Chapter 296: Compensation

D-City District Court.

Amber got down from her car and saw Brenda waiting outside the court building with Robyn and she walked to them.

''Sorry for coming late. There was huge traffic on the way'' she explained as she buttoned her suit.

''You are not so late. We are still waiting for my friends; they are almost here'' Brenda said to her.

''Right, I received call from the family lawyer of the Gold family. He said that instead of going to the court, we should give them a room for mediation and that they will do everything that we request of them'' Amber said and looked at Brenda. While she was about to leave her apartment, she had received a call from the family lawyer of the Gold.

''I told him to let me inform your first and get back to him''

Brenda looked at Robyn and he held her hand assuring her, ''speak freely, whatever you desire, I will fully support you''

''What do you suggest, Lawyer Amber? Do you think that the mediation will have the same effect on that man?''

''Well, it could have because we have the upper hand in this situation. It has its pros and cons. One of the advantage of mediation is that everything will be done our way. We will present out terms and they will have no choice but to comply. They are doing this because they don't want their shares to plummet any further. The video of Brew Gold attacking you has already spread all over the internet and a lot of their investors are already pulling out, so they are trying their best to salvage the situation''

''Then, in this case, what do you suggest I do?''

''Well, the goal was for him to go to admit to his crimes, apologise and pay the compensation for the mental stress you went through all these years. I already requested for them to pay you about $100 million dollars as compensation but there is also the risk of him going to prison when we send it to the court, when that happens, their company will be affected. But, the most important thing is that, we do not want the public to know more about the situation because your reputation is also at stack. Now that they are proposing a mediation, I think that we should take the opportunity but now I will be asking them to pay you $110 million dollars as compensation, a restraining order from him for the rest of his life and an apology''

''But, $110 million dollars sounds a little too much?''

''The $10, 000 dollars is my service money. Now that they want a mediation, they should learn a lesson from it''

'Whoa. You have my respect'' Brenda said.

''You are such a crude lawyer'' Robyn said to Amber and she laughed.

''Well, I learnt from the best''

Three cars pulled over and Jenny and the others got down from the cars.

''Hi'' Jenny said to Amber as she went over to hug her.

''Hi Jenny. Hi, Chloe, Kris'' Amber greeted them.

''Hi, Amber. Traffic was hell'' Chloe said.

''How do you feel, Brenda?'' Kristine asked.

The men moved aside and started chatting leaving the ladies alone.

''I feel better now. Lawyer Amber said something to me a moment ago'' Brenda started explaining the situation to the ladies.

''I will go and arrange a meeting with the judge first. I will call you when I'm done'' Amber said to them and excused herself.

As they stood in front of the building chatting, a convoy of five cars pulled over and the doors opened. Mrs. Gladia Gold got down first from the middle car followed by her brother and Brew Gold. He had been granted bill last night and was allowed to go home.

As soon as the men saw them, they went over and each stood next to his woman as they watched them.

Mrs. Gladia Gold walked closer to them and looked at Jenny and Kody, ''we meet again'' she said and turned to Kody, 'you see the kind of woman that you have chosen over your own family? When you get bored of playing with her, you can come back home''

''I am not playing with her. Jenny is my wife'' Kody held Jenny's hand.

''Right, cousin, you decided to betray the family and side with these sluts?'' Brew Gold said and Kody held his collar, pulling him up.

''Don't you dare say anything rude to my wife and her friends. if there is anyone who is trashy here, then that person is you''

''Kody, we are your family. Are you really going against us for these outsiders?'' Brew's father, who is Kody's uncle asked.

''Yes, and I am no longer a member of the Gold family so don't associate me with you anymore''

''Mr. Gold, we still have a mediation to make. Let's not make things worse'' the lawyer beside Brew Gold reminded him.

'You are only getting what you deserve. You destroyed my life and I am going to make sure you experience what I went through all these years'' Brenda said to Brew Gold.

Just then, Amber arrived after talking with the Judge. She looked at the tense atmosphere and chuckled, ''were you threatening my client by any means, Mr. Gold?'' she asked Brew Gold.

''No, Lawyer Amber. Have you talked to your client concerning the proposal that I offered?'' the lawyer of the Gold family asked.

''Yes, my client had agreed to it and we have made out request already. I will show it to you once we are inside''

''Let's go in then'' Mrs. Gladia Gold said irritably.

''I'm sorry but no family member is allowed to be inside the mediation room. It will only be the victim and the defendant along with the lawyers and the Judge. That is my first request'' Amber said and looked at Mrs. Gladia Gold with an unwavering gaze.

''What?'' Mrs. Gladia Gold chuckled.

''Ms. Gold, we will do as they want. This is also for Brew's good. I will make sure this doesn't escalate'' the lawyer agreed with Amber.

Gladia Gold looked at Amber for a while before accepting their request, ''alright''

''Let's go'' the lawyer said to Brew Gold and they walked away following Brenda and Amber.

''Let's talk alone, Kody'' Gladia Gold turned to Kody.

''I have nothing to say to you'' Kody replied and turned to Jenny, ''you didn't have anything to eat this morning. should we get something to eat while we wait for Brenda?'' he suggested and looked at the others.

''That is a good idea'' Ronald said and looked at Kristine.

''Chloe and I didn't have anything to eat either, so we are up for it'' Collins added.

''Kody, if you don't stay back and talk with me, I will make life difficult for her. You know I can do that much'' Gladia Gold threatened Kody.

''Kody, I will order something for you while we wait. Have a chat with aunt and come'' Jenny said and nodded her head calmly.

''You have just a few minutes to tell me what you want to'' Kody said to his mother.

Gladii Gold smiled as she watched Jenny walk away with the others. She turned to Kody and asked, ''you really want to not be associated with the Gold family, right?'' she asked.

''I thought I proved that already?''

''Hey, Kody. Don't talk to your mother with that tone'' Brew's father reprimanded Kody.

''Uncle, stay out of this. this is between my mother and me'' Kody said back.

''What? You have been brainwashed by that woman. You never spoke this way to me or your uncle before. Kody, that woman is a bad influence on you''

''No, she makes me a better person. She makes me want to be a better person. She makes me happy, so stop harassing her already or I won't sit back and watch''

''You now challenge and even threaten me right now. You were always so obedient and never disobeyed me but now you do that openly''

''I have never disobeyed you. You were the one who pushed me to the wall with your actions. Because of your blind support for Brew, he has become such a trashy person. The whole family is messed up and all you do is try to cover the mistakes of the family with money. Having no regard for human feelings''

Gladii Gold slapped Kody in a fit of anger and said to him, 'how dare you speak to me that way? I am your mother and because of that wrench, you even dare to insult your own family?''

''You slapped me? The truth must hurt a lot. I will take that as our parting farewell. I hope that you never contact me or my wife again. if you don't stay away from her and continue to harass and threaten her, I will report you to the police'' Kody said and turned walking away.

''Come back here, Kody'' Gladia Gold shouted at him but he didn't stop and walked on. She became even more infuriated.
