Chapter 94: Eastern Wilderland
Chapter 94: Eastern Wilderland
There were several dangerous places in Eastern Region publicly acknowledged as No-Man Zones or Forbidden Zones.
Those places all had similar characteristics: they were places where spirit beasts occupied the largest amount of territory and where bizarre things happened.
The Blackwood Forest was certainly one of those Forbidden Zones. The forest was the only place where black-colored trees grew.
Another place that was not the least bizarre was Eastern Wilderland.
There was a saying in Eastern Region, "No matter how much the passage of time, there is still no season in Wilderland."
It was a popular saying, the kind of saying that even a three years-old child knew.
If the children misbehave, their parents must have, at least once, threatened to throw them out to Wilderland. And their children will stop crying and act spoiled.
It was indeed a dreadful place, filled with the scent of death. Moreover, rain never fell in there to wash away the smell.
The plain known as Eastern Wilderland was truly bizarre.
No matter what time of the year, Wilderland would stay the same: horrid, barren, and inhospitable.
No one knew the root of its bizarreness.
Some said it was cursed, some said the Wilderness hid some unspeakable secrets or unfathomable treasures that could affect heaven and earth.
Folklore which couldn't be verified said that Wilderland was once a sea, Eastern Sea.
There Dragon King, a king of dragons, resided and presided over Eastern Sea; his children treated the ocean as their playground.
One of his sons, a very prideful one, often acted like a bully and messed around in the human village on a nearby shore.
For a long time, there wasn't anyone who could stand up against the young dragon, and thus the villagers could only swallow their grievances.
But it all changed when the son of the village chief was born, it was the long awaited third son.
His wife had already been pregnant for three years and six months made him very anxious. He believes that her son would be a prominent figure in the future.
Indeed, his third son was indeed a miraculous prodigy with superhuman strength.
Only in a month, his third son had already grown as big as a 4 years old child and what made him more proud, his third son could defeat an adult man with a wave of his hand.
One day, the young dragon came to the village to wreak havoc as he usually did.
Unfortunately for him, it was not the usual day.
In fact, this was the day of his demise.
Due to his arrogant behaviour and wantonly bullied villagers, Village Chief's third son became furious and beated the young dragon.
It might be due to carelessness or arrogance, the young dragon died on the third son's hand.
The villagers, who had been suffering for years, shouted in joy. The third's son became the village hero and the villagers feasted for three days and three nights.
The news of the young dragon prince's death arrived in the Dragon King's ear and instantly enraged!
The villages once again suffered. Rain and storms continued to assault the village.
The villager then begged the third son to demand for justice. The young boy took the responsibility and marched to Dragon Palace deep in the Sea.
Long story short, the Dragon King fights with the third son without care about his own life after the third son massacres all the dragons in the Eastern Sea.
The Dragon King, really a mighty figure and very powerful, the third son could only win by hair breadth by sacrificing his soul.
Before breathed his last breath, the Dragon King cursed the villages so that it would never rain.
Thus, the Dragon Palace collapsed and the sea water evaporated, leaving only a barren place.
Another version of the story was starring an immortal monkey rather than an immortal child.
There was also a legend that once in the Eastern Region there wasn't only one sun but ten!
One mighty archer complained about the hot air and said they only need one sun. The archer that shot another nine suns, which was actually a legendary demon beast, Golden Crows!
The archer didn't expect that the Golden Crows was so vicious that in their death their flesh and bloods merged with the land.
Although there was finally only one sun, the hotness of the dead Golden Crows blazed the entire plain into a wasteland.
There were many more theories about the origin of the Eastern Wilderness.
Some totally made up, some supported by traces of proof and some calculation.
In the end no one knew the truth.
It might be due to its mysterious origin, the Wilderness also known as a land of opportunity by people who seek power and fortune.
Just like the Blackwood forest, despite its known danger, many cultivators roamed the land to hunt spirit beasts or seek for treasures.
Like a sugar to ants, Eastern Wilderness attracted many powers. And where people gathered for benefit, conflict soon will follow.
There were many forces fighting for a slice of pies known as Eastern Wilderness. The most dominant powers were Heaven Swords Sect, Heavenly Blood Sect, and Wilderness Alliance.
Wilderness Alliance was formed by many medium and small sects to contend with Big Sects like Heaven Swords Sect and Heavenly Blood Sect, forming a delicate balance between those forces.
However, due to the conflict between the two behemoths and as the consequence of being the winning side, Heaven Swords Sects gain a lot of momentum to suppress another two powers, to be the strongest forces in Wilderland.
The Wilderland Alliance was a little bit restless and anxious of this development and tried to cooperate with Heavenly Blood Sect but to their disappointment, Heavenly Blood Sects didn't give any response and even called all their disciples to do close door cultivation.
Without Heavenly Blood Sect to compete with Heaven Swords Sect and the passiveness of Heaven Sword Sect, the unity in Wilderland Alliance slowly fractured and internal conflict ensued.
Today Wilderland became more restless.
