System Of The Undead

Chapter 39: The Plot Thickens!

Chapter 39: The Plot Thickens!

Sam had given the people food, they looked intimidating and he was cautious about the more intimidating man.

He kept his distance at all times but the fact that they had no weapons told him that something was off in this location.

Sam watched as they ate, noticing the swastika tattoo on Max and knowing what it represented, something in his body told him that these men were bad news.

"Are you here for the guns too?" John asked and Sam nodded to affirm this.

"They are in that room but there are some undead in there..." John said; they spoke a lot differently with people than they did themselves.

They could tell that Sam was skilled and if they fought him, there was no way they would come out of it unscathed.

Sam wasn't convinced, he suspected that there was a different reason they didn't raid that room because zombies were slow and it would be no different from a street brawl.

The fact that opening the room was their only way of bypassing the zombies outside.

"Why haven't you guys retrieved them? You look more than capable..." Sam threw that in the air and hoped they would catch it.

His eyes were focused on Max because he saw him as a threat as opposed to the lanky John.

"Man, zombies are freaky as shit and we don't even know how many there are out there! We just want to meet up with our friend!" John exclaimed and this told Sam that they weren't alone.

"You aren't alone? You should tell your friend to stay away from here because it is swarming with zombies," Sam offered them a piece of advice but Max knew that this man wasn't a fool.

He could tell by the way he was being watched that Sam wasn't fooled by their act and it was quite clever for John to drop that they weren't alone.

This would halt Sam from taking any drastic action he might have planned but he saw that Sam was going to be a threat. They had to get rid of him as soon as possible.

"Hahaha! She is a smart lady! I just hope we can get back to her safely..." John was engaging Sam pretty well in conversation and Max was just eating.

He acted like it was because of the food that he couldn't speak but he was waiting for an opening with a hand slowly reaching for something strapped to his back.

"It is funny you should say that..." Sam muttered under his breath, prompting Max to halt his planned action.

"I too, am not alone.." Sam said and that was enough to deter Max from completing said actions.

"You aren't?" Max finally spoke and Sam nodded, the tension was high and Sam knew he needed to get that gun because even he might have a problem should things escalate.

This was a new world, survival of the fittest so he knew that these men might have ulterior motives.

They weren't policemen, Sam was certain by the way they dressed and the Nazi tattoo.

These might very well be prisoners and while this wasn't true, it was the most logical assumption considering the situation.

Sam moved to the door to check the doorknob but he didn't drop his guard even for even a second.

The door was jammed from the inside, and Sam twisted and twisted but the door didn't budge.

It was like something was pushing on it from the inside.

"See? It is so fucking difficult!" John reiterated his earlier point and Sam did find it strange.

Max got up to his feet and Sam immediately took a battle-ready stance.

"Hey man, relax! We're trapped here together. We need to help one another to get out of this shit," John said. Sam and Max had a stare down and neither was backing down.

"He is right, we need to work together to escape this mess," Max said as he walked towards Sam with his hand outstretched.

"Truce?" Max asked. Sam was hesitant, he didn't know what these men wanted but he was sure they had no plans of giving him the guns should they get it.

The chances that they would kill him was high and if it was like they had said, there was another one of them.

Sam needed to see what and where these people came from or where they were headed.

He was beginning to consider Clementine's idea of going to base because what exactly was their plan? To wander aimlessly until they die?

Sam reached his hand forward and firmly grabbed Max's hand. He was surprised by how strong this man's hand was and knew instinctively this was the hand of a dangerous man.

"Truce," Sam said sternly.

-

Clementine had managed to draw the zombies away from the building while staying out of sight, they didn't know where she was.

It was a lot easier than she thought it would be, she assumed the dogs would be a threat but they were just as gullible as the rest of the zombies.

They showed no signs of intelligence thus far and this was proving to be a walk in the park.

Clementine was having a field day but she noticed the dogs did behave strangely.

They were making a strange noise that made the zombies gather around them, since they were drawn by sound a dog could easily be the epicenter of a horde.

This meant that the further she drew them away, the more they grew in numbers.

Clementine was worried because she knew what might happen if the dogs perceived her.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" A sound echoed in a nearby house and the dogs took off, these dogs were fast and they charged right at the building.

Banging their head against the door like they were possessed, Clementine knew what that sound was and there was no way she was going to leave them to their own devices.

"Is that a baby!?"
