Chapter 55: Tough Decision
Starfort Lycurgos, Rylon Star System, Alaric Star Domain, Ruusor Star Sector, Frontier Star Segment, Chronus Expanse
After Arcturus finished the dealings with the Bashar-General Varathar Medes, he returned back to the Dojo of the Grandmaster Arsit Byrmellir with a heavy feeling in his heart.
Not long after he gave the necessary information to the Bashar-General Varathar Medes, he was told that the Orks were expected to attack in a few days, perhaps in a week at most.
When he returned back, he was rather surprised by the weird atmosphere in the Dojo. Normally, it was tranquil and peaceful here, but this time, the tension and nervousness could be literarily smelled in the air.
Even the elderly Grandmaster looked far more stern and serious than usual when he was sitting cross-legged, meditating in the middle of the courtyard under the pinkish sakura tree or something that at least looked like it.
"Good job with the competition of the mission. Bashar-General Medes already relayed the information to me when you left... he was very satisfied with the results."
The Grandmaster Byrmellir stated with his eyes still closed as he continued meditating, while Arcturus sat next to his master. Both of them were just sitting there without saying anything for a while before Grandmaster Byrmellir stopped his mediation and opened his eyes.
"In a few days, the Orkish WAAAGH! will attack the Alaric Star Domain; most probably, they would be targeting the Rylon Star System directly due to the presence of the Starfort Lycurgos within the Star System. The entire Rylon Star System was the center of the entire Alaric Star Domain, once the Rylon Star System fell, then the entire Alaric Star Domain would also fall and would become defenseless."
Hearing what the Grandmaster stated, Arcturus agreed with him because, obviously, the Rylon Star System, with the presence of the Starfort Lycurgos, was the headquarters of the Imperial Navy within the Alaric Star Domain.
Aside from that, it was also the strategic center for all operations, and practically, it was the best-defended Star System within the entire Alaric Star Domain. It was only rational that the Orkish WAAAGH! would choose this place as their target number one.
"I have to say that this won't be just an ordinary skirmish or battle, but war on the almost apocalyptic scale. So, I am giving you a chance to leave for the central territories of the Imperial Space because when you chose to remain here, you would be undoubtedly drafted into the Imperial Army to fight against the imminent invasion of the Orks and that of the Mind Flayers.
I have already prepared the acceptance to the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy if you choose to go into the Throne World."
Hearing what the Grandmaster Byrmellir said, he was a bit tempted, or rather; he was heavily tempted to leave the entire Alaric Star Domain. He knew that remaining here would mean that he would get drafted into the Imperial Army the moment when an emergency state was announced.
Not to mention, the benefits were not really small.
He would be able to enter the Throne World of the Eternal Empire of the Asurya and enroll in the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy. This would be considered a great prestige for him, to be able to enroll in the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy.
Not to mention this easily with just a simple recommendation from the Grandmaster Byrmellir.
The war between the Imperial Military and Orkish WAAAGH! and the Mind Flayers was something that was far above his Grade. Way far above his Grade, there would be powerhouses that could squash him like a bug.
"I chose to remain here and participate in the war."
Arcturus knew the dangers of remaining at the Alaric Star Domain, because he would be reduced to the lowest pawn in the great game between the giant players.
"Excellent... while this is not something that I really expected, I am rather delighted that you chose to remain here."
In fact, Arsit Byrmellir was very happy that this disciple chose to remain at the Starfort Lycurgos, even facing the imminent danger of the Orkish WAAAGH! and Mind Fleet Leviathan of the Mind Flayers.
Even though the risks were extremely high and there was also a very high possibility that he could die, at the same time, the rewards that he could obtain from remaining at the Starfort Lycurgos would be tremendous.
Just the sole fact that he would be drafted into the Imperial Army for the time being; he would also obtain access to the Military Merit Reward System, where he could obtain the Military Merits and redeem them for the rewards.
The Imperial Military was essentially the richest faction within the Eternal Empire of the Asurya, and Arcturus knew that the Imperial Military was far more capable of financing the cultivation of even the most talented Psionics, Psyker, or even people with the Super-High Risk Primal Psyker Abilities.
On their Military Merit Reward Lists, they would have some really exotic resources and things that could greatly ease his cultivation path by a mile.
Just as they were talking, suddenly Arcturus got notification on his Neural Extranet Terminal Gene Implants and to his surprise it was from the Imperial Military.
[Arcturus Al-Yesod Crawford, Citizen of the Eternal Empire of the Asurya, you have been given the conscription order from the HighCom of the Imperial Military. You are to report to the nearest Office of the Imperial Military within the upcoming 24 Hours.]
It seemed that Grandmaster Arsit Byrmellir had already expected his answer to a certain degree when the message from the Imperial Military in the form of the conscription order came to him so quickly.
"In fact, I was considering enrolling in the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy at a later date. Probably as an external student, the quality of the education given there could give me a lot, especially in terms of military tactics and warfare."
Even though he had Red Queen, who was always by his side, Arcturus knew that something that he learned personally could not be replaced by anything.
"Indeed... getting too dependent on Artificial Intelligence is not really a good thing; nothing could replace something that you have personally learned. Attending the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy is a good choice if you want then after this crisis with the Orks and space squids is over, I can vouch for you to take the special exams to the Academy."
In fact, the elderly Grandmaster greatly supported his efforts to enroll in the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy because it would do him only good. He could see that his disciple learned a lot of common sense, and many things could be learned in the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy.
The purpose of the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy was to generate the elites of the elites, all graduates of the Phoenix King Imperial Military Academy were minimally at the Gamma-Grade Warriors, Psionics or Psykers.
Aside from cultivating the powerhouses, every single graduate was a competent officer, commander, bureaucrat, and administrator, or even leader. All the qualities that he would need in his life were the skills and abilities that Arcturus would need in the future if he wanted to establish a Private Military Company.
"I know."
Arcturus stated calmly, knowing that the Grandmaster was speaking the truth.
"Now that you have been conscripted to the Military Service for the time being, when you go to sign up, you will be subjected to the standard military training or at least some basis of it, before they would decide on a right position for you. Also, I noticed that your Psionic Realm has become much stronger, Mind Flayer's Psion Nuclei perhaps?"
Hearing the question of his master, Arcturus just simply nodded, agreeing with the sentiment.
"Hmm... your foundation is stable enough, so you can try to advance to the Delta-Grade Psyker, hopefully you would be able to reach the Delta-Grade before the Greenskins arrive, though I have some reservations about that."
Reaching the Delta-Grade before the Orkish WAAAGH! and Mind Fleet Leviathan arrived at the Alaric Star Domain would greatly enhance his chances at the survival.
He was rather confident in reaching the Delta-Grade if he had enough resources, and even though he right now had only a few Psion Nuclei from the Mind Flayers, he still had a few hundred thousand Universal Credits that could be used to buy the necessary Psionic Crystals.
Even if he had to pay more for them, he was willing to pay for that.
"Bashar-General Varathar Medes mentioned the Military Rewards for obtaining the information on the Mind Flayers would be given from the HighCom of the Imperial Military."
Arcturus wanted to find out about the rewards from the High Command of the Imperial Military from his master, but unfortunately, much to his dismay, he only received silence as the answer.
"You will see in the future, you have no idea how much of service you done to the Imperium..."
Grandmaster Arsit Byrmellir muttered silently.
