Chapter 264: Taken to the emergency room

Ronald and Kristine sat in the car quietly with none having the courage to speak first. the ride to the town's amusement park was a quiet one as well.

''Do you really not mind?'' Kristine finally asked.

''No, I don't mind'' Ronald turned to look at her and she blushed.

''It was from an accident. I just got my driving licence that day and was happy to receive my first car from my father. I took it out for a spin and wanted to show it off to my friends. A truck crashed into my car''

''It must have been a scary accident. You did well''

''I have always been conscious of that scar because I don't like it myself. I don't have the confidence to show it to anyone''

''The scar is part of you. I don't know how you survived all these years trying to hide it but I hope that you should be comfortable around me. Don't think about anything else and just be yourself''

''Thank you''

''Let's go and have fun'' Ronald got down from the car and waited for her. When she got down and went to his side, he held her hand and they walked towards the amusement park.

Brenda packed her stuff to leave the office and heard Robyn asking from behind her, ''we are going to H Hospital to survey the area for their new Leukaemia Centre, remember to be here early or I will leave you behind. We don't want you saying I stole it from you again?''

''You don't have friends apart from Ronald, right?'' Brenda took her bag and turned to face him.

''I didn't know you were interested in my circle of friendship?''

''I am not interested in anything that has to do with you. I just think that the reason why you have just one friend is because you are so obnoxious. You don't have to wait for me. I will find my way there by myself''

''Okay'' Robyn stood up and picked his backpack.

''What are you doing?''

''Going home. You are going home, shouldn't I do the same?'' he asked and walked out and Brenda followed suit.

''Give me a ride home. I don't have a car'' he said, getting into Brenda's car.

''Have you gone crazy? Get out from my car''

''Give me a ride''

''Why should I give you a ride?''

''Because it's on the way'' Robyn relaxed on the seat and Brenda tried to push him out but noticed his body was hot.

''You why is your body so hot? Are you sick?'' she asked as her eyes travelled over his body.

''I think I'm coming down with a fever. I will be fine after I take some medicine'' Robyn said and coughed a little.

''Let me take you to the hospital, first'' Brenda started the car.

''No, just stop at any pharmacy on the way and get me some cold relieves. I will be fine after taking those''

''Your body is burning up. I can't just leave you home?''

''You seem like a different person. You speak with so much warmth''

''What?''

''I appreciate that you are worried but I will be fine''

''Whatever, suit yourself'' Brenda drove the car away.

A few minutes later, she saw a pharmacy shop and pulled over. She got down and ran inside to buy some fever and cold medicine. When she returned, she threw them at him and he chuckled.

''Tell me where you stay'' she said to him.

''Global estates, villa 0201''

''Global estates? That's an expensive neighbourhood. You must be rich''

''I am indeed rich but this isn't my place. That villa belongs to Ronald. I will move into mine a few weeks' time after the renovation is done''

''I see. Eat the medicine. You will feel better''

''You look so different when you are not hating on me? Should I thank my sickness or what? You and I are actually having a conversation without knocking each other out''

A few minutes later, he pulled into the neighbourhood and stopped just at the villa he gave her.

''Hey, we are here'' she turned to look at him.

''Oh, thank you'' Robyn got out of the car and felt his head spinning. He leaned back for a moment.

''Are you alright?'' Brenda unbuckled her seatbelt and got down, going over to his side. When she touched his head, she felt it was even hotter than before, so she said to him, ''sit back. We are going to the hospital''

''I said I will be fine. Stop fussing around. You don't even like me that much''

''And I don't want you to end up dying in my hands. We might not be friends but it doesn't mean I am heartless enough to leave you in this state and go'' Brenda ignored him and pushed him back into the car with all her strength before locking the door. She went to the driver's seat and drove out of the villa, going straight to the hospital.

She kept glancing at him worriedly as she drove towards he hospital. Sickness was something she dreaded the most. Anytime someone she knew was sick, she would feel as if she was the one in that person's shoes.

When she was little, she had a weak immune system which made her to always go to the emergency room every now and then. It was after she completed high school that her body started to get fit again and the strict diet plan she followed ensured that she was healthy. She and the girls were always cautious of what they ate, so they hardly bought food outside.

''Are you alright?'' she asked him. Robyn shook his head.

''I think I am really sick. My stomach hurts'' he touched his stomach and frowned.

''Hold on, we will be there soon. Do you have a family I can call apart from Ronald? Maybe a girlfriend or someone to come and take care of you?''

''Ronald is the only friend I have. I don't have a girlfriend''

''What? How old are you and you don't even have a girlfriend?'' Brenda found him ridiculous. A grown man who is also handsome and has money without a girlfriend was definitely something that new to her. ''Then, how about someone. Maybe a woman you'' she bit her tongue before asking, ''don't you even have a casual girlfriend that you call when you want to have sex or something?''

Robyn chuckled saying, 'you must see all men to be jerks, right? I don't sleep around for the record''

''Tsk, which man doesn't sleep around?'' Brenda curved into the hospital road.

'How many times did you get your heart broken for you to have such a dirty notion about men?''

'Enough to know that all you men want is sex and zero commitment'' Brenda pulled over and got down from the car. she went over to the other side and opened the door, helping Robyn out of the car. He held unto her waist and looked at her.

''There are still good men out there'' he said and groaned in pain.

'Stop talking about unnecessary things and let's go'' she didn't know why his words suddenly moved her. She wondered if there were indeed good men in the world. If there were; then why did the ones she met turn out to be such jerks?

Brenda shook her head; she couldn't allow herself to think too much into his words. They were nothing. The two of them were nothing but co-workers and people who hated each other. She tried to convince herself that she was doing her part of humanitarian service.

Even as Robyn was taken to the emergency room and she was told to wait outside, she still tried to convince herself that she was simply doing this for a co-worker. She would have done the same for anyone else.

Her phone rang bringing her back to her senses. She looked at the incoming call from Jenny and finally realised, she had been worried about Robyn that she completely forgot of informing the girls.

''Hello, Jenny. I'm sorry. I got caught up at work''

''It's everything alright? You weren't answering our calls. We got worried and almost went to your company to look for you''

''Don't worry. I'm fine. I will come home tomorrow morning, En, bye'' Brenda hung up and sat on the bench and sighed.

For the first time, she lied to the people closer to her. Why did she do that? She didn't understand what exactly she was doing and why she was going to such extents.

Back at the house, Jenny placed the phone down and turned to Chloe, ''she got caught up with work. She will come home tomorrow''

''Oh, wait. I hope she has eaten?'' Chloe looked at Jenny.

''I will ask her'' she took the phone and sent a message to Brenda and she replied a few seconds later, ''I asked her. She said she had something to eat''

''That's good then'' Chloe relaxed and ate her food.
