Chapter 142: 127 The Second Kill! Harmful Ones, Slay (Seeking monthly tickets, recommendations, and subscriptions)_1
That same night.
Dusk settled in.
Inside the Investigation Team’s Base.
After finishing his training, Pei Jinye felt a pent-up breath in his chest that he desperately wanted to vent.
He then changed into casual clothes and went downstairs alone to clear his mind, unknowingly ending up at Old Zhang’s logistics area.
Old Zhang, draped in a coat and dumping out a basin of water, greeted Pei Jinye with enthusiasm when he saw him.
Pei Jinye came to and asked, “Old Zhang?”
“How come you’re not asleep yet?” Old Zhang asked with his simple, honest smile.
Pei Jinye shook his head, “Can’t sleep, just taking a walk.”
“Are you worried about Old Niu’s issue or the mission?” Old Zhang invited him in for a drink of water.
“Both,” Pei Jinye replied as he took the disposable cup of water Old Zhang handed him and thanked him.
Old Zhang turned his head and kicked a cardboard box in the corner, “Your dad’s here, aren’t you going to come out and say hi?”
Pei Jinye:
Big Black Dog: ”
Old Zhang also realized his slip of the tongue and coughed dryly, “Got carried away, you damned dog, get over here right now.”
Pei Jinye silently took a sip of the boiled water.
Big Black Dog stuck its head out of the cardboard box with drowsy eyes. Upon seeing Pei Jinye, it gradually woke up, rubbed its head inside the box as if to show some respect in a perfunctory manner.
Pei Jinye chuckled.
Then, he put down the cup.
“I won’t disturb you any longer, there’s a mission tomorrow.”
Old Zhang watched him leave, then proceeded to scold Big Black Dog, who buried its head into its dog bed lined with floral cotton padding, whimpering feebly.
At this moment.
Somewhere.
A dark figure was holding a cellphone, which displayed a message: “Why did it fail?”
The shadow typed out: “His Physical Body is strong, sending ordinary people is completely useless!”
“Useless!”
Morning.
Pei Jinye was practicing the Play of Five Animals at the base with the aid of “Twelve Lotuses”, progressing with godlike speed.
Not too far away, Big Black Dog, looking eager to please, wagged its tail as if deeply remorseful about its attitude the night before. However, after eagerly rubbing against him for a while, Pei Jinye kicked it away in disdain.
To protect its little brother, Big Black Dog didn’t dare to interfere.
Just then, Big Black Dog suddenly stood up and looked alertly at the figure appearing at the end of the path.
Brother Kui, clad in a black trench coat, shone brightly atop his bald head under the overcast sky, prompting Pei Jinye to consider giving him a black eyepatch.
“You were attacked last night?” Brother Kui asked as soon as he arrived.
“It’s nothing,” Pei Jinye said casually, “But how did you know, Brother Kui?”
“Our group is in charge of tracking the daily activities of those two individuals,” Brother Kui noticed Big Black Dog nearby and said in surprise, “Yours?”
“No, Old Zhang’s,” Pei Jinye responded as he pushed away Big Black Dog once again trying to hug his leg, “Go play on your own.”
Big Black Dog wagged its big tail.
Brother Kui skeptically said, “Such a mighty dog, it’s truly a pity not to make it a police dog.”
Pei Jinye’s expression turned odd.
This lump of coal as a police dog? He was afraid it would corrupt the other police dogs.
“What brings you here this time, Brother Kui?”
“Just passing by, wanted to see if you were alright, no worries if you’re fine…” Noticing the greyish-white marks on the ground, Brother Kui laughed, “Were you practicing the Play of Five Animals just now?”
Pei Jinye nodded, seeming a bit itching for a fight.
Brother Kui felt the stir too and glanced at his watch, “Let’s spar for half an hour. I have to go on a mission later.”
He threw off his coat, which landed on the grass beside them.
They took their stances and soon tangled up in a fight.
Big Black Dog watched, tucking its tail and looking utterly flabbergasted.
Soon after.
It barked loudly at Brother Kui, putting on quite a spectacle of defending its master.
The bout lasted less than ten minutes before Brother Kui left.
Pei Jinye then looked away and gazed at Big Black Dog squatting by his side, shook his head and chuckled, “It’s not a real fight, why are you more excited than me?”
Big Black Dog barked, though it was hard to tell what it was trying to say.
Later on, rewarded by Pei Jinye with a mouthful of replenishing meat, Big Black Dog indulged in bliss, wishing it could follow Pei Jinye to The Horizon, relishing a meaty treat every meal.
After Pei Jinye followed Hu Beng out on a mission.
Big Black Dog turned its head and went to find Old Zhang, barking incessantly.
Old Zhang was bemused, “Did you eat the wrong thing this morning?”
“Woof woof.”
“…What’s gotten into you? Go play by yourself, I’ve already fed you breakfast, wait a bit more for lunch.”
Big Black Dog could only turn around and take a nap in its doghouse.
It seemed to be couldn’t get over it.
It sneaked off to the nearby police dog base on its own, and after confirming that there were no rivals around, the tight tail immediately stood erect like a king surveying his domain.
“Woof woof!”
“The latest clue from this morning’s interrogation room suggests that the 13th Research Institute has a secret warehouse in the West Suburb,” Hu Beng whispered, “Fan Dahai has already pinpointed the location. We’re heading over now to see if we can uncover anything.”
Pei Jinye, carrying a silver briefcase, settled in the passenger seat and fastened his seatbelt, asking, “Did they say what this secret warehouse was used for?”
“The arrestee in charge confessed everything and then died.”
“Died?” Pei Jinye turned to look at him.
Hu Beng whispered, “Everyone in the interrogation room has been isolated for investigation, it’s unclear whether it was because of excessive force or an insider.”
Pei Jinye fell into silence.
Can the rich and powerful really do whatever they want?
West Suburb.
Following the coordinates provided by Fan Dahai, Pei Jinye and Hu Beng quickly located the secret warehouse of the 13th Research Institute.
Both activated their Mech Bodies to avoid any attacks.
