Chapter 198 Taking Supplies

Chapter 198 Taking Supplies

When the three reached the main entrance, they noticed two zombies walking aimlessly. Dried-up blood covered the zombies' bodies and one of them even had its entire right arm bitten off.

Brandon narrowed his eyes. There was another exit, but there were more zombies there so this path was a lot safer. "There's only two of them. Can you handle that zombie?" Brandon asked the sporty guy while pointing at the taller zombie.

The sporty guy gripped the handle of the axe with both hands as he nodded. His face was covered in sweat.

"Let's move slowly. They have sensitive hearing so we have to be careful." Brandon warned. He then gave a signal to the sporty guy as he walked towards the one-armed zombie. Meanwhile, the sporty guy silently walked towards the other zombie.

The tomboyish girl stared at them worriedly, afraid that things would go wrong. She didn't have any weapon so she could only watch it in silence. "Please be safe, you two." She whispered. The fate of their friends rested in their hands and a single mistake would end everything.

When Brandon got close to his target, he smashed the zombie's head with the bat.

Pa!

The zombie's head dented and cracked, but it didn't die. It growled at Brandon and tried to grab him with its remaining arm.

After avoiding the zombie's sharp nails, Brandon kicked its stomach which pushed it to the ground. The zombie struggled to get up. However, Brandon didn't give it the chance and bashed its head with the bat.

Pa! Pa! Pa! Pa!

Blood splattered and the zombie's head was crushed after his repeated beating.

Huff! Puff! Huff! Puff!

Brandon breathed heavily as he used the bat to support his body. He was exhausted and he felt like he was about to collapse. If not for the adrenaline he felt earlier, he wouldn't be able to strike the bat consecutively.

Meanwhile, the sporty guy had already killed the other zombie. He was way better than Brandon and he managed to behead his target after three strikes from his axe. He gave Brandon a thumbs up.

"Hey! Are you alright?" The tomboyish girl ran up to him and grabbed his arm.

Brandon could feel her soft body pressing against his arm, but he wasn't in the mood to enjoy this. "I'm fine. We have to hurry. The zombies would be here soon!" He said while gently pushing her away.

The trio quickly stepped out of the building and hid behind an abandoned SUV. There were zombies roaming around the streets so they didn't dare make a sound.

Brandon made a shushing' gesture while pointing at the zombies in the middle of the streets. The tomboyish girl and sporty guy nodded their heads solemnly.

Brandon slowly lifted his head and looked at the situation. The convenience store was across the street, but there were over a dozen zombies nearby. If they foolishly ran to the convenience store, the zombies would hear them.

While observing the surroundings, Brandon saw an empty can of soda lying on the ground and an idea flashed into his mind.

He grabbed the empty soda can and handed it to the sporty guy. "Throw this as far as you can in that direction." He said while pointing at the western side of the street.

The sporty guy didn't know what he was planning, but the tomboyish girl revealed a look of realization. She seemed to have understood Brandon's plan.

The sporty guy arched his body in a throwing motion. He was a basketball player and they always had to perform this pass during their drills. Now, he could finally make use of all the passing drills he did before.

The empty soda can drew an arch in midair and it produced loud rattling sounds the moment it fell into the ground.

Growl! Growl!

The zombies who were moving aimlessly earlier followed the direction of the sound.

"Let's go!" Brandon whispered to the two after seeing that the zombies were moving away.

The trio silently jogged towards the convenience store. Luckily for them, the store was open and there was no one inside.

"Take as much food and water as you can. I'll find the medicine." Brandon said as he grabbed an eco bag displayed at the counter. The tomboyish girl and sporty guy also grabbed one eco bag each before they started to take away all the food on the display shelves. They also took away the bottled water and other beverages inside the refrigerator.

Meanwhile, Brandon headed to the medicine section. Every medicine was labeled, but he didn't know the names of the medicines. "I'll just take them all." He uttered as he transferred the medicines inside a paper bag. After taking enough medicine, he grabbed some food and other items that could be useful for the group.

Soon, all their bags were filled with supplies.

"Let's go back before the zombies notice us." Brandon said.

The two wanted to grab some more items, but they knew that he was right. They quickly went out of the convenience store while tightly hugging the supplies they had taken.

While they were running back to the building, the tomboyish girl noticed that the zombies were approaching them. "They saw us! Hurry!" She shouted.

Brandon cursed her in his heart. Initially, only a few zombies noticed them, but after the girl shouted, the other zombies soon discovered them.

Growl! Growl!

As if injected with drugs, the zombies chased after them like a pack of wolves.

"We're close! Don't stop!" Brandon shouted. He no longer cared if more zombies would sense the commotion. They had already attracted the nearby zombies so a adding few more doesn't matter.

The trio quickened their pace. They already felt very tired, but they pushed through their limits and ran with all their might.

The sporty guy was the first one to enter the building. He was followed by Brandon and the tomboyish girl.

"Close the door!" Brandon shouted.

The sporty guy put down the eco bag in his hands and quickly closed the door.

"It won't hold them up for long! Let's go upstairs! Quick!" The building was old and the main door wouldn't be able to withstand the weight of the zombies.

While running upstairs, they heard the sound of the door breaking which made them feel anxious.

"Carlo, go ahead of us and tell the others to open the door!" Brandon shouted to the sporty guy.

Carlo stared at him seriously and nodded his head. The door has to be opened quickly or the zombies would be able to catch them. "Alright. You two take care!" He shouted before increasing his speed.

Carlo was faster than them, but he matched their pace since he didn't want to leave them behind. This made Brandon believe that he could place his trust in Carlo.

Brandon and the tomboyish girl were already breathing heavily. The hiding spot of the group was on the sixth floor and they were still on the fourth floor. Furthermore, the zombies were closing in on them. The distance between them and the zombies was slowly decreasing.

Brandon could no longer speak and he was struggling to breathe. On the other hand, the tomboyish girl looked a bit better. Although she was also breathing heavily, she didn't look as tired as Brandon.

When they reached the fifth floor, Brandon was already on the verge of giving up.

"B-Brandon, we're almost there!" The tomboyish girl shouted when she noticed Brandon's pale face.

Growl! Growl!

Dozens of zombies chased after them and the distance between them was only a few meters.

Just as Brandon was about to give up, he suddenly saw Carlo running towards them while lifting a chair over his head. Behind him were their friends who were similarly holding a bunch of heavy stuff.

"Now!" Carlo shouted before throwing the chair in his hands towards the zombies.

"Ahh!!!" The others screamed, but they still managed to throw some objects to slow down the zombies.

"Go in! Quick!" Carlo shouted at them.

The moment they entered the room, Brandon and the tomboyish girl collapsed on the floor. They were breathing raggedly.

Carlo quickly closed the door and moved some heavy objects to block it.

"Good job, everyone!" Carlo shouted happily as he leaned on the wall.

Everyone joyfully smiled as they began to devour the food that the trio had taken. They hadn't eaten anything for a long time and the feeling of eating something almost made them cry.

"Celine's medicine is inside a paper bag." Brandon said while holding his chest.

One of the teachers squatted down and searched for the medicine. She then helped the sick girl eat the medicine.

After drinking the medicine, Celine stared at him and whispered. "Thank you..." Her voice was still weak so it was barely audible.

Brandon smiled at her and leaned on the wall. He felt like all their hard work was worth it when he saw everyone's joyful faces.
