Chapter 22
Chapter 22: The Project Has Been Approved
“Barrett, go to the transfer housing complex and take charge of the renovation in the residential area. I will send people over to do the construction. You just need to take the order.”
“I got it.”
“Given the different requirements, the renovation price is between 3,000 to 5,000 yuan per square meter. After you receive the orders, please hand it over to the engineers.”
Smith gave Barrett another job.
“Okay boss. I’ll go now.”
Barrett heard the order and immediately turned around to leave.
Smith felt like there was some benefit in keeping him around although he seemed to have bad intentions. Smith had no idea.
Barrett wanted to get a set of cement and steel bars from the transfer house, but he could not break-in.
However, this time, he had help. Smith had sent people to assist with the renovation.
When the walls are smashed, there will definitely be debris.
The debris may be useless to ordinary people, but for investigators, they were of value. The cement and steel were of high grade.
It could be used to build military equipment in the future.
The equipment would then leave their enemies helpless.
When Barrett arrived at the transfer housing complex, he saw 500 all-rounded construction robot workers there.
“Hello everyone. I work with the developer of the transfer housing complex. I am the person in charge of the renovation. Those who want to renovate, come with me,” said Barrett in a loud tone.
Barrett made himself the person responsible for the renovation.
However, as the others were unaware of the situation, they all went to Barrett in a polite manner.
They handed him cigarettes and water.
They just wanted the renovation to be finished as soon as possible.
After a busy day, Barrett received 170 orders. However, they only started on 130 of them. The rest had to get in line.
When it was time to leave work, Barrett packed his things and walked around the renovated room.
“How long will it take for this room to be completed?” Barrett asked an all-purpose construction robot worker that was smashing a wall.
The worker glanced at Barrett and ignored him. He then continued to work.
Barrett was confused. What did it mean?
Was he looking down on him?
Forget it. Barrett could not be bothered.
There were so many workers here. There must be someone who would answer him eventually.
Barrett turned around and asked another worker who was renovating a room.
“Do you want a cigarette?”
Barrett took out a cigarette and handed it over to the worker.
The worker just glanced at Barrett before turning around to continue working.
Barrett did not understand what was going on. He could not get a response from any of them.
In a blink of an eye, Barrett walked past seven or eight rooms and found seven to eight workers to talk to.
In the end, they all just glanced at him. No one paid any attention to him.
Forget it. Barrett just endured it.
He decided not to try to speak to them anymore. He then went directly to the place where the debris was kept.
He was preparing to take some cement and steel bars.
“What are you doing?”
Barrett heard an angry voice coming from behind him.
Barrett was shocked. He turned around and saw that it was the same person who had ignored him previously.
So, they knew how to talk.
Barrett thought that all of them were mute.
“Didn’t I say I was curious? I just wanted to see what’s so special about this cement. Otherwise, why would it be so hard?”
As Barrett spoke, he stared at the worker’s face. He wanted to see his reaction.
However, Barrett was disappointed. The worker’s face was expressionless.
Did this worker undergo training?
Barrett was about to get over his disappointment when the worker finally showed an expression.
But what did this expression mean?
He felt like he was angry with himself.
Barrett was about to lose his mind. Just as he felt like he was going to fight the worker, the worker turned to leave after pouring all the debris.
“All of you, just you wait. When I find out what your problem is, I’ll put all of you in jail!”
Barrett said in his heart.
He took samples of the cement and steel bars and left.
He returned to the investigator’s office and handed the two materials to the research lab. The research lab would then research and reverse-engineer the materials.
The meeting room was filled with people when Barrett arrived.
“Did you get the samples?” asked the leader.
“I got it,” Barrett replied.
“Good, did you see the construction team? What tools did they use to carry out the construction?” the leader continued to ask.
“I did see them. I went to take a look, but I didn’t find anything unusual. They used very simple tools, such as hammers.”
“How was this possible?”
The leader was shocked. The door could not be opened with explosives, but it could be opened with a hammer?
What was going on?
“Alright, since everyone is here, let me tell you about today’s meeting objectives.”
“It’s time to determine the current situation surrounding the target. The government is still waiting for our approval.”
After Barrett sat down, the leader continued to speak.
George’s transfer housing project and the low-cost housing project all required the approval of the investigators. This was because the projects involved Smith.
After all, Smith’s abilities were too special. The buildings that he built had all sorts of strange attributes.
Therefore, the investigators still needed to evaluate him.
If the investigators determined that Smith was detrimental to society, then George’s project would not be launched.
Any issues about national security were not to be overlooked.
“Leader, I would like to report his working and resting conditions.”
“According to my investigation, he doesn’t seem to have any bad habits.”
“He is optimistic and cheerful, and he is often himself”.
“According to my investigation, he has no intention of participating in politics. He also has no intention of emigrating, and has no anti-human tendencies,” stated Eve.
After Eve finished speaking, the others began to chime in.
“The target has good values. He has no intention of evading taxes and is friendly to people. However, he does not think much of Barrett.”
After the leader assessed their opinions, they came to the conclusion that Smith was a good person.
In that case, the government project could be approved, and Smith was allowed to participate in the project.
