Interstellar Survival: Invasion

Chapter 255: Will Subjugation

Chapter 255: Will Subjugation

Suddenly, an astonishing scene appeared before us. The variance sensor beast, who had raised its limbs high, suddenly twitched and dropped. Seeing that the beast had fallen, Anxashe lowered his bow and arrow.

"What happened? Who helped Dodo?" asked Zhang Bao'er in excitement.

However, all of us were looking at each other. Nobody had claimed credit. I saw Dodo move one of their arms and push themself up. Their head was bent at an odd angle due to the impact, but Dodo still stubbornly remained on its feet. Beside Dodo lay the variance sensor beast who was panting heavily. It did not look like the beast was going to be getting back on its feet.

"My god. Dodo did it? Dodo actually won?" Zhang Bao'er jumped in excitement. A disturbance spread through the variance sensor beasts around us as they started communicating among themselves.

"How is that possible? What happened? Who caused the variance sensor beast to fall?" asked Old Du doubtfully.

"It was an internal injury flaring up. I believe Dodo's previous attack had delivered serious injuries to the beast. Its intense movement when attacking Dodo had caused the internal injuries to worsen, killing itself," I analyzed.

"I don't think so. The variance sensor beasts are constantly fighting. It is impossible for one to suddenly die from internal injuries. There must be a different reason for its internal injuries to suddenly erupt," said Temo.

"What would be the cause, then?" I started seriously thinking about it.

Immediately, a disgusting scene unfolded. The variance sensor beast had yet to fully die, but the surrounding small beasts were starting to cautiously step forth, trying to eat the injured beast. Even odder was the fact that the surrounding variance sensor beasts weren't trying to help their companion. Not a single one of them bothered to help.

"They're eating each other? These beasts are too disgusting. The variance sensor beast is being eaten alive. This is a world of beasts," said Zhang Bao'er.

While everyone was still in shock, Anxashe moved out to bring Dodo back to us. They were greatly damaged, but their internal thought processes seemed to still work properly.

"Dodo, how are you feeling?" I asked.

"Androids won't feel pain, but my line of sight seems to be off. It makes seeing difficult," replied Dodo. I was relieved to hear that.

Anxashe and Old Du worked together to restore Dodo's head to its original position. I turned around to take a look at the ongoing wild feast. A hole had formed on the variance sensor beast's belly, caused by the feasting small beasts. Even so, the beast still wasn't fully dead yet. It had a strange expression on its face as it was being eaten.

An oppressive howl suddenly rang out from the outer encirclement. The small beasts feasting on the variance sensor beast immediately ran back to their previous positions, as though they had been given a command.

"What's going on? Why aren't these small beasts continuing to eat? Is an even bigger guy coming?" asked Zhang Bao'er nervously.

"No. These small beasts are most likely helping the variance sensor beast recover by eating it," said Temo with a shake of his head, saying something that shocked us all.

I turned my head to give the variance sensor beast a better look. The parts that had been eaten by the small beasts were regrowing rapidly. The powerful regenerative ability that Temo had previously described was being displayed before us.

"Tt-th-these beasts can actually give up on their damaged organs to grow new ones? Won't they be basically immortal?" exclaimed Zhang Bao'er.

"Self-regeneration? Anyone capable of applying this ability to Blue's medical field will probably win a Nobel Prize for that contribution," said Dodo, sounding envious at the ability.

"Focus on restoring your own body first before thinking about anything else," said Old Du. He was still busy helping repair Dodo's damaged body.

In less than three minutes, the gravely injured variance sensor beast had fully recovered. It got back on its feet and stood before us like before. Seeing the recovered beast, we raised our weapons cautiously, fearful that it would take its revenge on us. However, the beast did not seem to care about the weapons in our hands. Once again, it moved its nose around, picking a new opponent from among us.

Pointing at the variance sensor beast, Zhang Bao'er scolded Temo, "Again? This fellow has already been defeated. This is against the rules. Are all the people from star-level civilizations sore losers?"

"Shut your mouth, inferior species. See what it's trying to do first," said Temo without holding anything back.

"That beast is obviously being shameless. Come on, bring it on. Do you have the guts to pick me? I'll snap that stupid nose from your face," shouted Zhang Bao'er.

The same scene repeated as the beast ignored Zhang Bao'er and moved its nose before stopping at me. My heart skipped a beat when I saw that I was its new target.

"Finally, it's not picking a weakling. However, it still picked the third weakest among us," said Zhang Bao'er with a sigh.

"What? Zhang Bao'er, so you believe that I'm only stronger than Dodo and Temo in the group?" I said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

Since I was already selected, I couldn't display any cowardice. I strode forward to meet the challenge. Surprisingly, something unexpected happened. As I was about to complete my first step, all the variance sensor beasts started roaring furiously. The sky itself shook from their deafening roars. Our ears ached, and I turned even more nervous.

"What is this? Are they cheering Canyue on? Are they touched by his performance?" asked Zhang Bao'er.

"It doesn't look like they are touched. More like they are angry," said Temo.

I immediately stopped my action, and with that, the roars stopped. But I found to my astonishment that the variance sensor beast was still pointing at me.

"But it is still choosing me as its target," I said to Temo.

"Weird. This is not possible. Wait. Do you have something on you?" asked Temo with a look of realization.

That reminded me as I hurriedly took my backpack off my back. When I opened it, Bulu's body was revealed before my eyes. One-third of its body was shining red, looking like it was on the verge of waking up. I carefully carried Bulu out of the bag. The moment Bulu was revealed, the surrounding variance sensor beasts whimpered and collectively retreated several steps back.

"This is great! Looks like these beasts are afraid of Bulu!" Zhang Bao'er cried out in excitement.

"Where did this creature come from? Why do you have such a creature by your side?" asked Temo in shock.

"This is a pet we saved from a terrifying planet. Li Canyue and I have joint guardianship over this pet. What do you have in mind?" said Zhang Bao'er, bluffing without holding anything back.

"This creature's shape is too weird. This is impossible," muttered Temo, eyes fixed on Bulu.

"What's so weird about this shape? We know this shape as being jelly-like," Zhang Bao'er continued spouting nonsense from his mouth.

Surprisingly, Temo did not proceed to bicker with Zhang Bao'er this time. Rather, he stood silently in deep contemplation. An even more peculiar scene happened. The variance sensor beasts around us parted, opening a path for us to leave.

"Canyue, see, these beasts have conceded! They're even opening a path for us!" said Zhang Bao'er.

"Don't waste any time. It doesn't even matter why this is happening. Let's go before more surprises appear," said Old Du.

"Leave. We'll talk later," I gave the order unhesitatingly.

Behind me, Zhang Bao'er's voice rang out. "Hey, start walking. Why are you daydreaming here?"

Hearing the voice, I turned around and discovered that Temo was still standing in the same spot with the same posture. Seeing that, I realized something and lifted Bulu up. Sure enough, the substance within its body was flowing rapidly.

"Are they performing mind communication?" asked Dodo.

"Obviously. Let's wait a bit. See if Temo can bring us any new information later," I said, changing the order.

We all surrounded Temo, waiting for him to finish communicating with Bulu. About 10 minutes later, Temo looked up.

"How was the talk with my friend?" asked Zhang Bao'er impatiently.

"I finally have the answer for something that has been nagging me for a very long time. You are truly incredibly lucky to have a life form like this as your friend," said Temo, who couldn't help but gasp in amazement.

"Huh? Did you get yourself brainwashed by Bulu?" teased Zhang Bao'er.

"The powerful will of this little creature has subjugated these variance sensor beasts, forcefully changing their hunting rules. It was also the reason for the beast's defeat earlier," said Temo.

"What? You mean Bulu has been helping us since earlier?" asked Zhang Bao'er in astonishment.

"Commander, how have you subjugated this creature? This is a creature from an array-level civilization," asked Temo, ignoring Zhang Bao'er's question.
