Chapter 260
Chapter 260 - The Bold Jiang Hao
?”Extract!” Jiang Hao called out urgently.
Almost immediately, three emerald-like pills materialized, their crystalline sheen glistening. A subtle, refreshing scent of wood followed, uplifting the spirits of anyone who caught a whiff. Clearly, these were no ordinary pills.
Jiang Hao wasted no time in giving the system another command. “System, craft eight more jade bottles for me!”
“Affirmative, host,” the system responded.
?In a flash, several pieces of jade in Jiang Hao's system space vanished, replaced by a set of intricately carved jade bottles. He selected one and carefully placed the three Grass and Wood Pills inside. His eyes then eagerly turned to the remaining vines at his feet.
Without a moment's pause, he grabbed a vine and instructed the system, “System, deconstruct!”
?”Understood, host.”
“Ding… Congratulations, host, on a successful deconstruction…”
……
?In a short time, Jiang Hao had deconstructed all six vines he had gathered, and now held an additional 12 Grass-Wood Pills. Despite his success, he felt a lingering yearning for more.
His gaze shifted to the severed vines he hadn't bothered to collect, and then to the living vines still entwined around the trees. A bold idea struck him. “Can the system deconstruct these directly?” he wondered. If it worked, he'd strike it rich.
Resolved to try, Jiang Hao focused on the outermost vine, leaped up, and seized it. To his surprise, the vine began to thrash in protest.
?But with his Super Power activated, the vine stood no chance of escaping his grip. Without delay, Jiang Hao issued the command, “System, deconstruct!”
“Ding! The target's level is too high; deconstruction is not possible.”
“Level insufficient for deconstruction?”
This was an unprecedented failure for the system, which had never before encountered an obstacle it couldn't deconstruct. The infallible system had finally met its first defeat, leaving Jiang Hao astonished.
His actions had apparently further agitated the creature. Suddenly, the numerous vines wrapped around the tree started to stir violently.
Reacting swiftly, Jiang Hao used his Mountain Splitting Saber to sever the vine he held, then quickly backed away.
“Let's hit the road, Xiao Soong!”
With a shout, Jiang Hao swiftly turned and mounted Xiao Soong, hurrying back the way they came.
No sooner had Jiang Hao departed than a frenzy of vines cascaded from the trees, lashing wildly at the spot he had just vacated. Their force seemed capable of rending the very fabric of the sky and earth.
?Then, from the depths of the jungle, a piercing roar echoed—an unmistakable sound of fury.
?……
By now, Jiang Hao, astride Xiao Soong, had put considerable distance between them and the chaos. As they galloped along, he pondered whether the world had changed or if it had always been this way, hidden from his sight.
Memories of his grandfather's words and the system's explanations surfaced in his mind.
“Maybe this is the change the system's arrival has wrought upon the world,” he mused.
Fueled by this thought, Xiao Soong's relentless pace had them skirting the edge of the primeval forest within an hour.
?Throughout their journey, there was no sign of Gu Quanzhong and his party. They might have already left the forest, or they could still be wandering within its vast expanse. Given the forest's enormity, their paths not crossing was hardly surprising.
?At the protective barrier, Jiang Hao retrieved a bottle of Vital Essence from his inventory, poured it into a bowl with some water, and offered it to Xiao Soong. The creature lapped it up with eager enthusiasm, tongue flicking rapidly until the bowl was clean.
?Patting Xiao Soong affectionately, Jiang Hao said, “Head on back now. Next time I come, we'll have more fun together!”
