Chapter 270: Dealing with dirty men
Chapter 270: Dealing with dirty men
When Brenda entered the company building she saw Robyn chatting with their boss lady, Miss Bel in the waiting area. Pretending not to have seen them, she started to walk away until she heard her name and stopped.
''Brenda, come over here'' Miss Bel said and Brenda went over to them.
''Good morning, Miss Bel'' Brenda greeted and Miss Bel frowned.
''Am I the only one here?'' she asked her and Brenda turned to greet Robyn and he beat her to it saying.
''I don't need any insincere greetings. Miss Bel, I still have something to do inside'' he finished and walked away.
''Ah?'' Brenda chuckled sarcastically.
''What is wrong with the two of you?''
''Why are you asking me when he was the one who walked away?'' Brenda retorted as she looked at Robyn.
''How was it at the site? I heard you were alone; I hope those factory men didn't give you a hard time?''
''No, it was alright''
''Go inside, I have a meeting to attend. I won't be at the office today. I'm leaving it in you and Robyn's hands. Since nobody has to go to the field today, it might be a little chaotic''
''En, go and come'' Brenda smiled and watched Miss Bel leave with her secretary before she turned to go inside.
At the floor of the Bel Constructions.
Robyn pulled out his chair to sit and heard the three other architects chatting. He didn't pay attention to them until he heard one of them mentioned Brenda's name and he looked up.
'She is always acting tough, yesterday, the factory men gave her a hard time. Especially the head of the construction site. He said he could give her an instant promotion if she agreed to meet with him outside work'' one of them said.
''Does Brenda even have a boyfriend?'' another asked and the two laughed.
''She has lost intact with her feminine side. That woman has no feelings whatever''
''But, I can't deny the fact that she is hot. Those curves are to die for''
''That's right. I feel hard just by looking at her. If she wore any feminine dress apart from those baggy jeans and tops, half of the men in this building are going to fall for her''
''Maybe she has long forgotten of how to act like a woman. She thinks she is a man now, that's why is not good for women to go into construction work''
''She should dress more like a lady. once I saw her outside work with her three friends. You know those girls, right?''
''Yes, damn. Those girls are also beautiful, especially the one who is a little short. She is so cute''
Robyn sighed, feeling frustrated the more he looked at them. He looked towards the door and saw a silhouette behind it and cussed. Those booths were too familiar to him to not know its owner. He banged his book on the table and the men turned to look at him.
''Mr. Robyn is here?'' one of them said.
''Are you perverts? Does it give you so much joy to describe women as if they are mere objects?'' Robyn asked them. It was clear from his tone that he was angry.
''You misunderstand us, senior architect Robyn. We were merely expressing our opinions. We don't mean any harm'' one of them quickly explained.
''Merely expressing your opinion? By describing how she looks and even mentioning her friends?''
''Well''
''Listen to me. If you are tired of your jobs here, I can let you go home and rest for a while. After all, this company was established by a woman because men like you made things difficult for her. Does working in a construction industry make her different because she is a woman? Do you have to make such comparisons?''
''No need to get angry at us. We won't do that again?'' one of them who was the most arrogant among them said scornfully. He was also the one who joined the factory men to make things difficult for Brenda the day before.
''I thought you were just being men who enjoy talking about women but it turns out you are dirty as well?'' Brenda pushed the door opened and said to them. They all looked towards the door and saw her.
''What?'' the arrogant one asked as if he didn't hear her well enough.
''You pervert. You joined those men to make things difficult for me but I didn't say anything about it but now you are talking about me and my friends in such manner? You are all dogs, right?''
''Watch your words, Brenda. We won't hold back just because you are a woman'' the arrogant one said.
''What? A woman? Did you say I lost touch of my feminine side? Does it bother you so much that a woman is far ahead of you in work? Then, stop gossiping and work extra hard like I do''
''You crazy woman'' he stepped closer to Brenda and Robyn pulled Brenda to his side and stood in front of her.
''If you want to get to her, pass through me first'' he said sternly and the man stepped back. The other two held him back.
''Let it go, Marcus'' they held him back.
''Is she sleeping with you now? Is that why you are taking her side? When you came she hated you because you stole the promotion that was supposed to be hers'' the arrogant man called Marcus asked and Robyn held his collar and pulled him closer to himself.
'Say that one more time and you wouldn't even know when you or how you die. Do you hear me?'' Robyn warned him.
''Leave him alone. If you use your hand to touch dirt, you only end up making yourself dirty too'' Brenda removed Robyn's hands that held the man before turning to face the man saying, ''I don't care how you slander me but my sisters are my bottom line'' she slapped the man to the shock of everyone as she added, 'that is for talking about them like they are objects''
Brenda walked away to her seat leaving them alone. The man named Marcus fumed with anger as he glared at Brenda but there was nothing he could do as he couldn't bear to provoke Robyn. He was pulled away by his two friends to his desk before Robyn went to his desk which was closer to Brenda's.
When he sat down, he looked at Brenda for a while before turning his face away. When he did, Brenda also turned and looked at him for a short moment and looked away. The two didn't speak to each other again for the rest of the working hours that day.
When it was time to clock off, Brenda had unintentionally fallen asleep in the office while everyone left.
Robyn was about to leave when he noticed her sleeping and sat back. he looked at the weather outside from the window and realised it was going to start raining anytime soon. He sighed and removed his drench coat from behind his chair and went over to her desk. He covered her body with the coat and was about to turn and leave when she suddenly held his hand tightly and placed it under her head.
Robyn looked at her and chuckled, shaking his head. he squatted and looked at her. for a moment, her sleeping posture made him find her adorable. Unkind when she is not sleeping; she looked more relaxed. She was frowning or furrowing her brows. He subconsciously leaned closer to her face and smiled. Her face was so small, now that he was looking at her. she had pointed nose, brows looked thicker and her lips were full.
Looking at her lips, his Adam's apple throbbed up and down and he shook his head. he tried to take his hand away and she held it tightly and even mumbled in her sleep, ''stop moving. I will smack you if you move again, Jenny''
Robyn chuckled. He couldn't believe, she was thinking of him as one of her friends and was even going to smack him if he moved. Robyn felt that this was perhaps the most natural she has been since he knew her. So, this was how she was when she was with her friends? He thought and shook his head as he remembered the first time he got to the office and was introduced to her as her superior.
The first day he came to the office and saw her, he had felt that she was beautiful. He admitted he too had some kind of prejudice against her. He didn't believe someone as beautiful as her was capable of anything, he treated her harshly and always nit-picked on everything she did, but she would always fight back. If she felt that she was been mistreated, she would fight back and even demand for an apology from him. She was the first lady who really challenged him and passed all the little obstacles he placed on her way.
