Chapter 848 Four Pillars: A Small Gamble
Chapter 848 Four Pillars: A Small Gamble
"Eh?"
Turning around to take a look at who was talking just now, Valyr's eyes widened in disbelief after seeing Sellifer hover before him.
"What are you doing here?"
As the question came to mind, the young man thought about how it should be impossible for someone like Sellifer to be talking with him through the packets of information she'd given him.
Though, just as the thought came to mind, he soon recalled his encounter with Sven back at the Gates of Awakening.
Although the man he fought against was only a memory fragment of the original Sven, he was able to freely converse with the man as if the actual person was there.
Realizing this, Valyr thought that perhaps the same principle was also happening this time around…
Only for Sellifer's earlier words to echo in his mind.
Seeing the confusion that covered the young man's face just moments after feeling disbelief, Sellifer let out amused laughter as she looked at the young man in the eye. n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Do remember that I'm a Lesser Goddess. Things you would take for granted don't apply to beings like me," said the woman after that, prompting the young man to nod as he went silent.
Closing his eyes for a bit to gather his thoughts, Valyr let out a long exhale before looking back at her. "Memory extension? Just like the ones in the Gates of Awakening?"
"Similar in principle, but simpler," replied Sellifer as she faintly shrugged her shoulders. "I cut off a very small part of my power and imbued it into the packets of information I gave you."
"Much easier than going through the hoops the Gates of Awakening would've made me do to achieve the same thing if you'd ask me."
Faintly nodding in response, Valyr went silent for a bit more before taking in a deep breath.
"Why?" He looked at Sellifer in the eyes once more, causing the latter to look back at him in slight confusion.
"What do you mean why?"
"This Concept Impartation thing," replied the young man, catching Sellifer off guard as her eyes widened in slight surprise.
"There's no reason for something like this, no?" asked Valyr not long after. "After all, I only accepted your inheritance for my own benefit."
"Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the help you've given me back when we were still on the barren grounds. If not for you, I probably would've taken far longer to obtain Azure Energy," clarified the young man after that.
"But that prompts me to ask once again… why sacrifice a chunk of your concepts to someone you've only known for a couple of years?"
"It's not like I'm your official disciple or student or anything." Saying these words, Valyr faintly shook his head.
As he asked these questions to the woman, the young man already had a faint idea of what the woman's intentions were by doing this.
However, he still wanted to hear it from her directly.
Thankfully, the other side delivered.
"You say that you're not officially my student, and with the arrangements the Gates of Awakening had done for the inheritance, that would be true." Sellifer nodded.
Though, not long after, she looked at the young man with a knowing smile. "However, that doesn't mean it has to stay that way, no?"
Ding!
At the very moment she said those words, a notification sound resounded within the young man's mind, prompting him to take a look at it.
[Due to your actions, you have obtained the title 'Inheritor of the Azure Path'.]
[Due to your actions, you have obtained the title 'Disciple of the Azure River Goddess'.]
Reading through the notifications he had gotten, Valyr was left speechless as he looked back at Sellifer, not knowing what to think about the woman.
In response to his reaction, Sellifer explained her intentions behind the Concept Impartation in greater detail.
To cut a long story short, the woman decided to do it as a small gamble of sorts, hoping that it would be enough to considerably speed up his progress on what was basically the most difficult part on the path to power.
Aside from that, she told Valyr that the decision to impart concepts onto him also had something to do with the Azure River Pantheon she founded, telling him that his talent and potential made him more than eligible to be the one to take over her position at some point.
Talking about the topic for a bit more after that, Valyr eventually asked about the titles, asking her whether she had just given it to him on a whim. In response, she said that she had actually planned on giving him the titles after he had successfully wrapped his head around the concept of Azure Energy, telling him that it was a small bonus to having inherited her path.
"I… might have overlooked that matter after you accidentally discovered the Azure Sign," said Sellifer with a wry smile. "After all, what you've discovered is basically the missing piece to making Azure Energy a more viable path to power."
Nodding in response, Valyr went silent for a bit as he went over the information Sellifer shared with him in his mind. "So, if I'm getting this correctly, you're imparting your concepts onto me in the hopes that I join your pantheon later down the line?"
"I would be lying if I said no," replied Sellifer. "Though, I would understand if you changed your mind in joining the pantheon later down the line. After all, you still have a long life ahead of you."
She shrugged her shoulders after that. "If that were the case, then I'd just think of it as another instance of me helping out the younger generation. May be a bit more than I would've normally done for anyone else from the younger generation, but nothing new."
"There might be a day where I might end up changing my mind," said Valyr in agreement. "However, I don't forget the goodwill given to me. I'll make sure to return the favor at some point."
"That's more than enough for now," replied Sellifer as she faintly smiled. "After all, we're never sure what the future has in store for us."
"Now… let's start this Concept Impartation, shall we?"
