The First Magic World War

Chapter 50 49. The Blooming of the Empire's First Rose, as Dark as the Night (This Chapter Deserves Monthly Tickets and Applause)

Charles clutched his magic alchemy wand but didn't move; he was hesitating whether to shoot at Lord Leo right now. A thought entered his mind: "Machu Picchu has completed the maze-ification."

He smiled faintly, urged the Bloody Glory, but deliberately suppressed it to Second Order, and then followed out of the fortress. It didn't take long for Lord Leo to pull far ahead of him.

While pretending to run for his life, he kept an eye on the sky and sure enough, saw several black dots hovering.

Charles thought to himself, "Those must be Lord Leo's Blood Bats. With those guiding him, no wonder he runs so fast."

Every time Charles was about to lose the chase, Lord Leo would intentionally stop to wait for him. After running for more than two hours, they heard the dense gunfire resembling popping beans in the distance.

Charles was quite concerned; he lacked Wells' ability to slice bullets with his sword. Even if he pushed Bloody Glory to its limit and it could fend off bullets, it couldn't hold out for long.

That was also the common problem of low-order knights: on their own, they could use their fighting spirit to block a few, maybe a dozen bullets, but in the heat of battle, with stray bullets flying from all directions, that bit of fighting spirit was simply not enough.

Charles thought to himself, "It would be great if I could master the Bloodflame Transformation Art. Transforming into a mass of Blood Flame would greatly reduce physical damage."

"Mastering the Quickness Technique or Spirit Spider Technique would be good too, maybe I could dodge some bullets."

Lord Leo jumped atop a cliff, looked out intently for a while, and then said to Charles, who was panting as he caught up, "The South Serif rebels have failed."

Charles looked down and saw two groups fiercely fighting. As an outsider to war, he couldn't tell how the battle was going and asked, "How can you tell?"

Lord Leo said indifferently, "Archduke Ferdinand's bodyguards are not on the battlefield."

As someone born in the Behemoth Duchy, Charles immediately realized what this meant. Archduke Ferdinand's bodyguards were very famous, rumored to be mid-level transcendent beings. The six of them together could even fight a high-level transcendent. If they were not on the battlefield, it must mean they had retreated with the Archduke.

He said, "Since the mission has failed, there's no value in us staying. We might as well leave."

Lord Leo shook his head, jumped up, and called out, "Keep up!"

Looking helplessly at the few black dots in the sky, Charles knew Lord Leo must have discovered something and had no choice but to follow.

They both moved quickly. Although Charles intentionally slowed down a bit, he was still much faster than an ordinary person. They rounded a bend and heard shouts of encouragement. Leo gestured with his hand and Charles immediately dropped beside a nearby rock, pulled out an antispace sniper rifle from his alchemy wand, and loaded the bullets into the space magazine.

The space magazine of this antispace sniper rifle was not small, but when hiding it, the space magazine had to be transformed into antispace, which would eject the ammunition. A normal person could only carry twenty Magic-Breaking Bombshell Bullets at most.

Charles set up the rifle and pretended to start looking for targets.

Lord Leo gave a slight nod and thought to himself, "Qian Nan is an excellent soldier, but for the sake of this war, he must be sacrificed."

"This is for the future of Byron."

"Every citizen of Byron must be prepared to make sacrifices."

Over ten people were fighting in a mountain hollow, with six or seven bodies lying on the ground.

The smaller group was desperately protecting a man in his fifties, his silver hair somewhat disheveled but his small mustache still neat and clean. He was dressed extravagantly and wore no weapon, squatting beside the body of a woman with a panic-stricken face, wiping away tears in grief, unwilling to leave despite his subordinates' urging.

During the festival celebration, Charles had seen Archduke Ferdinand and recognized the small old man as the ruler of Behemoth Duchy, the target of the South Serif restorers' assassination attempt. The woman lying on the ground was the wife of Duke Ferdinand, who was said to have had a poignant and beautiful love story when they were young. The affection between the Duke and his wife was esteemed in the Fars Empire.

Charles muttered, "To be unwilling to leave his lady even at such a time, Archduke Ferdinand really does love her!"

Lord Leo laughed softly and said, "The South Serif restorers still lack finesse. Qian Nan, you could give them a hand."

"Aim for Ferdinand, send him on his way."

After taking several deep breaths, Charles familiarized himself with the firearm in his hands. He hadn't had much experience with it, and he couldn't afford to make a mistake in what was to come.

Once he confirmed that pulling the trigger would indeed fire the weapon, Charles violently twisted his waist and aimed the Antispace Sniper Rifle in his hands at Lord Leo. Knowing he had only one chance, he didn't hesitate to fire three shots in rapid succession.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

The Magic-Breaking Bombshell Bullet tore through the sky, emitting a mournful wail, flying far into the distance.

Charles watched, completely dumbfounded, as Lord Leo, for some reason, suddenly leaped high into the air.

As Lord Leo suddenly jumped, the three shots Charles had expected to hit all missed their mark, shooting into thin air.

Charles clenched his teeth, ready to draw the Blood Rose and fight to the death, almost immediately saw a swipe of "darkness" engulf Lord Leo.

The person who made the move was Menierman Sumei, his respected senior and The Empire's First Rose, clad in military uniform with a rapier in her hand, seeming to merge with the dark night, blossoming furiously in the air.

Lord Leo, a High-Level Transcendent, sensed the sword strike in advance. As he leaped high into the air and crossed blades with Menierman, he inadvertently dodged Charles's "sneak attack."

He never suspected that Charles was shooting at him, instead thinking this "loyal imperial soldier" was helping him fend off Menierman.

Lord Leo's rapier didn't even have time to transform into a Knight's Spear, and he fiercely clashed with Menierman, teeth to teeth.

With only one exchange of their rapiers, Lord Leo let out a long, agonizing scream; he had been pierced through the chest. The deep wound constantly oozed Blood Energy, and in a hurry, he executed the Blood Bat Technique, transforming into hundreds of little bats, clustering together and fleeing back the way he had come. Before leaving, he didn't forget to cast a "Bloodline Mantra," a Charm Spell, "Qian Nan! Help me stop this crazy woman."

Charles was completely unaffected, for after all, he was a man who had faced the Evil God directly and found resisting a Charm Spell to be trivial. He was about to fire two more shots, aiming at two of the smaller bats, when he heard Menierman's voice resonating beside his ear, "You reacted quickly just now. If you had coordinated with me a little better, we could have stopped this Byron vampire from escaping."

Charles's face flushed with embarrassment; had he acted either a moment sooner or a moment later, he indeed would have had a chance to severely wound Lord Leo.

Menierman had a different angle from Lord Leo, so it was natural for Lord Leo to mistake Charles's actions as an attempt to help him by shooting at Menierman, while Menierman would not make that mistake.

Menierman sheathed her rapier into the scabbard at her waist and said, "Let's go have a look at Archduke Ferdinand!"
