Chapter 70 First Companion Beast
'I think I should settle on buying a beast companion with low natural potential.' Alex thought after seeing the Diamond Horn Ibex cub selling for a whopping 520K Gold coins.
'These people are more desperate than I thought, and if I didn't get a beast in the first half, my chances to acquire the ones at the end would be zero.'
Alex knew that if a non-carnivorous beast cub like Diamond Horn Ibex could sell for 520K gold coins, then his chances to buy a flying category beast companion would be close to zero with his current funds.
After the first beast cub, three more came with similar natural potential, and without fail, all sold for more than half a million gold coins, two being bought by players and the other by NPCs Nobles.
"Ladies and gentlemen, The next four beast companions will belong to flying-type beasts, but all four of them are special," Cedric said as two guards entered the hall with a cage with no cloth hiding the bird fledgling inside the comfy cage.
'I will be taking this money burner.' Alex thought after seeing the bird fledgling inside the cage.
----------------
[Poisonous Vulture] (Rare Elite)
Nature: Tameable
Condition: Hungry
Description: A Poison Vulture innate born predator with deadly poison running through its blood with the natural potential to reach Peak Third Rank.
----------------
The Poisonous Vulture fledgling looked beautiful with dark green soft feathers covering its little body, making it resemble any beautiful bird, but Alex knew what this cute little thing would turn into when it reached adulthood.
Alex had seen the adult version of this thing, and it was hands down one of the creepy birds he had seen in his previous life.
A fully grown Rank Three Poisonous Vulture had a wingspan of close to twenty meters and could travel at a breakneck speed, and with its poisonous beak and claws, it was a vicious predator that hunted its prey with speed and its deadly poison.
A Rank three Poisonous Vulture was a treasured beast companion if it reached its full potential, but even in Alex's previous life, he had only seen a few players with a peak Rank three Poisonous Vulture as their beast companion.
It was an arduous task to raise a Poisonous Vulture as a beast companion because its diet only consisted of poisonous animals, and as its size grew, its apatite grew as well, making it a companion for only wealthy people.
The poisonous animal carcasses were already higher priced than normal monster carcasses, which made raising a Poisonous Vulture a money-burning task.
'This little thing will turn into a creepy dinosaur when it reaches adulthood, but it could provide me with many advantages, so it is worth buying at the price of one million.'
The flying-type beast companions were more expensive than ordinary beasts, and as this Vulture was one of the best among the flying-type beasts, its price was also close to double compared to normal beasts with Third Rank natural potential.
Alex knew that all the rich participants would not bid after the price reached 1 million gold coins because they were all saving their funds for the last four companion beasts.
Before making any bids, Alex decided to wait and see how many participants were interested in buying this money-burning giant.
"This little emerald fledgling bird is one of the fastest and deadliest predators on the same strength level, and it also has the potential to reach the first high Rank with its natural talent."
Cedric started explaining more information on Poisonous Vulture that Alex already knew, and he could see that Cedric was trying to hide the drawbacks of having a Poisonous Vulture as a beast companion.
'He doesn't act like an auctioneer, but he knows how to sell the item for the maximum price.' Alex thought, seeing Cedric explaining only the best things about having a Poisonous Vulture as a beast companion.
"The Poisonous Vulture fledgling base price is 100K Gold Coins, and the Minimum Bid Increment is 10K Gold coins," Cedric said after convincing all the poor nobles that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
'I can try to buy this, but 1 million gold coins would not be enough.' Alex thought, seeing all the nobles without actual information on Poisonous Vultures bidding as if their lives depended on it.
'If I bid aggressively, my chances should increase, and maybe I could get my first beast companion at a little over one million gold coins.' Alex decided to use his image to get the Vulture.
Alex quickly thought of a plan, knowing this could be his last chance to get a beast with good potential with his current funds, and if he couldn't get one from this auction, then he would need to delay some of his plans.
Alex was so hell-bent on buying a flying beast because he had many plans after acquiring his legacy, most of which involved high-danger places that required a flying mount to reach.
"Please start the bidding," Cedric said, and immediately all the nobles started raising their hand, showing their interest in buying the Poisonous Vulture.
Alex didn't place any bid and waited patiently for the beginning crowd to lessen, and after a few minutes, the starting sixty participants dwindled to only eleven.
'I will need to spend a little over one million.' Alex thought as he raised his hand, raising the current bid to 550K Gold coins.
After Alex raised the bid, a few participants took notice, but they did not react and focused back on Cedric, who was calmly announcing the current bids.
Alex kept increasing the bid after anyone else raised the bid, and just as he had planned, the eleven enthusiastic participants turned to only two after the price reached 860K gold coins.
'The aggressive bidding worked like a charm.' Alex thought as he raised his hand to increase the bid to 940K gold coins before Cedric could even announce the newly increased bid.
The two remaining bidders were both players with the noble title of Viscount, and just as Alex hoped, both player didn't increase the bid, and after a few seconds, Cedric announced Alex as the winner.
"Congratulations, Earl Hidden One, on buying the Poisonous Vulture as your companion beast," Cedric said with a bright smile as two guards came and took the Vulture cage away from the stage.
'I spent most of my wealth, but I got what I wanted.' Alex thought as he relaxed on his comfy sofa, not interested in any other following companion beasts.
After Alex bought the Poisonous Vulture, the auction continued smoothly, and, as Cedric said, seven more companions beast got auctioned.
The last of these seven companions beasts was a golden eagle with the natural potential to reach Rank four, and as Alex expected, Marquess Asdar bought it at the price of six million gold coins.
After the auction concluded, Alex followed Cedric's instructions and paid the price of his purchased item, and without wasting any time, he left the auction with a costly set of knives and a small hungry green Vulture fledgling.
-------------
'I should choose a good name for him, but I can't think of anything good right now, so let's make a blood contract to make him my first beast companion.'
Alex was sitting in a new hotel room he rented to make the blood contract as he couldn't carry a Poisonous Vulture iron cage with him through the city.
"SHHRRIIEEKKKKK" Vulture sound.
"I know you are hungry, but you must wait for some time, and then you could eat the best meal of your life," Alex said, looking at the innocent Vulture fledgling sitting on the bed.
'Let's complete the contract and go to the black market to acquire the last [SS] Rank legacy and final piece of monarch tomb key.' Alex thought as he took out one of the Space Phantom knives from his inventory.
'Now that I have this throwing knife in my hand, I don't see any aura like the space-distorting knife from my memory.'
'Who cares if they are real or fake? I will find out eventually as now they belong to me.' Alex thought as he used the knife to cut his palm.
'At least it is sharper than it looks.'
Alex used his blood and mana to start drawing an intricate magic circle on the room floor, which he would need to complete the blood contract with Vulture fledgling.
The person who wants to make a blood contract with a beast would need to draw the contract magic circle using his own blood and mana.
The blood contract uses the user's blood and mana to place a seal on the beast's core which, over time, slowly changes the beast's natural mentality and makes him recognize the contract owner as his absolute master.
"I think I need to practice drawing mana circles, but this contract circle should do the job ." Alex thought, looking at the messy contract circle he drew.
"Little buddy, in a few seconds, we will become lifelong companions, and don't worry, I will treat you with the best treatment possible," Alex said as he picked the small Vulture fledgling and placed him in the center of the contract magic circle.
