Chapter 1291 Fortifying Foundations (2)
Whoosh!
With most of his attention focused on the abstruse pattern in his mind, Valyr eventually began to feel the newly purified mana course throughout certain parts of his body.
"Ngh…" Feeling a stinging type of pain from having mana circulate in those areas, the young man did his best to ignore the pain, gritting his teeth as he briefly recalled the general process the Records took to improve his species.
'The first stage reforms the neural pathways, the second reforms the bone marrow, and the third reforms the brain.'
'If my earlier thoughts are correct, then I'd be able to ascend my species by an intermediate stage once I complete the second one,' thought Valyr to himself as he felt the pain he was experiencing gradually subside.
'However, the reason I was able to ascend on the second stage back then was because I had three sets of energies working together to do the same thing.'
'On the other hand, I only have mana at 1st Cleansing doing that same job for me here.'
Coming to that thought, the young man inwardly let out a sigh, only to then let out a pain-filled moan as a wave of stinging pain erupted from his body once more.
'…Well, it seems like the Records are working at the very least.'
With that piece of good news acting as his anchor, Valyr continued to endure the waves of pain that washed over his body every once in a while, eventually finding out that distracting himself with various thoughts was the best way to do so.
Though, once he found out that there was a high chance for the process to fail if he were to distract himself too much, the young man swiftly changed gears, continuously exchanging his thoughts between focusing on the process and distracting himself from the pain.
Because of that decision, although the young man was able to experience less pain than before, the process took far longer than before to complete.
Nevertheless, by the time 6 hours had passed on the system's timer, a series of notifications soon echoed from the system, allowing Valyr to let out a wide sigh of relief as he felt a bit more strength course throughout his body.
Ding!
[You have completed the 1st Stage of the Records of Unfettering and Transcending Races.]
[You have obtained the passive skill 'Records of Unfettering and Transcending Races — 1st Stage'.]
[Your current species has made considerable progress in reaching a higher realm.]
Briefly checking on the notifications he received from the system, the young man then realized that it was already after midnight back on Earth, prompting him to leave Greater Beyond after that without hesitation.
Whoosh! n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Slowly getting out of his gaming pod, Valyr was immediately hit with a wave of exhaustion the moment he stood up.
Feeling like his entire body would shut down at any second, the young man decided to forgo his usual routine for the meantime and instead headed straight to bed.
'Hopefully, the second stage of the Records is enough to ascend my species,' thought the young man as the warmth of his blanket enveloped him, causing him to drift off into slumber not even a few minutes later.
…
"…Well, shit."
Opening his eyes to a series of notifications echoing from the system, Valyr began to frown rather than smile as he asked the system to show him the notifications he received.
Ding!
[You have completed the 2nd Stage of the Records of Unfettering and Transcending Races.]
[Your passive skill 'Records of Unfettering and Transcending Races — 1st Stage' has been upgraded to 'Records of Unfettering and Transcending Races — 2nd Stage'.]
[Your current species has made considerable progress in reaching a higher realm.]
"…Man." Reading through his notifications a couple of times to confirm that his eyes weren't messing with him, the young man soon let out a low sigh as reality began to sink in.
"I mean… it's not like I wasn't expecting this," murmured Valyr to himself after giving the current situation more thought. "After all, even though I'm far closer to ascending my species by an intermediate stage compared to the first time I used the Records, I only have one type of energy to use to power up the Records this time."
"…Should I attempt atavism, then?" asked Valyr to himself after some time, being reminded of the method Sellifer shared with him back then.
"After all, Sellifer told me that I'd have the greatest chances of succeeding my atavism if I was really close to ascending my species to the next tier."
Though, after pondering over the thought for a bit more, the young man eventually decided not to continue with his plan to undergo atavism for a number of reasons.
For one, from what he'd obtained through the packet of information Sellifer shared with him back then, he would have to go through a trial set by the universe itself if he wanted to succeed.
Although such a piece of information wasn't anything to think about at first glance, the fact that a good portion of those who attempted the trial of atavism died during the process definitely was.
After all, if those people already had a good chance of dying thanks to the trial, who said that a Level 10 player like him wouldn't share the same fate?
Aside from that, the other reason why he decided not to go with it was due to the fact that undergoing atavism would undo some of the racial shackles that stopped one's body from achieving their species' ultimate form.
Though Sellifer just casually mentioned that information to him back then, the young man only realized just now that it was an important piece of information he had to keep in mind if he ever wanted to undergo atavism.
After all, doing so might just jeopardize his ability to become a Primordial Human in the future.
'I should try and seek out the Atavists of Alkadran when I have the time.' With atavism having been put on the back burner once again, the young man went ahead and attempted the third stage of the Records.
Whoosh!
Considering the fact that the third stage involved the brain, as well as the fact that he'd yet to achieve it through his other identity, Valyr made sure to be as cautious as possible when he routed his mana towards where his brain resided.
"Ngah…!" Yet, no matter how gentle and careful he was while controlling his mana, the energy still moved on its own accord in the end, following the abstruse pattern given by the Records to reform and reinforce the brain that controlled his body.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
And thus, feeling as if he was having a cluster headache and a migraine at the same time, the young man was forced to grit his teeth throughout the entire process, suppressing the insatiable urge he had to bang his head onto the hardwood floor.
Fortunately, his brain swiftly transformed amidst the pain he was feeling, with parts of it beginning to take on the properties of the purified mana he used to complete the process.
Because of that, the indescribable pain he felt at the start gradually began to mellow down as more and more time passed. In fact, near the end of the process, he began to feel no pain from the process at all.
Rumble…
With that, just as Valyr was beginning to wonder when the transformation process to his brain would end, his body began to loudly rumble all of a sudden, prompting him to grin in excitement as he understood what was going on.
Ding!
Hearing a series of notifications echo in his mind after that, the young man did not hesitate to bring up the notifications in front of him, washing off the thin layer of gunk covering his entire body in the process.
Whoosh!
[You have completed the 3rd Stage of the Records of Unfettering and Transcending Races.]
[Your passive skill 'Records of Unfettering and Transcending Races — 2nd Stage' has been upgraded to 'Records of Unfettering and Transcending Races — 3rd Stage'.]
[Your current species has made significant progress in reaching a higher realm.]
[Your current species has broken through its racial shackles, ascending to a higher-tiered variant of the species recognized by the system.]
[Your current species 'Human' has been reclassified by the system as 'Reforged Mystic Human | Junior Defier of Fate'.]
"…"
"…Success."
