Infinite Potential System

Chapter 58 Ranking Board

58  Ranking Board

"The number one Outer Core Disciple? How am I supposed to do that?!" William thought out loud on accident, attracting some odd looks.

The System gave him a Quest, but didn't provide many details. William used his understanding of Cultivation Sects to make a guess. Maybe there is a leaderboard that ranks each individual disciple, or everything is decided with a tournament. William thought. Su Yanyu came back to William's table with his food. "Here you are, do you need anything else?" William took the food with a smile and decided this was a good opportunity to get some information. "Ah, yes. Do you happen to know who the number one Outer Core Disciple is?" Su Yanyu realized William was probably a new disciple. "That would be Hanzu. All the top ranking disciples will show up on the ranking board in the Lecture Hall, why do you ask?" I knew it!

"Just curious. Do you know where I can find him?"

Su Yanyu laughed. This kid is a bit ambitious, isn't he? "If you want to meet with someone like that, you'll need to climb up the rankings. The Sect doesn't allow challenges to be sent out to the top 100 unless you are within 10 ranks. Otherwise, everyone in the top 100 would receive too many challenges and not be able to keep up with their missions.

Even if that does happen, I wouldn't recommend aiming for the number one spot." she leaned towards William to whisper, "No one talks about it, but everyone knows Hanzu could be an Inner Core Disciple whenever he wants. He declined taking the test multiple times just so he could hoard the best resources from the Outer Sect."

William nodded in understanding. So even a famous Sect has some bad apples. I'm not surprised.

"Thanks." William smiled to the girl.

"You're welcome. And if you meet Hanzu somehow, don't tell him I said those things." Su Yanyu waved before heading towards her other tables.

William took a bite of his Spirit Deer Venison. His eyes opened wide as he tasted the most amazing food since arriving in this world. The spices were amazing, the meat was cooked perfectly to his standards, and the flavor melted in his mouth like a quiet evening in Autumn.

The experience didn't end there. When William swallowed the venison, he felt a surge of Mana coursing through his body, cleansing minor imperfections and making him feel refreshed.

--Spirit Food: Mana Control +1% (6 hours)

--Unlocked Title: +1 Potential Point

-Gourmet (Uncommon): You've eaten your first Spirit food, sating your appetite and causing temporary effects. Stamina increased by 10%.

William hadn't received a new title in a while and was pleasantly surprised. All I have to do is eat more food to upgrade this title? Sweet! He could already see the Potential Points rolling in.

Even better, an improvement to his Stamina is just what William needed. So far, he had to spend a lot of time running from difficult enemies because he wasn't able to fight at full power for more than a few minutes. If William could upgrade the Gourmet Title, he could spend more time grinding monsters in the wild, and could fight longer with the stronger enemies.

William paid for his meal and left the restaurant. He didn't want to waste time, so William walked towards the Lecture Hall to find the ranking board that Su Yanyu mentioned. Even though it was late in the afternoon, most facilities at the Sect didn't seem to be closed yet. Many disciples still roamed the streets and there was even more activity at the training area.

Cultivators didn't need as much sleep as normal people, so it made sense. William wished he could've Cultivated in his other world so he could binge watch his favorite shows after work. Life would be so much easier if he didn't have to sleep...

He arrived at the Lecture Hall, which was of a different architectural style than the other buildings. The colossal marble pillars reminded William of a Greek parthenon, and a massive wall of marble was set off to one side of the Lecture Hall. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Even from a distance, William could read hundreds of names on the marble wall. He quickly read through the top ten names on the list.

"1. Hanzu Yashi"

"2. Mira"

"3. Jasper Renolds"

"4. Pierre Labouf"

"5. Wan Bingyu"

"6. Alan Bishop"

"7. Su Yanyu"

"8. Rei Fuku"

"9. Yamato"

"10. Gonzo Baraka"

William looked over the list, finding many of the names to be comical. Who names their kid Gonzo?

The System seemed to understand William's confusion.

-Request requires 1 Potential Point. Yes/No?

Eh why not, it's just one point anyway.

-The Five Elements Sect recruits talented individuals from across the entire Continent, leading to a mixture of cultural backgrounds.

It made sense when William thought about it. He returned his attention to the list of names, feeling as if he was missing something important.

"7. Su Yanyu"

Is that the same Su Yanyu I met in the restaurant? No way! William tried to recall Su Yanyu's characteristics, but he must not have paid much attention and couldn't remember anything other than her voice.

Wait, it's not that I didn't pay attention. I CAN'T remember. William realized. With the Mind Talent, William was able to recall many things a normal person couldn't if he made an attempt. But Su Yanyu was different. He could make out the details of many other customers in the restaurant, even a random bald-headed man that was seated in the corner of the restaurant, but Su Yanyu was just a hazy figure in his memory.

It seems this Quest will be more difficult than I thought. As expected of top-ranking disciples from a famous Sect. Even the Outer Core Disciples are impressive.

Damn! I thought I was already overpowered!

Without a doubt William was very strong amongst others of the same age, however the same does not apply against those with unnatural abilities. He became worried at the thought that Su Yanyu probably wasn't even targeting him. What if the two actually fought? Would she make him forget who he was?

William decided he would never get on that girl's bad side. He looked to the right of the ranking board, where a smaller marble tablet was located. Written on the front were a list of rewards that increased the higher your rank was. Prizes were awarded at the end of each month, and the top ten received bonus prizes that would benefit them greatly.

"1st Place: 100 Mana Stones and a ticket to the Gravitas Ruins"

"2nd Place: 50 Mana Stones and 3 Elemental Quartz"

"3rd Place: 50 Mana Stones and 1 Elemental Quartz"

"4th-10th Place: 25 Mana Stones"

"11th-100th Place: 5 Mana Stones"

"101th-500th Place: 1 Mana Stone"

Mana Stones? Don't I have quite a few of those?

William looked through one of his Space Rings. In the corner lied a pile of 138 Mana Stones neatly organized next to his Gold Coins. Since he bought more Space Rings, William made a habit to split up his items for organization. He even had them color coded.

If an old Cultivator only had this many Mana Stones, it must mean that the first place reward is actually quite a lot, right?

This time the System answered for free. -One Mana Stone is worth roughly 1 thousand Gold Coins.

"One...one thousand!?!" William's jaw dropped to the floor.
