Chapter 28 - Sikong Changfeng Fainted With Anger!
Chapter 28 Sikong Changfeng Fainted With Anger!
As night fell, moonlight was shining brightly
Inside the City Lord’s Manor, study room
After days of tackling accumulated governmental affairs, Sikong Changfeng finally let out a long sigh of relief.
“Why hasn’t Qianluo, that little rascal, come back yet?”
Looking at the darkening sky outside, Sikong Changfeng couldn’t help but frown. Usually, his precious daughter would have returned by this hour.
What could be keeping her today? Could something have happened?
As this thought crossed his mind, Sikong Changfeng could no longer remain calm. He decided to send someone to search for his daughter immediately.
As soon as he stepped out of the study, he bumped into Elder Feng Yuan, who was hurrying towards him.
The sight of Feng Yuan gave Sikong Changfeng a bad premonition. Before he could say anything, Feng Yuan spoke up, his words leaving Sikong Changfeng utterly dumbfounded.
“Your subordinate failed to apprehend the agents of the Dark River before nightfall. Please, City Lord, punish me!”
Feng Yuan spoke with a face full of remorse, confessing his inability to find any suspicious individuals in the northern district despite a whole day of searching. He felt deeply ashamed and came to accept responsibility.
“The Dark River’s agents?”
“What are you talking about, Elder Feng?” Sikong Changfeng asked, bewildered. He couldn’t wrap his head around Feng Yuan’s words.
The elder had spent an entire day searching the northern district for agents of the Dark River?
Since when did the Dark River’s people show up?
Why didn’t I hear anything about it?
“Didn’t you instruct me to search for suspicious individuals in the northern district?”
Feng Yuan’s reaction caught Sikong Changfeng off guard. The elder looked at him with doubt.
“When did I say that? Did Qianluo tell you this?”
Sikong Changfeng’s gaze sharpened, and his heart was filled with a sinking realization.
So, that’s why I had been feeling uneasy all day. It seems like my dear daughter has orchestrated this elaborate distraction!
Redirecting Elder Feng Yuan away from the spiritual medicine vault was no coincidence. Sikong Changfeng could now guess exactly what her intentions were.
With this realization, Sikong Changfeng could no longer stay calm. Without another word to Feng Yuan, he rushed towards the spiritual medicine vault.
When he reached the vault, his daughter was nowhere in sight, and the door to the vault was slightly ajar.
Sikong Changfeng wasted no time. With a single kick, he flung the door open, only to find the vault in complete disarray—emptied of its precious contents.
Sikong Changfeng’s lips trembled with rage as he roared in fury, “Sikong Qianluo!”
…
Sikong Changfeng left the City Lord’s Manor, instructing his subordinates to search the city for his beloved daughter. Meanwhile, he himself hurried to Jiang Zhe’s residence.
At this point, all the spiritual herbs had likely been given to Jiang Zhe. Sikong Changfeng could only hope the man hadn’t gone far yet.
If Jiang Zhe had fled with the herbs, he’d have nowhere to cry over his loss.
Upon reaching the residence, Sikong Changfeng headed straight for Jiang Zhe’s quarters, only to be stopped midway by a young maidservant.
“Second City Lord, the Fourth City Lord left at noon today,” the maid informed.
“He said he would return in a few days and specifically asked me to let you know so you wouldn’t worry about him.”
“Worry about him?”
Sikong Changfeng’s face turned ashen with rage. Anger surged through him, and he spat out a mouthful of blood before collapsing unconscious.
“Second City Lord, are you okay?”
“Second City Lord, please don’t scare me!”
The young maid panicked, tears streaming down her face as she shook Sikong Changfeng in an attempt to wake him.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Someone, come quickly! The City Lord has fainted!”
…
The Next Day
A city-wide notice was issued by Sikong Changfeng:
“Wanted: Jiang Zhe, the Fourth City Lord!”
Sikong Changfeng even dispatched a team to the Song Kingdom to track down Jiang Zhe.
Anyone providing reliable information about Jiang Zhe’s whereabouts would be rewarded with ten thousand gold taels. They would also gain the favor of Snow Moon City and the opportunity to browse the City’s hidden archives, containing countless martial arts techniques.
The citizens, utterly perplexed by these actions, speculated among themselves.
“Just what is the City Lord doing?”
“What did the new Fourth City Lord do to infuriate Sikong Changfeng so much?”
“Maybe Jiang Zhe stole the City Lord’s wife?”
“But doesn’t the City Lord not have a wife?”
“His wife’s been gone for years. He’s never remarried, has he?”
“Maybe Jiang Zhe eloped with the young mistress, Sikong Qianluo?”
“That’s possible! Otherwise, why else would the City Lord be so furious? Everyone knows he dotes on his daughter!”
