Chapter 10 10. Dinner With Stepmother.
"Yes, I think the Lady should be asleep in her chambers, while Mister Drake is likely out at the moment. Should I inform her of your arrival when she wakes up?"
"Yes, please do so. Um? Who's Mister Drake?"
[Umu. I find him suspicious as well.]
'No one asked you.' Kevin retorted.
"Ah! Yes. He's the lady's younger brother, who recently moved in." Dahlia responded.
"Oh, I see. I'll be on my way then."
"Okay, young master. If you need anything, do not hesitate to inform me." Dahlia made a final bow, her chest moving with even the slightest of movements.
[I like her. How about we make her your first woman?]
Kevin didn't reply to the parasite. He was now accustomed to the parasite's frequent jests.
He ascended the stairs that led to his room, and the moment he stepped into his room, he dropped his bag on the floor and laid face down on his bed.
Just like the system had said a while ago, today had been the most hectic day he had ever experienced in his life and it still wasn't over.
All he wanted to do was sleep the rest of the day away without worrying about anything else.
As for food and any other matter, he would eat later tonight once he woke up.
'I wonder why Dad allowed a maid as young as Dahlia to wear such a short dress in his house. Her huge knockers were also practically begging to be groped. Oh well, it's nice to see that the house remained exactly the way I left it three years ago.'
Kevin slowly closed his eyes as he drifted off to sleep.
[Wakey, wakey, sleepy head. You just missed your stepmother.]
"Huh? What?" Kevin groaned while rising from his bed.
[It's evening already. Your stepmother was knocking on your door just a few seconds ago. Don't you think it's time you get your lazy ass up,]
Kevin groaned in response to the system's words.
He didn't have the time to give the system a retort. For now, he was still feeling groggy.
He sluggishly walked out of his room and descended the stairs to find his stepmother heading to the dining room.
"Oh my! if it isn't young master Kevin. I was just at your door a few moments ago. I didn't want to disturb your sleep so I decided to let you rest. I do hope it wasn't my knocking that woke you up?" A blonde lady with green eyes asked as Kevin stopped at the foot of the stairs.
Looking closely, the lady was breathtakingly beautiful with long flowing hair that cascaded down her back. She has a beautiful face with a cute nose and a beauty mark at her lower left chin.
"No, I do not think so. And you are..?" Kevin interjected, realising that the lady before him hadn't introduced herself.
"Oops, sorry. I'm Vanessa, your stepmother," She replied with a smile.
"Ah, yes. Of course, you are. I'm truly sorry about my father's health and the burden it placed on you. You must have felt really lonely and I want to thank you for all that you've done for him." Kevin said, feeling a sense of despair from the recent events.
"Ah, no, I was just fulfilling my duties as a wife, that's all," Vanessa asserted, a smile plastered on her face.
"Regardless, your help has been greatly appreciated," Kevin replied before he noticed the presence of an unknown individual before the kitchen's entrance.
"Oh! So this is the young master? Hi, I'm Drake, nice to meet you," A well-muscled man declared as he saw Kevin.
He stretched his huge muscular arms towards Kevin for a handshake.
"Please, call me Kevin," Kevin said shaking Drake's hand firmly.
The two maintained a fierce gaze as their handshake soon became a show of strength.
Drake chuckled a bit. It seemed he wasn't dealing with a weak young master.
"That's a nice grip you've got there Kevin. So, how was school? It must have been stressful coming all the way from Emerald City." Drake said, slowly disentangling his hand from Kevin's.
"Nope, not really. It was quite entertaining actually," Kevin replied with a grin.
[More like, exhaustively entertaining if you ask me.]
'No one did.'
"If you would excuse me, dinner will be served in the next ten minutes," The maid, Dahlia announced as she stepped into the living room.
"Oh perfect, thank you, Dahlia. Now come on boys, I believe none of you would enjoy chatting on an empty stomach,"
Vanessa said as she guided us towards the dining room.
"So you are her brother, right?" Kevin asked as he moved to take a seat at the dining table.
"Yes, actually I came here to meet a friend, but after informing my sister of my intentions, she asked if I could stay here until my business was done."
"Ah, that makes sense. So, what is your business if I may ask?" Kevin inquired because he was increasingly curious about his stepmother's brother and his occupation.
"Cough, Cough."
Drake immediately spat out the water he was drinking when he heard Kevin's question.
[Doesn't he have a job?]
'My thoughts exactly,' Kevin said in bafflement.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Are you okay?" Kevin feigned concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine, thank you. Actually, I work in a company," Drake said after a brief pause.
"Oh? What kind of company, if I may ask?" Kevin delved deeper.
The conversation was slowly turning into an interrogation.
"A construction company," Drake replied as beads of sweat dripped down his forehead.
"Wow!! And what do you ..."
"Great!! The food is here, let's all sit back and enjoy the food, please," Vanessa interrupted the conversation. She had felt the atmosphere between Kevin and Drake become tense.
[Way to go stepmother. Now, there's definitely something fishy going on here.]
'My exact thoughts,'
Kevin and the system both praised Vanessa's keen intuition.
Soon, the atmosphere gradually eased as the room fell silent.
