Interstellar Survival: Invasion

Chapter 239: Star-Level Civilization

Chapter 239: Star-Level Civilization

"Quasar, the berserk celestial body? How is it possible to extract anything from something like that? Any life form will be destroyed before it can even approach one," said Old Du.

"This is not a technology people from planet-level civilizations like you can understand. You probably need more than 10,000 years of development before you can understand a concept this advanced," declared Temo with his head raised proudly.

"With the intelligence of Bluelings, we can probably grasp the knowledge in a short period of time," said Zhang Bao'er with derision.

"I'm talking about a star-level civilization. We can produce energy at the level of a star. We can also produce machinery capable of extracting the energy we need. The energy we use does not originate from planets. Rather, it originates from stars and celestial objects of the same tier," said Temo.

"Canyue, who cares about his trashy civilization? Let's find an exit before blowing this place up. It will never be wrong to destroy their energy system," said Zhang Bao'er, ignoring Temo.

"I agree, Canyue. The beasts are going to catch up to us anytime soon. We need to leave as soon as possible," said Old Du.

"You are so ignorant it's scary. Not to mention that you won't be able to penetrate the protection of a substance extracted from a white dwarf, even if you can, the energy source contained within it is powerful enough to devour the entire planet the moment it is exposed to air. At that time, no life on this planet will be able to escape destruction," said Temo.

"He's telling the truth. If a black hole a centimeter wide can devour an entire planet, something extracted from a quasar will be even more powerful," said Dodo.

Our downloaded knowledge included information on quasars. Thus, we understood that Temo wasn't bluffing. Also, there were probably over 10,000 of these energy installations all over this planet. Even if we can safely destroy this one facility, it wouldn't affect our enemy much.

"Looks like we need to change our target. The superweapon should be our number one priority," I suggested.

"The superweapon is powered by such a terrifying energy source. Its destruction might also result in a backlash that can destroy this planet," said Dodo.

"Dodo, you're right. Therefore, I do not intend to destroy the superweapon after it is fully assembled. Instead, we will try to destroy the separate parts of the superweapon and buy time for our main force," I said.

"But even if our main force comes here, they will still face the threat of such a terrifying energy source. We just don't have the technology to put an end to something like this," said Old Du worriedly.

"As defenders of peace, we can try our best and do what we can. As for the issue concerning our level of technology, that's a problem for the league," I said.

"I understand. We are trying to face a star-level civilization with the might of a planet-level civilization. The gap between the two is too large," said Dodo.

"It would be great if we could find an even higher level civilization to suppress a star-level civilization. Dwarf, what is a civilization of a higher level than the star level called?" asked Zhang Bao'er.

"It would be the array-level civilization. I doubt an inferior being like you would have even heard of it," said Temo, simultaneously answering the question and belittling Zhang Bao'er.

"And what is the civilization a tier above the array-level civilization?" Dodo asked.

Temo shot Dodo a glance and said, "That would be a civilization almost as powerful as the Creator. I have never heard of such a civilization."

"Stop thinking about something so distant. Let's follow Canyue's plan and start destroying parts of the superweapon," said Old Du, bringing us back to the topic at hand.

Old Du's reminder worked as everyone stopped talking about quasars and civilizations and instead focused on destroying the superweapon.

"Temo, can you tell us the purpose of the different parts built in the various workshops? Also, can you tell us their positions on the superweapon and their level of importance?" I asked.

Unsurprisingly, Temo rejected my request.

"Canyue, if you don't have a better idea, let's follow Domo'sthe Jido'splan of simply destroying the 10 workshops closest to us," said Old Du, creating yet another lie.

And the lie worked. At the mention of Domo, Temo's face sank.

"What does that lowly peasant know? If you follow his plan, all you'll do is damage the superweapon's legs. It won't have much effect on the superweapon," said Temo.

"Looks like we're at the area focused on producing the superweapon's legs. In that case, which part of the superweapon would count as its core?" I asked.

"The core of the super robot's control center is its chest. If that part is damaged, the robot won't be able to move. That would be much more damaging than the loss of legs," said Temo without bothering to hide anything.

"Can you take us to the workshops in charge of manufacturing the chest parts? If you can, I'll release you afterward," I gave Temo another promise of freedom.

Surprisingly, Temo agreed with no hesitation.

"Dodo, ask these laborers if there are other ways out," I ordered.

"Don't bother. I'll show the way," said Temo.

After saying that, Temo walked toward a corner of the room.

"Canyue, this fellow is suddenly too cooperative. This smells fishy. Be careful around him," reminded Old Du.

"I have the same feeling. You have the permission to kill him at the first sight of danger," I ordered for the sake of our team's safety.

Temo reached his destination quickly. Surprisingly, there was actually an extremely well-hidden door there. The door blended nicely into the wall, and under the dim lighting, we wouldn't have noticed it without someone showing it to us.

"This fellow knows this place as if it's his own home. I think he has been here before. Be careful of traps," reminded Zhang Bao'er.

"Every single workshop here has the same layout. Do you think everyone is as treacherous as you, inferior being?" said Temo, who overheard Zhang Bao'er since Zhang Bao'er had spoken too loudly.

Zhang Bao'er appeared awkward, but he was able to quickly straighten his face.

"Get ready, I'm opening the door," said Temo.

Once again, I saw Anxashe aim his arrow at Temo as a precaution in case of traps. The others also raised their guns, preparing themselves just in case beasts started flooding in after the door was opened.

Like the previous door, Temo only needed to press his palms against the door's surface to activate the genetic lock. Green currents rippled through the door, and a gap opened with a slight creak.

Purple light could be seen coming from the other side of the door. Everyone grew nervous, and we aimed all our weapons at the door. Temo had a look of derision when he noticed our nervous expressions. He calmly reached out to push the door open. Immediately, Anxashe rushed in front of Temo and stopped him. Then, with his bow and arrow raised, he looked through the gap.

"There seems to be a different warehouse on the other side. No beasts can be seen for now," said Anxashe after cautiously looking around.

I nodded at Anxashe. We then followed him into the purple warehouse. This warehouse was even larger than the previous building we were in. Purple sand was piled all over the warehouse. Some sort of ultraviolet ray was being shone upon the sand. The result was a peculiar fragrance that wafted about in the air.

"What is this? It smells like spice," said Dodo softly as they grabbed a handful of the soil to study it.

"Fool, the purple sand is used for soundproofing," said Temo.

"You're only piling the sand on the ground. How would that soundproof the warehouse?" asked Dodo. They had learned a lot on that day.

"This is a unique sand capable of absorbing sound waves. It contains an element we call silent. All sound waves will be gradually absorbed when they touch this element. Thus, no sound can be transmitted further than 10 meters away," said Temo.

"Can the wireless transmission of noise be blocked as well?" asked Old Du.

"Anything resembling sound waves traveling through the air will be absorbed, apart from light waves," said Temo.

I then walked 10 meters away from the door. Sure enough, the loud noise from the energy installation in the previous room could no longer be heard. I tried to contact Zhang Bao'er with my communicator, but my communicator remained silent. Zhang Bao'er also gestured at me that he couldn't hear anything.

"This purple sand is too magical. It can actually stop the transmission of sound waves through the air," I exclaimed in wonder.

Suddenly, I noticed Zhang Bao'er scoop some of the sand into his backpack.

'Looks like Bao'er still has his bad habit,' I thought, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

The others started walking toward me. They were prepared to leave this warehouse.

"Bao'er," I called out when Zhang Bao'er walked past me.

"Yes, Canyue?" asked Zhang Bao'er as he stopped.

"Bao'er, this sand is capable of absorbing electromagnetic waves. I believe it has quite a high level of radiation as well. Would you harm yourself carrying it on you?" I asked.

A look of realization appeared on Zhang Bao'er's face as he hurriedly scooped the sand out of his backpack.

"One shall never covet ill-gotten gains," muttered Zhang Bao'er.

"Canyue, come take a look," said Anxashe, who had just returned from scouting the area.
