Chapter 76 Rescued & Promised
Kent quickly entered the cave, which is considered one of the most notorious spaces in the kingdom. Few knew of its existence, and even fewer spoke of it, for no one was supposed to.
The atrocities that occurred there were too barbaric to recount.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Those sent there never returned. It was a place meant for one purpose: to die screaming. Vogt and Falk were anything but benevolent.
When Kent stepped inside, he saw smaller cells with chains hanging from the walls.
[Master, those chains are enchanted to strip one of their cultivation base when put on. They also inflict mental torture and soul deprivation.]
<How sinister. Thankfully, I beheaded them all.> Kent sighed and kept moving.
A few seconds later, he stopped in front of a cell. Inside, a small human girl sat, her gaze unfocused and dazed.
The moment her eyes landed on Kent, she froze. She tried to stand but couldn't; the potion's effects still left her weak and drowsy.
"Big brother..." she called out in a frail voice, her mouth and eyes wide open.
For some reason, Kent's anger resurfaced when he saw her in that state. His sword came out of the sheath and returned the next moment, but the door was cut open, and he quickly stepped in.
"Big Brother", Li Hua's tears started to flow.
"Big brother... they killed Grandma, they killed Grandma," her tears were overflowing now that she had seen a familiar face.
Although she had only known Kent for two minutes, she could tell he wasn't there to hurt her. Just as Kent was angry when he saw her weak self, she also felt vulnerable and an instant trust when she saw him.
This was because of the connection between them. The guardianship would always make Kent aware of her and even know when she was in trouble. Of course, that was how it would be if he had fully awakened the Guardian Tower.
"Calm down, Li Hua. You are safe now," Kent said, rubbing her small head as he let the tiny human cry her heart out.
Everyone was dead now. He wasn't in a hurry to leave. In fact, Kent was hoping more guards would come so he could vent his anger.
An hour later, Li Hua calmed down. Initially, Kent was worried about how to approach the matter of her Grandma's/Guardian's death, but hearing and seeing that she already knew calmed him down a bit.
The memory he had locked away could have helped him, but he wasn't thinking about that just yet.
For now, Kent was very angry, and this was due to his [Guardian Protect] skill. Because of this, Kent would seek revenge on those who dared to hurt someone under his protection.
"Take this," Kent said, grabbing a pill from his space ring and placing it on Li Hua's tongue. The pill dissolved in her mouth, filling her with energy.
"Big Brother, are you here to rescue me?" Li Hua asked, a little more composed now.
"Yes. Your Grandma told me to come when I came looking for you," Kent said with a small smile, trying to ease her anxious heart.
"Grandma," Li Hua muttered, wiping an invisible tear from her eyes. "I miss Grandma," she said.
She had been present when her Grandma was killed and had witnessed it all.
Perhaps the kidnappers wanted her to know there was no coming back for her. By killing her only attachment, they were telling her she had no hope of being freed.
Of course, for some reason, that part of the memory was buried deep in the memory Kent received from Janice.
He didn't know why, but he could tell the Fox Lady didn't want him to know. He would later sit down and go through her memories and the new ones he had extracted despite blacking out.
"Don't worry, Li Hua, big brother is going to protect you now. I will ensure no harm comes to you, no matter the danger," Kent promised.
"Mmm," Li Hua nodded her tiny head, holding Kent's hand firmly.
A promise from a guardian is said to be the most dangerous vow. The epic saga of the untamed guardian—the one who rose through the heavens, hunting all that threatened his ward.
The one who moved across realms to exact revenge on those who dared hurt his ward. The one who broke the heavens and killed gods just because they set their sights on his ward.
The heavens are about to understand the true nature of a guardian. One who fights relentlessly for his wards. One who is wholly dedicated to those he dares to place under his care.
Many will grow wary of him and jealous of him. It is said that a guardian's task is only complete when the last obstacle is overcome and the last ward is safe.
Kent didn't immediately take Li Hua away; he first scanned her.

<That's all. What about the Cure Tower?>
Kent wasn't angry yet. He wanted to keep it cool, considering the person everyone was trying to possess would die soon.
[The master doesn't have to worry, as the cure will be made known once the Guardian Tower awakens. For now, the master has two years to become a grandmaster so the tower can awaken.]
<Great.> Kent sighed.
Kent gave Li Hua a stare. He pitied her in his heart, considering she had been born with a divine body, yet, because of that, she wouldn't live long enough.
He couldn't think of any reason why someone would place a marker on her or, more importantly, who knew she had a divine body and placed a marker on her.
Naturally, the moment the marker was erased, the person who placed the marker on her would be made known.
Perhaps that is what they wanted, considering they could have killed her instead of marking and sealing her. That doesn't make sense.
But then again, perhaps they knew she wouldn't amount to much, considering she couldn't cultivate even if she tried.
But that was then. She has now met Kent, who would do anything as her Guardian to ensure her cure and safety from all harm.
Kent quickly lifted her onto his shoulder, but then he remembered the massacre outside, so he had to blindfold her for a minute. He wouldn't want her to see the scene outside.
He was about to leave the cave when the tower prompted him.
[Master, there is someone else in here.]
What do you think?
