Chapter 111: Kevin
"Mary, how old is the old man?" David asked Mery as they walked.
A man is considered an old man if he is in his 60s. However, the word old has no limit, someone could be in their 90s.
David was curious about Aceng's age because he wanted to know if he wasn't so old that he was still full of ambition.
After all, he is just an ordinary human being. He should know his limits because there is death waiting for him.
"It should be almost a hundred years old. He's even been married over twenty times with countless grandchildren," Mery replied with a soft laugh.
David rolled his eyes, not expecting such a story.
Of course, the fact that Aceng was already almost a hundred years old made David realize that human ambitions were truly limitless even if they were just ordinary humans who would soon die.
David chose to stop thinking about that.
Not long after, David and Mery finally arrived in front of Aceng's building.
Up close, it was really tall and big, full of professionally dressed people.
They were practically the elite among the workers, wearing professional clothes and having whiter skin than the average human skin in this country.
When they came out of the building and met people passing by, their heads were held quite high.
Their arrogance is obvious.
"The biggest bank in Southeast Asia, countless mines, millions of hectares of palm oil land, hundreds of textile factories, the old man built all of that from nothing to the point it is now. In fact, his father was an immigrant from China while his mother was an immigrant from India. He got a lot of discrimination when he was young.
But see, who can guess one's future." Mery said, explaining about the old man to David as she walked towards the entrance of the skyscraper.
Apparently, no one looked suspicious as David and Mery headed towards the building. Maybe it was because they looked more elite.
In the lobby of the building, David saw quite a few pictures of an old man who already looked very old.
His hair was white and his body was rather thin, but his eyes shone brightly.
When saw the pictures, the employees in the building were amazed.
David immediately guessed that they were pictures of Aceng.
He wasn't sure why there were so many pictures of him here.
Although Mery said his father was from China and his mother from India, David felt he was no different from other Southeast Asian men.
After thinking about it, David finally realized that Southeast Asians are indeed a combination of Chinese and Indian.
Their physique is Chinese while their skin is Indian.
"Mery, is that you?" To his surprise, a man suddenly called Mery from the side.
David and Mery spontaneously glanced to the side only to find a handsome young man with slightly curled black hair.
He was wearing long pants and a black suit. Although very young, he seemed to be groomed to occupy a high position in this company.
All the female employees were looking at him with interested eyes, including the middle-aged women.
They probably wouldn't mind submitting themselves to him if he wanted them.
"Kevin," Mery said when she saw him, frowning.
David, who already had a lot of experience with women, didn't need to keep thinking to guess who this young man was.
He should be one of Aceng's grandsons who was almost set up with Mery.
"Hahaha, I didn't expect us to meet here. Would you like to meet me and talk about our arranged marriage again?" the man said after being convinced that it was Mery.
When he heard his words, David's impression of him instantly changed.
He thought he was a smart guy because he did look smart in his professional attire.
However, what he said practically showed that he was the kind of asshole young master.
No wonder Mery would rather run abroad.
"Don't worry, I still love you, to be honest. So I'm ready to accept you if you want to come back to me. We can even get married right away, my friends got married young, I think I want to get married young too," he added.
In this country, young marriages under the age of 20 are common.
However, the way this man spoke made David want to punch him in the face.
"You need to stop dreaming that shit, Kevin," Mery replied in a cold, exasperated tone.
She even looked like she wanted to kick him.
At the same time, people were surprised that she rejected Kevin outright.
They couldn't help but stare at the European man beside her and think that she could probably ignore Kevin because she had a better man.
For a moment, Kevin's face froze.
His eyes then looked at David whose presence he barely noticed.
He was surprised that there was a young European here.
When he thought that he might be Mery's boyfriend, he began to observe David carefully.
The way he thinks is naturally different from most people in this country.
He wouldn't spontaneously look up to a European because even the majority of Europeans feel inferior in front of his background.
It was just that, when he observed David, he quickly realized that this man was of a different class.
His brand of clothing was the kind that was hard to find as it was produced very limitedly and could only be purchased with complicated connections.
Moreover, the watch he was wearing, Kevin would be kicked out by his father if he asked to be bought such an expensive watch at his age.
He may be the grandson of a super-rich man, but there are many equals in his family.
He couldn't spend money infinitely.
For this, he could only blame his grandfather for having too many wives.
"Is he your boyfriend?" Kevin asked Mery.
This time, his arrogant tone was reduced quite drastically. Even if he thought his grandfather was richer than David's parents, still he was aware that David probably only had a few brothers.
If he wanted to beat David, he might need to seize the inheritance of all his cousins.
Mery glanced at David when asked about it.
To her younger brother, she could easily tell the truth, but she felt that this guy should not know because he might make trouble for her after he found out that she and David were just friends. If she said that they were just FWB, he would definitely make fun of her.
In the end, she decided to pretend that she was too lazy to answer.
"David, come on," she said to David before taking a step.
David nodded and followed her to the elevator.
"Wait, what are you guys doing here?" asked Kevin as he chased after them.
If they were somewhere else, there was nothing wrong at all. However, now they were in his office.
Kevin wanted to know why they had come here.
However, Mery chose not to answer. If no one was around, she might be able to say that they came to arrest her grandfather, but if she said it here, everyone around would hear.
It would practically cause a huge commotion in that lobby.
Of course, this was Kevin's territory. Her question unanswered, she became very annoyed.
"Hey Mery, what makes you so arrogant?" he asked in a loud voice while chasing after David and Mery who had almost arrived in front of an elevator.
This caused the employees to look at each other, wondering if this would lead to a fight to the point of violence.
When Kevin was only a meter away from them, David took action.
His fist moved towards the man's face.
Bam!
The impact of his fist on his face instantly knocked him down. His eyes seemed to be filled with stars, as if he had just woken up.
In no time, David and Mery entered the elevator, disappearing from people's sight.
When Kevin recovered from his daze, his eyes were instantly filled with angry fire.
"Fuck!" He cursed then entered another elevator.
He clearly wanted to chase after David and pick a fight with him. After all, who could accept being hit on his own territory.
He would become the gossip of everyone in this building.
Unfortunately, when she entered the elevator, she became confused because she didn't know what floor David and Mery were headed to.
This building had too many floors which were the offices of his grandfather's various companies. He couldn't just guess because if he did, he wouldn't be able to find David and Mery.
Actually, in that elevator, there are no buttons for the top few floors. It seemed that to get there, you had to use a special elevator.
Therefore, David and Mery decided to go up to the highest floor under those few special floors.
The elevator where they were immediately rose quickly to the top.
Although the floor they were on was very high, the elevator arrived in no time.
When the elevator door opened, David found a room with many doors where on each side of the door was a reception desk with two or three women sitting behind the desk.
