Chapter 2102: Prisoners of War

Eventually, the Demons had been suppressed and what was left was a bloodied battlefield that was filled with demon corpses as well as the smell of burning meat. The mages who had rescued the remaining groups of enemy soldiers had finally completed their operation and the second phase had been initiated as the Rifle Mages were finally free from their obligation to kill demons.

Therefore, they had been temporarily appointed as guards to look over the prisoners of war. However, Jin assured them that no harm would come to them as long as they followed their instructions. A few immediately disagreed with this since this was not what Ress had promised. And the minority was getting loud enough to affect the majority.

Thus, Jin in good faith had decided to open a portal and allowed them to move in without any cuffs and they could keep their weapons with them as well.

Obviously, the portal was a dungeon portal so it was basically a prison itself that the soldiers were not aware of mainly because that portal was to the Bamboo Fortress, and the 'image' that the portal showed looked rather 'modern' in nature. So, the prisoners of war were duped into thinking that they were going to a town where humans of Ress were residing.

However, when they entered, the prisoners of war realised it was a place they would not survive if they did anything funny. Jin knew that some were thinking of killing a few citizens or making a terror attack to seek revenge but those white bears with black spots were something that they could not win against.

It was not just through its size but the amount of presence each of them possessed. Even their regular citizens were at the very least S rank and above. Not to mention, all of them were trained when they were young. Just that they were not supposed to work beyond their job scope unless it was for self defence or they had been selected to be guards.

All the Pandarians were looking at them with some disdain despite the fact that there were a few human workers working with them hand in hand. Jin entered the portal with them and beckoned one of the Pandarians to provide the Village Hall to house these prisoners of war for now.

The Pandarian acknowledged the Ress King's orders since his word had been stated to be of equal importance with their elder. So, the Pandarian Guards quickly ushered them to the Village Hall where the aid workers were already moving to provide them with the necessary food and essentials for them.

Most of the aid rendered was of the most basic since the citizens of Ress knew that they were the enemies of the state.

Many did not know how advanced Ress had become until they saw this Bamboo Fortress. Roads were all well paved, metal carriages were moving on their own without any horses pulling them and there were metal sticks emanating lights in the evening. There was no need for people to use candles and the entire fortress was well maintained with little to no trash along the place.

What they were most surprised by was the advancement of toilets and there were actually Rifle Mages stationed at the toilets. "Use them cleanly or else you will be punished. This is a rule that cannot be broken." Jin was the first to announce this when he created the modern toilet. He had made sure that Rifle Mages had been stationed at the toilets to make sure that cleanliness was well maintained.

It was something that he could not compromise even when he was among friends.

The prisoners of war had seen that this isolation barrier that Ress was in had been an improvement to their quality of life and selfishly so. Even the food they were given was well packed and extremely tasty. They had never eaten such delicious food and only when the aid workers gloated that they were E Rank meat and ingredients, most of the prisoners of war could not believe their ears.

A piece of E Rank meat cost at least a few silver coins and most people eat them during special occasions but the people of Ress were eating them as if they were the most essential food they could ever get. The aid workers eventually told them stories of how they were only eating F Rank Meat and even non ranked food ingredients until Jin had done something so drastic to change their lifestyles.

However, none of them had leaked the powers of their king for they knew that they were still enemies of the state unless proven otherwise. It was also because they wanted their enemies to envy them. E Rank meat? Even the aid workers who were working in a 'remote' place were given C rank meat and food essentials while the people in Ress have already taken B Rank food as their daily nutritional intake.

Only senior RIfle Mages and above had the privilege to consume S rank meat and above in order to keep their magical circuits strong and in hopes that the consistent intake of higher rank meat provides them the necessary nutrients to grow even stronger.

In fact, the Star Foxes had already been taking Rank EX types of food, and their dietary intake was kept as a secret from most people. Only a few chefs were privy to such information and Jin did not have such a privilege to learn about it. As for the King, he was not given the best treatment, an equivalent to the Star Foxes for most of the meals mainly due to his busy schedule.

He usually just takes whatever was available unless the chefs insisted on cooking the meal for him. But those were the only days when he was in the castle, otherwise he spent more of his time cultivating his magic and chi within him.

His meat was like wagyu meat of the highest tier (even though Jin had to overcome the fact that it came from the High Orc.) So, just one bite of it was more than sufficient to ensure that one could feel great having it in his or her mouth.

That was why those demons that had been killed by the Rifle Mages were not left in the wild. Many salvagers had started driving transports to the outskirts of the isolation barrier, waiting for Jin to open up and grab as many demon corpses as they could so that they could process them, purify the meat and subsequently use it for their survival.

Simultaneously, those bones and fangs or whatever thing that was usable for crafting had been salvaged by professional craftsman to ensure that they could be used for the improvised smithing that the automated War Factory was using.

Of course, materials that were useless had been prioritised as the first to go while certain craftsman auction useful ones to see who wished to try creating something new.

This allowed the internal economy to grow and prosper while presenting new ideas to Jin in hopes that he can incorporate them for the ultimate survival of Ress. After all, there were rumours that Jin was paying certain amount of commission monthly to those craftsmen who had their ideas taken into consideration.

But right now, what Jin wants is leverage as well as the truth of the Mong Empire.
