Chapter 145 144 - Manchester City U20 (Part 5)

Back on the pitch, the second half began with both teams determined to win. City, of course, tried to impose their pace, but Brighton held firm, with Felix and Denis controlling the midfield well and Loki still showing great security in defense against Sancho.

It was at the 10-minute mark that the rehearsed move took shape. Denis, faithful to his plan, attracted City's players. He carried the ball expertly through the middle, forcing Foden and Doyle to come forward to steal it. A quick touch to Felix continued the maneuver. Felix played it back to Denis, who retreated a little, making it look as if the play would take place there, in midfield.

"Press! Press!" shouted the City coach, pushing his team forward and closing down spaces. And then the moment came.

Denis, with the precise vision of a maestro, spotted the gap he had been waiting for. With a quick, low pass, he slipped the ball between City's defenders, creating a corridor.

Arthur, the center forward, saw the ball and prepared to run towards it, believing he was the target of the pass. But in a split second, something surprising happened. Lucas, like a hungry predator, came out of nowhere, overtaking Arthur and appearing in front of the ball with impressive speed and determination.

Arthur jumped back a little, clearly startled. "What the...?!" he exclaimed.

Lucas wasted no time. He latched onto the ball with his chest, letting it drop gently in front of him. With two City defenders trying to reach him, he took a precise touch to push them away, gaining space to finish. And then, with his right foot, he unleashed a low, powerful cross-shot towards the goalkeeper's left-hand corner.

The stadium held its breath. The ball seemed to travel in slow motion, cutting through the air before kissing the net. Goal!

"BRIGHTON'S GOOOOOOOAAL!" boomed the narration. Clara almost lost her voice from shouting. "Lucas Tanaka! A stroke of genius, Henry! What was that?"

Henry laughed in disbelief. "That, Clara, was the coolness and intelligence of a significant player! What a reading of the game, what execution! City didn't know what to do!"

Lucas ran out into the crowd, arms outstretched. His teammates followed, surrounding him in an intense celebration. Denis arrived at last, pulling him into a hug.

"I told you so! I told you it would work!" Denis shouted, laughing.

Lucas, panting, just stammered between laughs: "It nearly kills me, but it was worth it!"

On the City side, frustration was evident. The coach was shouting instructions while the players were arguing amongst themselves. That goal paved the way for the unexpected. Brighton, the underdogs, was beating the mighty Manchester City.

In the stands, Marceli and her friends were celebrating like crazy. Anne almost knocked over the bucket of popcorn while Carly jumped up and down. Marceli, with her cell phone in hand, took pictures of the celebration.

Lucy, who was still watching from afar, smiled slightly. She wasn't the type to show excitement at matches, but she couldn't help admiring the talent on the pitch.

"They really have something special," she thought.

The game continued with intensity. City tried to react, but ran into a wall in Brighton's defense.

Daniel and Luiz Fernando were impeccable, cutting out crosses and tackling with precision.

Felix, like a lion in midfield, gave Foden no respite, while Loki kept Sancho in check.

With every minute that passed, the Brighton fans became louder, encouraging the team to keep up the pace.

Lucas' goal had fired up the team and the stands, but Manchester City, clearly annoyed, was adjusting their stance. Foden, Sancho and Doyle exchanged quick passes, trying to find the gaps that Brighton's defense would not give up.

"Come on, don't fall back so much! Hold your lines!" shouted Eddie, gesturing energetically.

In one of these moves, Sancho escaped Loki's marking for the first time in a long time by breaking into the box with danger. He tried a shot, but Anton made a spectacular save to keep it out.

"Anton! What an unbelievable save!" shouted Clara on the broadcast. "Brighton's goalkeeper is holding his nerve, Henry!"

"It's the kind of performance that can change the history of a game, Clara. And Brighton will need it until the last minute."

While City continued to push forward, Brighton showed they wouldn't limit themselves to defending. Little by little, Denis and Felix regained control of the midfield, connecting passes that allowed for quick transitions. In one such move, Denis received the ball from Loki and found Raphael free on the left. A defender tackled the winger before he could finish, although the winger had advanced confidently.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Eddie made his first changes. Hillebrand replaced Miguel, who had given him all on the right wing. Felix, visibly worn out after containing Foden for almost an hour, was replaced by Javier, a midfielder known for his ability to hold the ball up under pressure.

In the stands, the reaction was mixed. Some fans applauded the substitutions, recognizing the need for fresh blood.

"Is Eddie going to put Willian on today?" asked Henry, with a curious tone. "He was decisive against Brentford. His entry could change the game again."

Your journey continues with empire

"It could be a last card, Henry. But Eddie is cautious. He knows he can't expose himself too much against a team as dangerous as City," Clara replied thoughtfully.

Hillebrand came into the game hungry for the ball. On his first appearance, he received a long pass from Lucas and set off on the run. With a short dribble inside, he found space for a cross, but City's defense cleared before Arthur could finish.

Javier, meanwhile, brought stability to the midfield. Although he didn't have the same physical ability as Felix, he excelled at marking and protecting the ball, holding off City's advances and ensuring that Brighton maintained their organization.

In the 25th minute, City gave them another scare. In a quick move, Foden found Doyle inside the area with a pinpoint pass. Doyle spun around Luiz Fernando and shot high, but Daniel Riber threw himself in front of the ball, deflecting it for a corner.

"What courage from the Brighton defender!" exclaimed Clara. "Daniel's been a genuine hero today, Henry."

"And he'll have to keep it up, Clara. City won't stop until they find the equalizer."

From the corner, the ball came in tight, and Anton had to come out of his goal to punch it away. The ball fell to Sancho, who tried a shot from outside the area. To Brighton's relief, the ball sailed over the bar.

Even under pressure, Brighton didn't lose their attacking identity. Denis soon shone again. The midfielder stole the ball from Foden in the center circle and quickly laid it off to Hillebrand on the left. The young winger advanced at speed, dribbled past a defender, and crossed low into the area.

Arthur tried to finish, but was stopped at the last moment.

The ball fell to Lucas on the edge of the box. The player, always confident, took a shot.

This time, his shot was blocked by a City defender, but the rebound fell to Javier. The substitute tried a first-time shot, but the ball came out weak, making it easy for the goalkeeper to save.

With the game approaching the 35th minute, Eddie looked at the bench. He knew that bringing Willian on could change the game - for better or for worse. It was a risk. But, seeing Arthur's wear and tear and Brighton's difficulty in holding the ball up front, he decided.

"Willian, you're coming on," said Eddie, with a firm tone. "I want you to hold the ball up front, use your intelligence. We don't need to rush. Just keep control."

Willian stood up, stretching quickly before putting on his shirt. "You got it, boss. I'll hold it here."n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

The substitution came in the 38th minute. Arthur came off to warm applause from the crowd, while Willian came on.

"It's up to him now," Henry said on the broadcast. "Willian has an important mission in the last minutes. Let's see if he can match it: increase the score and make Brighton safer."

In the remaining minutes, the City stepped up under their pressure. They had a lot of quality when they had the ball at their feet. Crosses, shots from outside the box, quick set pieces - everything was tried to break through Brighton's defense. But Anton, Aiden, Loki, Daniel and Luiz Fernando stood firm, fending off every attempt.

In the 44th minute, a counter-attack by Hillebrand saw Brighton almost add to their lead. The young winger dribbled past two players before finding Willian on the edge of the box. Showing great ball control, the striker's shot unfortunately missed the target. The ball skimmed the crossbar, drawing gasps from the fans.

"Almost the goal of relief!" exclaimed Clara. "Willian came very close, Henry!"

In the last move of the game, City had one last chance from a free-kick on the edge of the box. Foden took it perfectly, but Anton, in a spectacular save, flew into the corner and kept it out. The referee blew the final whistle.

"Game over! Brighton beat Manchester City 2-1!" shouted Clara, almost out of breath. "What a historic performance by this team!"

"They weren't the favorites, but they showed heart, organization and talent," added Henry. "This is a victory that will be remembered for a long time. With this, Brighton remain top of the Premier Youth League table. Can they maintain this performance? We'll see next weekend, because in the middle of the week they play their first game in the UEFA Youth League against Borussia Dortmund!"
