Chapter 542: From Skirt Discussion To Wedding Planning
Chapter 542: From Skirt Discussion To Wedding Planning
This statement granted Dai Lee access to the Wen home and once she stepped foot inside, it was the beginning of both endless and meaningless visits. Mama Wen invited her in but like a vampire, she was easy to invite inside but very difficult to get rid of.
Mama Wen made some tea as Dai Lee silently observed her environment. All her life she was adorned in luxury and splendour but she would never disrespect someone's home. She had heard from her father that her grandfather worked in the mines before he started his own business.
From what her father said Mama Wen's home was far better than the sort of living conditions her grandfather lived in for a third of his life. This made her understand the hard work and effort her grandfather put for her and her son to have such a wonderful life. It was because of this that she wasn't the rich snobbish type who would refuse to enter other people's homes just because of their status.
In fact, she thought Mama Wen's house was especially comfortable and nice. It was well decorated with the unique warmth of a true home. Ever since her son moved out she hadn't felt that kind of warmth in a very long time.
With a light dull sound, a teacup with a coaster underneath was placed in front of Dai Lee before Mama Wen sat opposite her. "Thank you," said Dai Lee as she picked up the steaming cup of tea, "I like your home. It's very nice."
Mama Wen took a small sip of her tea before saying, "Mn.... thank you. How many sugars?"
Dai Lee shook her head saying, "I don't like sweet things," before taking a sip. She seemed contented because her expression relaxed like she had made herself at home.
The atmosphere turned awkwardly silent for a while with the only sound coming from the clock on the wall. It was Mama Wen who couldn't take it anymore. She cleared a throat loudly and said, "You um, you mentioned a skirt," rubbing the side of her nose. Her son must have frightened this poor lady's soul away when he appeared in such an unconventional way.
She wanted her son happy but wasn't easily accepting of him prancing around the streets with a skirt. Sure, she would eventually get used to it but she would have to deal with this hysterical mum who thought Wen Qinxi had an identity crisis. As long as he doesn't come to her neighbourhood in a skirt then that would be fine. As the saying goes out of sight out of mind.
"Huh?" asked Dai Lee almost forgetting why she was here, "Oh, right..... the um skirt. I..... ahem.... how do I say this?" She tapped her index finger in nervousness before spilling the tea, not in the literal sense.
"I have access to my son's apartment and happened to pass by to, you know..... talk about who I fired and why I fired them but..... I saw your son wearing a skirt this short," she explained gesturing with her hand how super short it was, "and there were fluffy cat ears, a....um, a collar with a tiny bell and an apron. Oh..... my poor heart. I almost had a heart attack....."
Mama Wen, "...."
Ptooey! Was the sound of mama Wen spitting out a mouthful of her tea in this century's best spit-take. Lucky for Dai Lee she wasn't in the line of fire. "*cough *cough *cough how about you warn me next time," said Mama Wen as Dai Lee grabbed some tissue to offer to her.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry," she apologized before taking out two more tissues to wipe the coffee table.
It was only after cleaning up did mama Wen start laughing startling Dai Lee. She began to question whether she had broken this lady's brain by telling her this. "Why... Is it even funny," said Dai Lee with her brows scrunched up.
Mama Wen waved her hand in denial and said, "You don't understand..... I thought... I honestly thought you meant he was walking outside in a skirt. If it's just in private then that's fine. Whoo, at least it's indoors. Look, I don't have a problem with how anyone chooses to dress, it's a free country after all but I don't know how I would have reacted to seeing him walking in public in a skirt. I want him to be happy but I might have drawn the line there at least when he comes to see me."
Dai Lee was somewhat envious of her open-mindedness as she scrutinized her carefully. In their generation, her temperament was incredibly rare. "You really are fine with it?" she asked with her eyes narrowed into a squint.
"Yep, though I wouldn't want to see it. That would be a little too much for me to take," explained Mama Wen feeling much more relaxed, "... what really bothers me is not that but... hear me out. If my son was a girl and I realised the sort of relationship they're in I would have come to your house and threaten to burn it down unless your son marries my child but because they're boys I don't know if the principal still applies."
Suddenly the discussion that started because of a skirt turned serious. The two stared at each other for a while as though sizing each other up.
"Is his father around," asked Dai Lee with a glint of mischief in her eyes.
Mama Wen noticed but still responded, "No, he is gone. How about your son's?"
"Deadbeat so..... no one is going to stop us, right?" replied Dai Lee stirring up the pot like a witch concocting some vile potion.
Having found common ground, Mama Wen was excited. She stood up abruptly and said, "This discussion would be better with some liquor."
"I will order some snacks," said Dai Lee taking out her cellphone. The two women cosied up together in a wintery day planning their sons' futures without their knowledge.
These two didn't even know that their parents had met. That's because they were doing what the children call the birds and the bees in seclusion.
By the time they stopped dual cultivating Wen Qinxi was spent lying in bed like a corpse. It was fun while they were doing it but now the full effects of what they had done for half a day had finally kicked in and Wen Qinxi felt the worst of it.
His thighs, waist and nipples were sore at varying degrees making him very irritable right now. This meant his overbearing side came out ordering around the culprit who was for some reason full of vitality like the bedroom activities had reenergized his batteries.
Wen Qinxi covered his entire head with the quilt trying to rest a little but Qie Ranzhe's cellphone kept ringing incessantly like he owed a loan shark money. The owner was downstairs warming up some food he had ordered from a restaurant nearby so he wasn't available to answer it.
