Chapter 15: Holy Church's Axioms
Chapter 15: Holy Church's Axioms
In a slightly dim room, a man was sitting in a chair looking out of the window at the bright stars.
He was in his middle ages, and had a serene look on his face.
Suddenly, the sound of a door opening with a creak echoed through out the room.
A young girl who was 17 entered the room and said in a voice full of respect while doing a ceremonial bow, "Have you summoned for me, father?"
He was the ex leader of the holy church, one of the main contributors in helping the belief of the holy church to spread so far and wide.
When he ruled the holy church, the holy church stayed true to its name and beliefs. It never committed any kind of atrocities.
But, then an internal war took place, and he had lost his power. He was now no more than an ordinary priest in the holy church.
But, he was not satisfied with the way the holy church was behaving nowadays. He was already upset with them massacring people who had other beliefs and was thinking of launching an internal war again to reclaim his power, but what made him finally take the decision was the holy churches new axioms.
According to them, every single family of the kingdoms in which they rule will have to send one child to the holy church for 'training', of course, only if they had a child.
Others may think that those children will just be trained in the teachings of god, but that was false.
What they would be trained to become is not peacemakers! They will be trained to become pawns for the holy church to help in it's expansion! And this so called 'expansion of religion' will not be peaceful.
So, he summoned his most faithful follower. He had taken her in when he found her ragged and malnourished, out in the cold dark streets. That was years ago, and now she had grown into a valiant and brave woman.
He saw her as his own daughter.
The middle aged man said in his raspy voice, "Yes Elena. I have a task for you."
Elena smiled and said, "What is it father?"
The middle aged man said, "As you know, I'm going to launch an internal war soon. We need as many people and kingdoms to support us as we can get. Andestein's king has very recently agreed to work with the holy church, so it is out of our reach.
I have heard that Lyria has split from Andestein, and the prince of Andestein was banished to it. As you know, the Lyrians absolutely despise the concept of kingship on a whole. They might kill that helpless child soon.
Go to Lyria and strike a deal with the king of Lyria. Tell him that we will help spread a positive image for him if he agrees and provide him with financial support.
All he needs to do is work for us."
Elena seemed slightly confused as she asked, "Why take that much trouble father? Lyria is a small town with only a few thousand people living in it."
The middle aged man chuckled and said, "Yes my daughter. It is a small town, but all the people in it are strong. The holy church plans to take over Lyria anyway. Why not get Lyria under us while helping the prince at the same time? He will remain grateful to us."
"What if he refuses father?", Elena asked.
"Then kill him. He's defenseless right now.", said the middle aged man without even thinking about it, like it was a completely normal thing.
