Chapter 392: Ch.391 Lady of the Lake
Chapter 392: Ch.391 Lady of the Lake
Su Ming suddenly discovered a serious problem: the magic wands he looted from Nabu had changed.
Originally, they were covered with beautiful carvings, and adorned with gems the size of dove eggs, some even inlaid with gold and silver—very exquisite.
But now, all the gems were gone, leaving only bare wooden sticks, making Su Ming feel like he was carrying a bundle of firewood.
He took out a wand and looked at it. When he first got it, it was like something out of World of Warcraft, but now it suddenly looked like a realistic prop from Harry Potter.
This was too plain!
Even in Harry Potter, the wands were made of dragon heartstrings or phoenix feathers, but this was just plain wood.
Staring at the wands that looked like they'd been licked clean by a dog, Su Ming's eyes narrowed, and he knew exactly who the culprit was!
"Excuse me, everyone, I need to take care of something."
Without waiting for a response, Su Ming turned and walked into a dark alley.
What puzzled the others was that his cloak seemed to come alive, pulling in the opposite direction, resisting him.
However, the Cloak of Levitation's strength couldn't compare to that of the symbiote, and Stranglehold was firmly on the side of its host. The cloak was dragged into the alley...
When Su Ming came out of the alley again, nothing seemed visibly different, except that the cloak looked much shinier.
Su Ming couldn't do much to the Cloak of Levitation. As a magical artifact, it was essentially immune to most spells, and even his Godslayer weapon had no power over it.
Fortunately, he had Stranglehold. In the alley, he let the symbiote create a large mouth, licking the Cloak of Levitation up and down with a long tongue several times.
There was no real damage, but it was disgusting enough.
The cloak seemed utterly defeated, its color appearing visibly dull.
He couldn't let it keep eating random magic items. The wands were one thing, but what if it ate those silver beetle talismans? The souls inside those weren't very clean—having the cloak get sick wouldn't be ideal.
So, for now, he let Stranglehold keep an eye on the cloak to prevent it from rummaging through his bag, especially the Manhattan gemstones, which were extremely valuable.
The group regrouped, and Su Ming used the bare wands to get some ice cream. Though the wands had lost their magical power, the wood itself was still good quality material and held some value.
At the very least, it was enough to trade for food.
Donna licked her ice cream, the glowing material inside making her mouth shine. As she followed the others, she pondered Su Ming's behavior.
Sometimes, he could be so cold, but other times, he seemed so human. It was truly intriguing.
Bobo urgently led the group to a lake and began hopping around the shore, shouting a name.
"Vivienne! Vivienne!"
Arabella, eating her ice cream, also found the cold treat refreshing after the alcohol. "If I didn't know Bobo was calling someone, I'd think he had gone mad."
"This scene really does look like some kind of eldritch ritual—a chimpanzee summoning an unknown god by a lakeside," Su Ming added, mocking Bobo. "If you're calling someone, just call them. What's with all the dancing and hopping around?"
Perhaps the person in the lake found it too embarrassing, or for some other reason, the lake remained calm despite Bobo's gasping attempts. Their ice creams were nearly finished, yet the lake stayed as smooth as a mirror, with not a ripple in sight.
Bobo sighed, clearly not wanting to resort to what came next.
From his jacket pocket, he pulled out the Nightblade. The magical sword emitted a blinding light in Maia. At that moment, Bobo looked like a black-furred version of "Jedi Master Yoda."
With the enchanted sword in his hand, he pointed towards the lake.
"Vivienne, as ruler of Maia, I command you, come out and meet me at once."
Ripples formed on the lake surface, like a fountain bubbling up, and a woman emerged from beneath the water. Her figure was graceful, her eyes bright, and her wet golden hair clung to her curves, making her appear even more alluring.
However, her expression was one of displeasure, and her lips were pursed.
"Vivienne, at the behest of the ruler of Maia, the mighty Dark Master."
Her voice was pleasant, but the words made Bobo's brows twitch.
"Damn it, don't call me that."
"Then you shouldn't use the Nightblade to command me," the Lady of the Lake huffed, turning her head aside indignantly.
"I don't have time for arguments right now. We need your power of prophecy." Bobo sheathed the Nightblade. Seeing Vivienne's intention to leave immediately, he hastily shouted their purpose.
"My prophecy? It's not reliable at all. Whatever it shows always leads to misfortune. Both King Arthur and Lancelot proved that."
Vivienne shook her head in disappointment, refusing to divine anything.
Su Ming stepped forward, indicating that he wanted to speak. "That was all Morgan's doing; it had nothing to do with your prophecies. Right now, the magical realm is in crisis—no one can remain uninvolved."
"Maia is safe."
"It won't be for long. Hecate has returned and is trying to use her sorcery to take over the magic world. When that happens, Maia will no longer be your 'Avalon.'"
Su Ming directly laid out the harsh reality.
"Why don't you go find my sister? Her prophecy magic can see much farther."
"Because dark magic from beyond the Source Wall has come, and now all mages of the sorcery path have lost their magic. One wrong step and they'll die a terrible death." Su Ming gave the reason without any hesitation. "Now, the only magic we can rely on is from Heaven, Hell, and faerie magic from here."
Vivienne stepped onto the surface of the lake, pinching her chin as she thought over the situation.
She was the oldest of the three sisters, one of the Ageless, but she hadn't joined the Eternity Council.
Instead, after King Arthur's death, she came to Maia and had been living in seclusion ever since.
"Alright, I'll make an exception for the world. Tell me, what do you want to see?"
Su Ming glanced at Bobo, then at Donna. "Since you're already making an exception, make a few more. Help us see where Hecate is now, who the other two marked individuals are, and where they are, as well as Lex Luthor, Cheetah, and Grodd—"
"Stop! Stop!" Vivienne looked at Su Ming as if he were insane. "Do you think I'm God? This isn't heavenly magic—it's faerie divination. It requires the power of water elements, and it's impossible to see all of that in one go!"
Bobo nodded, confirming Vivienne's words.
Su Ming had hoped to squeeze the frog for all it was worth and solve all the mysteries at once. He didn't expect there to be so many limitations—what a hassle.
"Alright then, just help us locate the current holders of the Witch's Mark. After all, Hecate will definitely be after them."
Su Ming compromised, choosing what was most crucial for now.
As the lake's waters churned and rippled, specific images materialized, giving them the answers they sought.
