his head in refusal, but even a slight shake of his bandaged head looked exaggerated: “From now on, you’ll call me Yonggang, or Ganzi, because you’re my good brother!!”

Nonsense! If I call you that, how will I face your father? But Bai Zhou just smiled and shook his head without saying anything.

In his heart, though, Li Yonggang truly regarded Bai Zhou as his own brother. After all, Bai Zhou had risked his life to “defend and warn” his enemies on his behalf, which deeply moved Li Yonggang. He believed that neither he nor anyone under his father’s command would dare curse an opponent while staring down two gun barrels.

But Bai Zhou did just that.

Li Yonggang was convinced that Bai Zhou acted this way out of brotherly loyalty. Little did he know that Bai Zhou was just addicted to bullying others by borrowing authority. One can only imagine Li Yonggang’s reaction if he found out!

At that moment, Li Yonggang’s stepmother, Li Tai’s concubine, and Bai Zhou’s sister-in-law, smiled and said: “Yonggang, no need for introductions. Bai Zhou, I know him well.”

Bai Zhou felt a chill run down his spine.

Damn! This crazy woman!!

“You know him well?” Li Yonggang was stunned for a moment but quickly recovered: “Oh right, right! Brother Zhou is my dad’s personal driver for stepmom! Of course, you’d know him well!”

No kidding!

Bai Zhou looked at Li Yonggang’s bandaged head and thought to himself:  She’s more than familiar—your stepmom even knows exactly what my tongue tastes like. What more can be said?

But now, Li Yonggang was already boasting to his aunt with excitement: “Auntie, my Brother Zhou has incredible driving skills. You know how my stepmom gets carsick, right? Well, with Brother Zhou at the wheel, she’s perfectly fine! Isn’t that amazing?”

“Amazing, amazing!” Li Yonggang’s aunt responded with a kind smile, humoring her nephew.

Bai Zhou’s gaze shifted toward her. Even without makeup, she scored an 88. If she put on makeup, could she possibly rival Ye Qiantong? In the original novel, Li Tai’s sister, Li Ru, was mentioned but not given much focus.

Li Ru was entirely different from the rest of the Li family. Perhaps their father, Li Yonggang’s grandfather, knew that his sons were walking the same path as him, all no-good troublemakers. So, he ensured his youngest child, Li Ru, grew up in an untainted environment, receiving an education far removed from their family’s business.

Li Ru was now a professor at Magic City University, with no involvement in the Li family’s enterprises. However, all of her brothers, including Li Tai, doted on her.

Li Tai, especially!

In the original novel, the turning point where the protagonist, Chu Yun, began to suppress the Li family was when Chu Yun refused to compromise and used Li Tai’s sister to threaten him. This caused Li Tai to lose a significant portion of his power, shattering his chances for a comeback.

Chu Yun was the protagonist, after all! Yet this so-called protagonist justified his actions by claiming a sense of “righteousness,” brainwashing a straight-laced university professor.

Li Ru had nothing to do with the family’s business, yet Chu Yun used her to threaten Li Tai.

Such dishonorable conduct, and he still calls himself the hero?

That’s exactly the kind of thing Bai Zhou would do! That would make more sense!

While Bai Zhou was pondering Li Ru, she was also sizing him up. In her mind, if Bai Zhou was as reliable as her nephew claimed, her brother would have gained another powerful ally.

As Li Yonggang continued bragging in the living room, upstairs, the door to the study was knocked on.

“Come in!” Li Tai’s voice called from inside.

One of his close subordinates, dressed in black, opened the door and entered, saying: “Boss, Bai Zhou has arrived.”

Upon hearing this, Li Tai slowly turned his head. Opposite him sat Zhou Yuntian. The two bosses exchanged a glance, and Li Tai said: “Alright, I know.”

With that, he stood up and headed toward the door.

“Hm?” This movement surprised his subordinate.

Li Tai walked to the second-floor railing and called down: “Bai Zhou! Come to the study and see me.”

“Zss—!” The subordinate’s eyes widened slightly as he took a sharp breath: “The boss is personally summoning Bai Zhou to the study?!”
