"Sorry…" Young Master Nan scratched his head sheepishly. "I heard from the nurses that last night, there was a serial killer running around! What if he comes to my room and demands money from my dad?! Hell, I am so scared that I don't even dare to close my eyes!"

"So," Xu Binchen pinched his brows, exasperated. "You sneaked into a girl's room, at 2 am in the morning, just because you're scared? Don't you realize that she will be more scared than you?!"

Nan Xukun: "…Right. I didn't think of that. I am sorry. Sorry, Shi Nian. Sorry, Detective Xu. Did I really scare the both of you?"

Xu Binchen sneered. "Oh, yes, I am really scared to death! How do you want to compensate me?"

Nan Xukun: "…"

Shi Nian: "…" Liar, why couldn't she find the traces of fear in this man who was slouching on the couch with both of his arms spread wide?

The sight of him gawking at Nan Xukun as if he was an exotic animal made Shi Nian giggle in amusement. Now that she thought about it, she felt ridiculous for being all paranoid.

Nan Xukun's eyes brightened. "You're not mad at me right, little meimei?"

"Little. Mei. Mei?" Xu Binchen stressed down each word, his tone dark.

"She's obviously younger than me so what's wrong with me calling her little meimei?"

Faced with Nan Xukun's clear and purely confused eyes, Xu Binchen raised his hands in surrender. He flopped down into the couch and closed his eyes tiredly. "Sleep, let's just sleep."

Nan Xukun looked at the bed which was occupied by Shi Nian and the couch which was dominated by Xu Binchen. Chuckling dryly, he asked. "Where do I sleep?"

Xu Binchen roared angrily. "Just sleep on the floor!"

Thus, with the power of money, Young Master Nan managed to order the nurse to bring him a makeshift bed. Finally, the three people settled in Shi Nian's room. Shi Nian's room wasn't small, after all, it was a single patient room with personal bathroom inside. There was even a couch with a low table for multiple uses.

But then, with the addition of Young Master Nan's bed, it became strangely cramped. It was such a weird combination with Shi Nian in the middle, Xu Binchen near the door and Nan Xukun on the inside. With two men in the room, Shi Nian slept restlessly and woke up before dawn with panda eyes.

The sun hadn't even risen yet and there was only a burst of purplish blue mixed with splashes of oranges in the sky.

Nan Xukun snored softly. He slept so deeply, so well behaved. Both of his arms were placed atop of his chest with his ten fingers intertwined together and his body was straight and neat. He only needed a white cloth to cover his head to become a corpse in the morgue.

Shi Nian got out of bed gingerly. She didn't make any sound but Xu Binchen still roused from his sleep. With a voice thick with drowsiness, he called out. "Shi Nian?"

The deep, low and raspy voice of a male filled with pheromones in the morning was a lethal attack. Shi Nian's heart skipped a beat. Uncle detective's voice was so nice and gentle in the morning, if it was made into a ringtone and sold, then it would definitely make a fortune.

Xu Binchen cracked his eyes open and Shi Nian pointed at the bathroom. Then, realizing her intention, he grunted softly and returned to sleep.

Shi Nian went to empty her bladder, washed her face and returned to the bed. But because she couldn't sleep any longer, she grabbed her phone and went out of her room. The morning air was so misty and humid that even a deep breath was enough to chill her lungs.

The nurse that had just arrived on her morning shift was surprised to see her outside. "Shi Nian?" She called out softly. "What's wrong?"

Shi Nian shook her head with a smile and typed on the phone. [Nothing wrong. I just can't sleep.]

"The morning is so cold. Make sure to wear more clothes and don't catch a cold." The kind hearted nurse went to get her a cup of warm water. Shi Nian thanked her and strode into the floor to ceiling window as she wrapped her palms around the cup, intending to watch the sunrise.

She shuddered and sneezed softly.

Hearing her sneeze, someone turned around. A man in wheelchair who had been looking out of the window since God-knows-when.

Jiang Jinyan.

Their gazes met in midair and both showed a shocked expression. Jiang Jinyan was the first to recover, his facial features returned to its usual placid calmness, then he gestured for her to go on as he pushed his wheelchair away.

Shi Nian recovered from her stupor and blocked his way. Meeting with the man's deep, confused eyes, she blushed in embarrassment. What to do? She had shown him such a miserable state of hers, it was so mortifying, so embarrassing that she wanted to crawl away and hide.

But her principle didn't allow her to do so. If there wasn't Jiang Jinyan that night, then she didn't know whether she would be able to escape alive.

[Thank you very much for that night.] She showed her phone screen to him.

Jiang Jinyan nodded politely. "It's what I should do. Are you okay, Miss Shi? Last night, I heard someone screaming."

She shook her head hard and typed furiously. [It's not me!] If Jiang Jinyan thought that it was her who was shrieking like a pig, where would she put her face?!

"I know." A hint of amusement flashed through his eyes. He pointed at his mouth, "After all…" After all, you can't speak. He didn't say it but somehow, Shi Nian could understand what he was going to say.

The blush on her cheeks went deeper.

Aaaaah! Why?! Why did her IQ always turn negative when she's in front of him?!

Jiang Jinyan didn't point out her silliness and smiled softly. "Then I will return to my room. Be careful with your safety, Miss Shi." The man's eyes turned serious and earnest and it warmed Shi Nian's heart.

Her nose turned sour. In this world, they were practically strangers but Jiang Jinyan was so polite, considerate and warm. How could there be such a perfect man like him?

She nodded her head like chicken pecking rice, exceedingly obedient and well behaved. Cladded in a hospital gown, her figure looked so thin and soft as if she could be blown away along with the wind. Her golden eyes were like a pair of glassy gems, watery and tender, shining so bright as she caught sight of him. Just like a pair of morning sun that was enveloped by the warm airy clouds.

Jiang Jinyan returned to his room in a much better mood. Whoever met such a sensible and obedient girl would be softhearted. Even though they had no relation with each other, but based on how the girl treated him so nicely, so politely with the appropriate distance that made him comfortable, he didn't regret stretching his hand toward her that night.

Other than Wei Xiameng, this was the first time that Jiang Jinyan could communicate with a girl so comfortably.

Shi Nian looked at his back until he disappeared around the corner, her smile so foolish and silly.

Come to think of it, Jiang Jinyan was just one year older than Nan Xukun but both of them were akin to soft moonlight and stinky soil. Jiang Jinyan was so mature, so graceful and handsome while Nan Xukun was so unruly and wild, he was too enthusiastic even with strangers that it would make people uncomfortable.

As she expected, her General was really the best!
