Chapter 2 - Hell On Earth
In an urban area belonging to an underdeveloped city, inside one of the many houses, a young man suddenly opened his eyes as he arose from sleep
Standing up the young man looked around his apartment, which he hadn't seen in ages
'I'm back right?'
He walked up to the window and took a look outside, thee he saw cars passing by his apartment complex, with people moving about the street without a care in the world
'I'm really back!'
Taking a deep breath he suddenly yells loud enough for the entire building to hear
"I'm Finally FREE!"
After scaring some of the passersby and getting a bunch of weird unapproving looks he exhales with his arms on his waist, looking relieved that he got it out of his chest
Walking back he opened his closet and looked at himself in the door's mirror
The reflection showed a twenty-year-old young man with black hair that had a tinge of brown on its ends, green vibrant eyes were staring at its own lanky figure that looked to be starved
"Man even though I went back four years into the past I still look like a starved kitten"
He massaged his face a bit while making a few weird expressions, once he got used to his new, or rather, old face he looked around for his phone
"Man I remember buying the day before disaster struck, just to have it stop working like all the other electronic devices the next day"
After saying that he figured something out real quick
"Which means today is the day it starts? Perhaps I should have wished to be sent a little bit further back, then again anything could have happened if I took too long stating the demands"
He checked the time and then threw his phone on the bed, he donned his leather jacket and his black jeans and grabbed his wallet before heading out
Walked down the crowded street his head was constantly swiveling around, looking at every single thing around, one could even say he looked like a tourist visiting a sightseeing spot
"Ahh there you are"
Stopping in front of a food stall he took in the smell of the food before taking a seat
"One bowl with a little extra meat"
"Coming right up"
Once the bawl of soup was served the young man felt his mouth-watering, not holding himself back he dug in with fever
"Haha, you can sure eat young man"
"This is the best thing I've tasted in ages!"
He responded to the shop keepers praise between gulps, finishing the tasty meal in under a minute
"You sure look like you could fit a little bit more meat in that body of yours, how about another bawl?"
The young man looked like he wanted to agree but then he looked at the shop's clock, seeing it was already eight and fifteen minutes in the morning he reluctantly declined and left after paying the bill
"I got an hour and forty-five minutes to get to the 83rd road and make my preparations, the streets are jam-packed with cars as always, I'm better off going there on foot, I should be able to get there in time"
He started to move his feet quickly, making his way through the crowd without much difficulty, his footsteps were light and his speed was very fast, though he was walking it looked as if he was jogging
"Haa Haa, man I forgot how little effort I put into practicing when I was twenty"
He complained as his speed slowed down a notch, even though he barely walked two streets his body was already feeling tired, a feeling he wasn't used to for such a small task
Still, he was able to reach the 83rd street within forty-five minutes
Stopping by a few shop he asked around for a specific alley, which the locals were kind enough to point him toward
"These people are really nice, bummer their all gonna die"
He said as he walked away, everyone who heard him gave him a weird stare, hell even the people who pointed him to the place heard him making them stare agape at the weird fellow
He didn't look like he cared at all though, and he didn't, because those people would be dead bodies in a matter of hours
Walking down the alley he finely found his target, which was a fancy-looking house situated in a neat looking street
"This the place? Doesn't look too shabby"
He was about to ring the doorbell when the adjacent neighbors called for him
"Hey kid, are you here to see the Jasper's"
"Yup"
"Then you're out of luck, they just went to the mall down 83rd street"
"Sigh, just my luck, thanks old man"
"Sure, you can wait for them if you want, knowing them they will probably be here in an...?"
The neighbor was talking but he noticed the young man was already walking away without listening to him at all, making the old man throw quite the fit at today's disrespectful young adults
"What a shame, should I change my plans? Hmm no, that would mess everything up, I might have a chance to find them if I go there now, but that would mean it would start before I could meet up with them, hmm"
He contemplated for a while before coming up with a reasonable compromise, with his new plan in mind he swiftly headed toward the mall
Twenty minutes later the young man could be seen strolling the vicinity of the mall, but instead of going inside he was looking around the abandoned alleys instead
"Nah this one doesn't look like a spawn, neither does this one, hmm this one maybe? Yah this one should do"
Looking at a shabby alley he nodded to himself contently, then went into the mall, not in search of the Jasper's but toward an appliance store
"May I help you?"
"Yah, give me a fridge, the largest and heaviest one you have"
The salesman started to sweat a bit at the young man's blunt words but he guided him nonetheless
"This is our stores best full-size refrigerator, it features adjustable shelves and offer good storage space and comes with its own ice dispenser, it's-"
"How much?"
The young man interrupted after he tried pushing the fridge finding it pretty heavy
"Cough, it's seven hundred ninety-nine"
The young man opened his wallet but only found less than a hundred in it, then he looked around and saw a suited middle-aged man next to him, and without pausing, he reached into the man's rear pocket and took out his wallet
"Si-"
As the salesman was about to call out this criminal act a strong grip took ahold of his heart when the young man gave him a sidelong glance
The eyes didn't give him the feeling of a human being, no, it felt like he was staring into empty void, giving rise to instinctual fear
"Anything wrong?"
Asked the young man, breaking the man's trance and making him avoid eye contact
The salesman wanted to reply but he didn't know what to say, should he alarm the guards? Or keep quiet?
But he didn't have to dally as the young man made the decision for him
"Here is nine hundred, get the fridge packed up asap and hire a few people to lift it for me"
After handing the salesman the money he headed outside and waited
The salesman stood still for a few seconds before getting someone to pack the fridge up
"I shouldn't mess with people like him, no one saw what happened, it is none of my business"
Thus within ten minutes, the fridge was packed and ready to go
The young man got on the truck and guided it toward the alley before asking the workers to load it up the stairs
"We are going to go up using the outer stairs?"
"I think we should use the stairs inside, it might not fit through the doors of the rooftop"
The workers suggested, but seeing the young man pay them no mind and only looked at his watch they shrugged and brought the fridge up as instructed
"Put it next to the edge"
"What? Sir, this roof has really low walls, are you sure?"
"Yes, also lean it on the wall, here some extra for your hard work"
He said as he handed them some cash
The workers looked at each other worriedly, they felt like the man was up to something but they could only helplessly lean the fridge and get out of here as fast as they could before they were implicated with whatever the man wanted to do
"The truck took some time to get here, only five minutes left, sigh, no time for a smoothy sadly"
With only one minute left till ten, the young man lifted his head toward the sky, taking one last look at its blue beauty
"Shall we start round two?"
Rumble...
The earth started to shake slightly giving the people on the streets a little fright which soon turned into panic as the quaking intensified
Rumble! RUMBLE!
Many people screamed feeling the ground moving under their feet, cars started to crash into each other adding to the mayhem
But it wasn't this city alone that had suffered as the phenomenon had engulfed the entire world, going as far as causing the seas to rage unto a storm
Rumble...
Soon the rumbling subsided, causing people's beating hearts to slow back down, only to stop completely the next second
Crack...Crack, Crack
Looking up one could see the sky visibly cracking apart, revealing the dark space that lays beyond, bringing dread to all who saw it
Finally, the sky shattered and darkness descended bringing with it endless fear, but before it could cause any harm a new layer formed replacing the previously blue sky with its purple hue, protecting everyone on earth
The people felt like they were riding a roller coaster of emotions, one moment they are in fear for their lives, the next they are relieved, so this time they didn't dare assume anything and waited with bated breaths for any upcoming weird phenomenon
Their wait didn't last long as within minutes bloody screams replaced the silence, marking the start of the human race's hell on earth
....
In an abandoned alley, right after the new purple sky formed a faint yellow light illuminated the rather dim area, within the light one could see a vague silhouette of two rather large dogs forming, seconds later the light disappeared revealing two intimidating extra-large dogs with reddish-yellow fur
""Awooo-Ewu?""
The two dogs lifted their heads howling toward the sky at the same time only to see a large shadow blocking their view, and the shadow was getting closer at an alarming speed
Bang! "Wuu wu"
At the last moment, one of the dogs pushed the slightly smaller one away, causing it to get crushed fully under it while the other barely survived but not without suffering as two of its legs got crushed immobilizing it
"Damn, I was aiming to crush this one instead, why did that one have to be chivalrous and all"
The dog looked up and saw a lanky young man quickly heading down the stairs, once he was at the last one he jumped and landed in front of it
"Well I guess every dog has its day, and today is your's little guy"
