Reborn to be a God of Reading

Chapter 23

C23 – Painting Competition

Caden was so angry that his face turned red. He was already so old, when had he ever been criticized by a young man?

“Alright!”

He said, “Since you have such a profound understanding of traditional painting, and you are still willing to guide me, it means that your painting skills are enough to be my teacher. Then, let’s compete!”

Lachlan shook his head, “No, your reputation is so great, it’s not fair.”

Caden was so angry that he almost spat out blood, but he had nothing to say for a while.

One must know that the art was something that could not be discussed in public.

There was no clear standard for winning or losing. Caden was famous and respected by many people, so his works were naturally sought after.

As for Lachlan, he was just an ordinary person. Even if he could paint well, it would still be useless!

Because as long as he could find a judge in Ellsworth University, even if Lachlan could paint a masterpiece, the person who would win would definitely be Caden.

“How about I be the judge?”

Another old man walked into the office. This old man was gentle and refined, and with a single glance, one could tell that he was a scholar.

“Why is Professor Zimmer here today? He can see two national treasures at the same time in a small office.”

“If Professor Zimmer were to be the judge, it would be absolutely fair. He has never been partial to anyone.”

“So what if it is fair? Do you think that there is anyone who can surpass Professor Caden Cross in terms of traditional painting?”

While gesturing for everyone to calm down, Boyd Zimmer said to Caden, “You really came back from the dead. You were actually criticized by a junior, why didn’t you die earlier?”

“Even if you die, I will not die. I will definitely live one more day than you.”

The two of them stood opposite each other and started a verbal war in front of everyone.

It was only now that everyone remembered that the two of them were sworn enemies who had been together for a long time.

Caden breathed heavily as he glared at Lachlan, “Kid, Boyd Zimmer is about to die. As the saying goes, when a person is about to die, his words are also kind. How about he be the judge?”

“You are the one who is about to die!”

Lachlan replied, “I believe you can defeat him. You can compete with him. Don’t worry, I will be fair and open. I will even stand on your side.”

“Alright, then I will compete with you today. However, there is no meaning in winning without any prizes.” Lachlan said.

“I will agree to anything you want, but if I win, you will have to give me ten days to admire your Along the River During the Qingming Festival.” Caden said angrily.

“Alright, it’s a deal.”

Under the crowd’s gaze, Lachlan and Caden took their seats.

The two of them were painting traditional paintings. Traditional paintings were ink paintings, which were drawn on a piece of paper with a brush dipped in water, ink, and color.

The painting was divided into three categories: people, birds, and mountains and rivers. From the surface, the contents of the painting seemed to have a theme, but in fact, it was a form of artistic conception and a way of expressing one’s thoughts. As the saying goes, “traditional paintings are divided into three categories,” it summarised the universe, the universe, and life.

The culture of the Lunamis was extensive and profound. Just this simple painting alone contained thousands of things.

The ink was the most important of the four treasures of the literary world.

The paper was the special paper used by the ancient emperors.

With all the tools placed on the table, it immediately gave off an ancient feeling. Even if one did not know how to paint, they would still be affected by this atmosphere.

“The two of you can draw freely. The winner will be judged by me.” Boyd Zimmer said.

“Lachlan can still paint?” Lucille could not help but ask.

Terry spread his hands, “Teacher, I have never seen Lachlan painting before, but since he said he can, then he shouldn’t be lying.”

Lucille rolled her eyes. Traditional painting required a large amount of study and copying. It was impossible for Lachlan to learn it all at once.

If Lachlan were to draw a children’s painting, that would be a huge joke.

Caden was confident and calm. After thinking for a while, he raised his brush and started to paint.

On the other hand, Lachlan had his eyes closed the whole time, not knowing what he was doing.

In fact, Lachlan did not know how to paint. He was currently reading in Library Ocean.

As long as he mastered the technique of traditional painting, he believed that he would definitely be able to defeat Caden.

After Lachlan had read 180 books, the system finally sent out a notification.

[Beginner level of traditional painting technique discovered. Do you want to learn it?]

[Learn immediately.]

In an instant, Lachlan’s eyes flashed with a bright light. His understanding of traditional painting became even more profound, as if he was born to know how to paint.

Without any hesitation, Lachlan started to draw.

“I thought that Lachlan was very powerful, but in the end, he doesn’t know how to draw at all.”

“What do you mean?”

“Professor Garcia’s painting is a landscape painting. In order for a landscape painting to be appreciated, it has to contain philosophy. Professor Garcia has obviously mastered the essence of the painting.”

“As for Lachlan, he is drawing a human figure. This kind of painting requires a lower standard. Even if he doesn’t do well, this painting can still be appreciated.”

No one could understand the skills of the two, but they could understand a little bit through the comments of others.

At the beginning, Professor Garcia seemed to have the advantage.

As time passed, the two of them gradually entered their peak state, and started to paint with full energy.

Lawson’s painting had already taken shape. His painting was very detailed, and it had 70% of the outline and 30% of the charm. The artistic conception was even more graceful and magnificent.

The people of the modern world were different from the ancient people. The ancient people’s lives were not as restless as the modern people’s. They would spend decades studying a skill, and they truly had the spirit of a craftsman.

However, Professor Garcia’s painting was not much different from the ancient people’s. He had truly achieved the number one in the world.

“Old Cai’s painting is really good. His painting is so lifelike, and his painting skills have improved again!”

Boyd Zimmer’s evaluation was very high, as if Caden had already won.

“Lachlan is really too arrogant. Compared to Professor Garcia, he is simply asking for humiliation.”

“I knew it. How could Lachlan be a match for Professor Garcia? He just wants to attract the attention of the public.”

Countless mocking and sarcastic comments were extremely harsh, but Lachlan did not take a single one of them to heart.

Lachlan had already entered into a state of mind. Although he was drawing a character, it was a character who had fought side by side with millions of people on the battlefield.

His brush strokes danced like dragons and phoenixes, displaying the vicissitudes of life.

Those who had never experienced the battlefield would never understand the magnificent scene of tens of thousands of people throwing their heads and spilling their blood. They would never understand the worry of their family members.

His drawing was completed!

When everyone saw Lachlan drawing, they all turned their gazes towards his drawing.

“What kind of trash is he drawing?”

“I’m dying of laughter. His drawing is a mess. It’s not as good as my drawing when I was young.”

“Lachlan doesn’t even know how to draw!”

“Fat Stewart, get me a glass of water!” Lachlan said slowly.

Kelton’s face was flushed red. He was one of Lachlan’s friends.

Since Lachlan’s drawing was like this, his face naturally did not look good either.
