Chapter 390: Surprise, surprise
Mira stared at the Soul orb in Alex's hand, eyes widening with disbelief.
The deep gold and vibrant purple hues gave it an air of royalty, which only served to confirm Alex's statement that it had dropped from the King of Evermoor.
"Wait, hold on."
Mira stammered, her gaze flickering between Alex and the shimmering soul orb.
"You mean to tell me… you really got a King class soul orb!?"
"Yeah."
Alex confirmed it, his own voice still being tinged with awe.
"I didn't think I could get any luckier, but here we are…"
Mira shook her head, still trying to wrap her head around it.
She knew Alex's talent was powerful, but to even be powerful enough to drop a Soul orb from a King class beast only served to further reinforce her belief that Alex really might have the strongest talent…
She took a step closer, examining the soul orb with a mixture of reverence and caution.
She was afraid that she might accidentally absorb it somehow, so she didn't want to directly touch it.
The pulsing energy within it seemed to react to her presence though, brightening slightly as if acknowledging her attention.
Alex gave her a wry smile, letting out a breath he didn't realise he was holding.
"It's kind of surreal, isn't it? I mean, killing the King of Evermoor was one thing, but even getting a soul orb from it as well…"
His voice trailed off, and for a moment, the two of them just stood there, admiring this insanely powerful item Alex had just revealed.
Then, Mira's expression shifted.
She furrowed her brow as if a thought seemed to have struck her.
"Wait a second… why didn't you notice this earlier?"
"I've been with you the entire time since that battle. Did it just appear out of nowhere?"
Alex grimaced, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Uh, funny story… I might've overlooked checking my inventory completely… Just a few moments ago was the first time I had even checked my loot properly until now."
"You what?"
Mira's voice came out as a shrill whisper.
"Alex, you're telling me you've been lugging around this — perhaps the most powerful item you've ever held, and you just… forgot to check?"
"Hey, in my defence, I didn't expect a King class beast to drop something like this…"
Alex muttered, trying and failing to look innocent.
"I mean, how often do you come across something this absurd? My expectations were a bit lower than 'world shattering loot.'"
Mira shook her head, but a smile still tugged at her lips when she realised that this could only make Alex even stronger.
"Oh, by the way, check this out."
But Alex wasn't finished with showing her the good stuff just yet.
He opened up his inventory once more, this time giving Mira permission to peer into it too.
And when she did so, her eyes widened just as much as they did the first time he showed her the King class Soul orb.
Mira's gaze locked onto the big personal spatial storage that Alex had access to thanks to his op talent, and her jaw dropped.
An array of soul orbs, unlike she had ever seen before.
There were quite literally hundreds of them, over a thousand if she actually took the time to count them all.
Before this point, Mira had only seen a few Soul orbs at all, since Alex was the only known source of them to her knowledge, and probably to the rest of the human race's knowledge as well, if they even knew about soul orbs at all.
"Wha—"
Mira struggled to find her words, her eyes darting between Alex and the seemingly glittering ocean of energy he had just laying around in storage.
"Alex, what is this…? There are so many… This has to be some kind of illusion, right? Is this your way of telling me you unlocked some sort of new talent related to illusions?"
She tried to process what she was looking at.
Each soul orb, regardless of its rank, was a rare and precious treasure in the whole universe, the System itself had even confirmed that.
And yet, here Alex was, casually holding onto what could probably be a whole race's federal reserve's value.
Alex chuckled in amusement when he saw Mira's reaction, clearly more exaggerated than when she saw the gold and purple King class orb.
"Yeah, uh… Remember when I launched my last attack at the King of Evermoor to finish it off?"
Mira blinked, still trying to comprehend the absurd amount of orbs.
"Yeah… but what does that have to do with all of these? I get that it was strong, but there's no way the King of Evermoor could have dropped all these as well, right?"
"Yeah, no way. Not even a King class beast could drop such an absurd amount of Soul orbs."
Alex's smile widened slightly.
"It's because of the size of the attack I launched. If you remember correctly, it didn't just affect the King of Evermoor, but also everything else within a thousand Kilometre diameter."
Mira's eyes perked up even more, like she just had a realisation.
"You mean…?"
Alex nodded.
"Yeah. It wasn't just the environment that was obliterated by my attack. Every beast, animal or creature within that range was annihilated, and since it all rooted from my own strength, I ended up counting as the perpetrator that killed them all."
For a few moments, they both fell silent.
Mira was absorbing the absurdity of Alex's power, while Alex was just thinking about what on earth he would do with all of those soul orbs.
'Wait!'
However, something clicked in his mind.
"Mira."
He called out to Mira, bringing her out of her own thought processes.
"I'm sure you might have realised already that I couldn't possibly use all these soul orbs myself, and if you didn't… Well, now you do."
Mira's brows raised, intrigued by what else he was going to say.
"And since I couldn't possibly use them all myself, I think it's about time you deserve some."
