Chapter 259 Mutant Dogs
Chapter 259 Mutant Dogs
Placing the bags on the ground, Han Renqi and Han Fengwen wiped their sweat and fanned their flushed faces. After resting for a moment, Han Renqi opened one of the bags, took out a few bottles of mineral water, and handed them to his family.
Seeing his elders hesitate to drink the water, Han Renqi urged, "Father, Mother, Grandpa, Grandma, please drink some water."
They felt reluctant to drink it and wanted to save the water for later. But after Han Renqi's continued urging, the four of them finally opened the bottles and took a sip. After drinking, they handed the remaining water to the three brothers.
Han Yixue didn't hesitate and opened the bottle. He took a mouthful of water and then handed the bottle back to his elder brother. Han Fengwen also took a sip before distributing the biscuits he'd found in the cafeteria.
While the Han family was eating and drinking, Yao Ran suddenly looked up from the map she was studying and glanced outside.
Noticing her sudden alertness, Long Yu asked, "Ran Ran, what's wrong?"
Yao Ran quickly folded the map, stood up, and urgently said, "Everyone, we need to go now."
Although they didn't know the reason, the others immediately stood up, gathered their belongings, and rushed back to the vehicles.
Seeing Yao Ran and her friends leaving so suddenly, Han Yixue sensed something was wrong and called out, "Quick, follow them!"
As soon as he said this, his family quickly gathered their belongings and ran toward their car. Seeing that his grandparents couldn't keep up, Han Renqi and Han Fengwen helped them along.
Without waiting for his father to get into the driver's seat, Han Yixue jumped behind the wheel and shouted, "Hurry up!"
Han Renqi rushed to open the trunk, tossed their supplies inside, then closed it and got into the passenger seat. The moment he shut the door, Han Yixue pressed on the accelerator.
Following Yao Ran's instructions to exit along their entry route, the bus led the way, with the trucks close behind. When Long Yu saw the Han family's car speed past, he hit the accelerator and followed the others.
As he drove, Long Yu glanced back to see Yao Ran open the roof window. Watching her quickly assemble her sniper rifle, he realized the reason for their hasty departure was now gaining on them.
He glanced at Yao Ran and asked, "Ran Ran, what is chasing us?"
Yao Ran stood up and held her sniper rifle, facing backward. Through the scope, she saw a pack of black-skinned dogs chasing after them.
Her grip tightened on the sniper rifle as she replied, "It's a pack of mutant dogs."
Long Yu was stunned for a moment before gloomily said, "It seems the mutations have started sooner in this life." Nôv(el)B\\jnn
"Mhm." Yao Ran nodded, her attention fixed on the mutant dogs closing in on them.
She focused on the pack leader, a dog larger than the others with an additional red eye on its forehead. Narrowing her eyes, she aimed at the leader and, after a second, pulled the trigger.
Pshyu~!
The bullet left the muzzle, passed through the suppressor, and flew toward the mutant dog's leader's forehead. Sensing the incoming bullet, the leader ducked just as Yao Ran fired. Through the scope, she saw the bullet brushed past its thick fur, leaving a shallow mark but causing no injury.
Adjusting her aim, she targeted the leader's leg this time. It was a more challenging shot than aiming for the head, but she had no choice. After a couple of seconds, she fired again.
Pshyu~!
This time, the leader was forced to roll sideways to avoid the bullet. Seizing the moment, Yao Ran fired another round aimed at its head.
Pshyu~!
Crack!
The bullet struck the leader's skull, piercing its forehead. As blood began to seep out from the wound, the mutant leader staggered, then dropped heavily to the ground.
Thud!
Seeing their leader's blood stained the ground, the other mutant dogs hesitated, circling their fallen leader anxiously before erupting in furious roars. Their angry howls echoed as they resumed their chase with renewed fury, their red eyes glowing with hatred and bloodlust.
Observing this, Yao Ran realized she would need to kill every one of them. Otherwise, no one would survive these mutant dogs' attacks today.
Through the rearview mirror, Long Yu saw the mutant dogs still chasing and asked, "Ran Ran, can you take them all down?"
"Yes." She replied confidently.
Getting her answer, Long Yu stayed focused on driving while Yao Ran reloaded her sniper rifle and continued shooting at the advancing mutant dogs.
Having witnessed their leader's death, the mutant dogs adopted a new strategy. They no longer run in a straight line but erratically, making aiming more difficult.
Seeing this, Yao Ran sneered, put her sniper rifle on the back seat, and pulled out a few grenades from her space. Since everyone else was focused on driving, no one saw the grenades appear in her hands.
She looked at Long Yu and said, "A Yu, tell the others to drive faster."
Noticing the grenades in her hands, Long Yu picked up the walkie-talkie from the dashboard and instructed, "Speed up."
The others replied a second later, "Roger that."
As the distance between the SUV and the mutant dogs grew, Yao Ran pulled the safety pin from a grenade and tossed it toward the pack. The instant it hit the ground, it exploded.
Boom!
Driving the truck in front of the SUV, Huang Qian was startled by the loud explosion, "Heaven! So that's why Captain told us to speed up. He wanted to use grenades!"
Huang Zhihui grabbed the binoculars, rolled down the window, and looked back. Seeing Yao Ran toss another grenade, she quickly covered her ears just as another explosion erupted.
Boom!
Huang Qian looked at his younger sister with wide eyes and asked in disbelief, "Hui Hui, is Captain really throwing another grenade? Since when did he become so wasteful?"
