Chapter 58 Past Life Regret
"This VR Capsule is comfortable as I feel no stiffness in my body like I always do." Alex was amazed by the difference between his new and old VR capsules.
'Mother and Sophia should be done with their MRI Scan by this time.' Alex thought, looking at the time.
'Let's Check if Dr.Elmer sent me any message.' Alex checked his phone, and there was a message from Dr.Elmer, but the message was different than what he had expected.
//The Message//
[Your Sister's MRI Scan has an issue, and we need to discuss it.]
[Your Sister is safe.]
'He is saying that Sophia's MRI Scan showed a problem, but then he says she is safe?' Alex was confused for a moment but understanding what the doctor could mean by the message, he was relieved.
'Hopefully, Dr.Elmer found the problem, and there is enough time to save Sophia from going into a coma.'
Alex dearly hoped that Sophia's illness was in the early stage and could be treated or delayed for a long enough time until he acquired the technology of Health Pod from the galactic shop.
'I should meet and ask Dr.Elmer what he discovered wrong in the MRI Scan to understand the situation clearly.'
Alex took a shower, and after eating a makeshift sandwich he had made for breakfast, he left for the hospital to meet with Dr.Elmer.
-----------------
"Dr.Elmer, thank you for accepting my request," Alex said.
"You are welcome."
"I didn't tell your mother about your sister's MRI scan result because, after a bit of talk with her, I knew she wouldn't handle the news well."
"Your little sister is safe for the time being, but things could get very bad in the near future." Dr.Elmer said, giving Alex a big shock.
"Doctor, Can you please explain to me my sister's illness and what could be done to cure it fast and safely," Alex asked.
"Your Sister is experiencing a Rare Brain mutation that could turn terrible if not treated carefully."
"Your Sister's Brain activity is off the chart, and that is using a lot of energy, and when the energy she gets from eating food is not enough, you know what will happen?" Dr.Elmer asked.
"The Brain will shut down, and she will go into a deep coma," Alex mumbled as his previous life memories of his bedridden weak sister flashed before his eyes.
"This could happen and many more terrible things if your sister's condition is not handled carefully." Dr. Elmer's words snapped Alex back from his nightmares.
"Alex, are you alright?" Dr. Elmer asked.
"I am fine, so please tell me the treatment my sister needs," Alex asked, but his mind was thinking about the worst-case scenarios and making many plans to solve the issue in the fastest time possible.
'If things turn to worst, I will ask Alden Gedeon for help, and with his family influence, he could quickly get the technology of Health Pod.'
Alex was thinking of every possible way to help him save his sister's Life without considering the consequences his choices would have on his gaming life.
"Alex, drink some water and calm down." Dr. Elmer said as he pushed a glass of water toward Alex.
"Your sister is no real danger." Dr. Elmer seeing Alex not drinking water, again pushed the water glass toward him.
"Please tell me the positive side first and not everything that could go wrong and their consequences," Alex said after drinking the glass of water.
"Do you know your sister feels hungry all day even though she eats more daily food than she did a month ago?" Dr. Elmer questioned like he already knew the answer, and after seeing a head shake from Alex, he continued his explanation.
"Your sister's brain is developing as every human brain does for their whole life, but the problem is her brain is developing much faster than a normal human, which is also using way more energy than a normal human."
Dr. Elmer stopped explaining after seeing Alex raise his hand to ask a question.
"If my sister's body gets enough energy that her brain could use to develop, wouldn't that solve the problem?" Alex asked.
"If her body has enough energy, the brain would properly develop, and she would be in no danger, but at the current rate of her brain activity, she needs at least four thousand calories every day."
"If I am not wrong, then her brain activity will only increase, and she would need more energy, which could be impossible to get from just eating food." Dr. Elmer explained.
"I don't understand the problem as the high-energy food could easily solve it?" Alex asked, confused because there was technology present to produce food in a small portion but with a very high calorie count.
"The high-energy food could provide as many calories as one wants, but for the human body to get those calories, the food eaten needs to be digested and turned to the energy that body could freely use."
"Your sister is only ten years old, and even though her brain could use a lot of energy, did you consider what will happen to the rest of her body functions with digesting a crazy amount of energy-rich food every day?"
"If she is lucky at first, she will only gain a lot of weight very quickly, and as time goes on, her organs will start to get bigger and eventually start to fail and cause her to die a painful death."
Dr. Elmer's explanation caused Alex to get angry as he wanted to flip the table and beat the crap out of him, but he knew better not to do anything stupid.
"Dr. Elmer, I know you didn't invite me here to tell me the bad news about my sister's condition, so tell me how my sister could live without suffering pain," Alex asked.
"Please answer my questions first because it will determine the treatment your sister will get."
"Do you play the game because the best treatment would cost a lot of in-game currency?" Dr. Elmer asked.
'I was expecting the government to approach me because of the money I got in my account from the game, but I wasn't expecting to approach me like this.'
'He could be lying about Sophia's illness, but everything he said made sense, and I can't take any risk with her life.'
Alex knew his poor bank account getting such large money transactions would raise red flags, and with the government having access to bank data, they will eventually find out, but it was not a big problem that he could not handle.
"I play the game and doing well enough." Alex told the truth as he had already planned how to handle the government and benefit from it.
"Could you afford twenty thousand gold coins every month?" Dr. Elmer questioned, and after seeing Alex's head nod, he started explaining the treatment.
"The government has recently bought technology from the galactic store to make a miracle medicine that could increase a person's natural regeneration by a large margin."
"Earth technology is still not advanced enough to create that miracle medicine in large quantity, so the medicine is scarce right now, making it very expensive."
"What is the name of this Miracle medicine, and how will it help with my sister's condition," Alex asked to confirm his theory on miracle medicine.
"The Miracle medicine is called Life Serum."
"Alex, your sister needs to eat high-calorie food every day to provide enough energy for the development of her brain, and the use of Life Serum would prevent any side effects and help in the process of her brain development."
'Life Serum is legit as I bought it every two months in my previous life, hoping it could wake Sophia from her coma.'
'I didn't know that the government started producing Life Serum this early, and even the price is twenty times more than my previous life.'
'Then again, I only started buying the Life Serum treatment for Sophia after two years from now, so it's not surprising that it will be this expensive with the difficulty of producing it with today's technology.'
"How do I buy a Life Serum, and when does the treatment could get started?" Alex asked.
"Alex, you know about the [Golden Eagle] Guild? It is majority owned by the government, and to buy the Life Serum treatment, you should go to their guild house, and there you could buy the Life Serum treatment."
"After you complete the payment, the guild will inform the hospital, and your sister's treatment could get started." Dr. Elmer said.
"Dr. Elmer, Thanks for your help and for guiding me through this critical decision." Alex thanked Dr. Elmer for helping him resolve one of the greatest regrets of his previous life.
After discussing some details with Dr. Elmer, Alex left the hospital with mixed feelings as he was happy to find the cause of his sister's illness before it got worse but now even more eager to quickly get the technology of Health Pod.
